So you can see the difficulty in recruiting a skilled carpenter and joiner to do a very basic woodworking job. Then people turn around and say there's unemployment in Nigeria. The fact is what Nigeria is experiencing is structural unemployment. Over the years, there has not been the needed training in vocational qualifications and apprenticeships. Apart from the Ibo nation to a large extent, apprenticeship training is dead in Nigeria. Youths and school leavers no longer "learn work". Before, they go into keke business, now is skits and content creators.

Enough of tertiary qualifications as there is a glut. So so paper qualifications, not enough skills acquisition.

Unfortunately, are no long in that type of world. Every young man wants to drive a G wagon at 23 years like the footballers they see on social media. You draw their ears, they call you Jew man or mugs. But they want to be like you now. How can you be a big man and be telling them to go do hard work . They forget that hard work is not hard life.
Recently, I gave a young boy 100k and in a few weeks he came back asking for more. When I asked what happened to the money, he said he lost it in betting. I didn’t know whether to cry, advice or curse him. I just blocked his number.

Most of them will hate you for telling them the truth, people don’t like being told the truth.
Personally, the only ones I help are very few that I have observed from a distance.

Please help me with exact specifics on this land Measurement calculations and understanding:

if a land that's supposed to be 60 by 120Ft (that's what you were told you are buying) is now made less by 100 in the length, what amount should be added in the balance of the width to make up for the 20 feet less in the Length?
70 by 100? 80 by 100?
How much exactly?

Maybe you have to go by the area in square ft. Since the original measurement was 60 x 120 therefore the intended area would be 7200sft.
Now the new length is 100ft
Divide 7200/ 100 and you have the new width.
So your new width is 72 ft.
As we say in maths, everything being equal. In my opinion, you are on advantage here because a wider lot is often preferred.

Thanks for your replying.

So it's an extra of 12ft that will be added there, to the width?
72 by 100 ft for the full plot to still be full plot?

60 x 120ft is equal to 72 x 100ft

However , during construction, if the set back is say 20 ft.
On 60 x 120 you will lose 20 x 60 = 120sft
While on 72 x 100 you will lose 20 x 72 = 144sft of living area.

Okay. Thank You.
We can leave the talks on Setbacks during construction part and all... all that is small.

Just wanted to know exact specifics and what ought to be gotten. Couldn't figure out a way to accurately get that or calculate it.

This reminds me of a roofing problem I had for the better part of 6 years we got about 8 different carpenters to repair it unsuccessfully. We finally cracked it this year. A lot of them don’t trouble shoot properly and/or will not admit their area of specialisation and will take on work they can’t do. Some of them are more furniture carpenter but will say they can do roofing carpentry or construction carpentry which require a different skill set.

Some of them can’t do height and will try to tell you they will repair leak by putting flashband through the ceiling ie under the roof when this is a senseless no no and it should be done on top.

The main way to effectively deal with leakages is to have one on top and another through the ceiling who will spot the leakage and the one on top will use flashband to repair the holes.

The more one ventures into the building trade the more one gets knowledgeable about getting the right artisan for the job.

They need to modernise the skill acquisition process and apprenticeship programs and I know Lagos state is doing this cos the current system is akin to slavery

The government needs to set up post secondary technical schools of 2 years followed by 1 year stipend paid apprenticeship.

This way even graduates can participate and become owners of business instead of looking for employment.

Even after learning trades they don’t excel at it by practicing at international standards.

This is what I'm saying. It should not be difficult to find the right trades person to fix a leaking roof and do it properly and professionally and not all this "try and error" approach. The truth is they are not trained in the profession they profess, or half baked.
