There are many factors to consider. Such as inflation.

I'm looking at investments that take long to mature, like 5-10 years before collecting the profits. The problem is, I don't know if the inflation rate in Nigeria will keep getting worse. If the inflation rate continues at the current trajectory I'm not sure the investment will be worth it..

You already have your answer in this post. The rate of inflation will have to be considered when making any investment in Nigeria

If you invest 1000 in 2022 and you have 3000 today, Do you think its worth it?

Personally I think investing in Nigerian company stocks is a loss making venture . Even when the economy was still better , I see buying Nigerian stock as you just giving them your funds to run their business while their management team do as they like with your money .

I’ve seen management team of big PLC’s live the best lives , ride the best cars , go on all expenses paid “business trips” all over the world , pay themselves the best salaries and then pay paltry dividends to the so called “shareholders” who are supposed to be the owners of the business .

I see this through the lens of my old man who is a very strong believer in investing in shares . I’ve been to enough AGM’s to see that the so called management team of these PLC’s don’t really regard the opinion of the shareholders like that sef. All these was when the economy was in better shape and these companies were making profit.

The companies in the attached are companies that always keep my old man glued to business news on TV while we were growing up . He keeps monitoring their performance in the stock market through business and will be muttering to himself words like “ If I see small money now I will buy more Nigerian Breweries stock ….. I should buy Nestle stock by next year Insha Allah “ …etc

Now those companies made losses in 2023 and I’m not even sure they won’t do the same for 2024 . Imagine what the fate of shareholders who are hoping for dividend and share bonus will be like . Shebi it is even when they make profit they will declare dividend for shareholders .

While GTB was selling shares few months back , one of their relationship managers who came to our office was trying to preach to me about what they are selling. grin . I just told her to save her breath and go hustle another person cos I will rather eat my money than give them to run their business in the name of “investing “ . Till date when she comes around , she still looks at me with one kind evil eye 😈

You are even talking about all things being equal but you know in Nigeria you have to factor in inflation and devaluation. For example my Pension when I was leaving Nigeria was around 1.3m at a time when Naira was around N120 to a $. When I first reach US and things were tough. I thought about taking an early withdrawal but the Devil spoke to me and convinced me that my 1.3m might become something Yuuugee in future. I endured Sapa and kept the money there. The last time I checked my account almost a decade ago it was around 2M and that time Naira was already like 350

Now Naira is like 1600. I don even forget my password or login and I don dash whoever the money manager is the entire money

If no be for Devil I for don liquidate that thing before the thing pafuka

You have successfully contributed to the betterment of the country by leaving the pension fund for us. I’m sure Buhari would’ve borrowed it in his first term grin

But on a serious note, I always wonder what will happen to all the pension funds in the RSA accounts of thousands of Nigerians who have japa and didn’t look back.

For example my former colleague ; his parents have 3 kids . His two brothers japa before him leaving their pension funds behind . My former colleague japa with his wife who worked in an oil company and both of them also left their pension funds behind in their RSA account cos they obviously can’t access it yet in their 30’s.

I’m sure they don’t even care about the pensions now sef, but how can government or PFA hold on to the funds just like that ?
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Lekkkys(m): 9:21pm On Oct 24
You're right, those that risked it for the last 2 months, would have been getting the so-called free money (and it could even be as high as 300$ -600$ ( though they have to work for it too.
Its just that by that time they would have made their initial capital even the platform promise to refund the initial capital after 365days of working with them.

Imagine 500$ pr more being deposited into ur bybit, binance or any wallet you choose.

Just look at any stock, what was it trading at in 2004(Exchange rate N100) and now 20yrs later if you are not seeing 16times in value you have become poorer. Before you begin talk of Time value of money $100 in US in 2004 is not $100 today

Temporalhansel, If you have spare money, Its better to open a Dollar denominated account and just park it there, If you can trade US stocks just buy the S&P index and park it there. I expect that will grow with the US economy. If you still want to do stock market, you can buy one of the old reliable US Tech stocks and just lookaway. A good one might be Apple or Microsoft

Try dey select which of their propaganda you go share...

Use akonuche follow these people.
After this war ends, they'll disavow and deny many of the things they're boasting about right now.
They could simply pin it all on Netanyahu and his gang.
Josh Shapiro, current Governor of Pennsylvania volunteered with the IDF. He was proud of it, even wrote that he was opposed to Two State Solution. Today, because he is a swing state governor and 2028 hopeful, he is pro Two State Solution and avidly anti-Netanyahu.

All of the US excesses in Iraq and Afghanistan were pinned on GW Bush and his gang.
Dem France and Spain that stayed out of it used their opposition to boost their geopolitical credibility.
History does not repeat, but it does rhyme.

In addition to this, many of the company shares that they were selling those days. I no even know if those companies exist now. Especially during the Soludo consolidation of 2003-2005, many banks went to the market to raise capital. Some of those banks are not even in existence anymore

My old man bought Daar communications shares when it was listed on NSE. Few years down the line , he always cussed Dokpesi under his breath for running them shareholders streets .

You see that ur first paragraph ehn, same thing will happen to banks with this upcoming consolidation exercise . Almost all the banks sold shares and people were being sweet talk to part with their hard earned money to “buy a part of the bank “ by virtue of buying their shares .

All the banks are in a race to meet up with the new capital requirements as released by CBN but we all know that not all the banks will survive the consolidation exercise . Some of these banks that raised funds will die natural death in the coming years while some will be acquired by bigger banks .

It has happened before . The banks who die natural death like Heritage bank did recently , their shareholders will get nothing for their troubles while those who will get acquired; some of the shares value will drop . Some people who have 10,000 units of shares will see it drop to 4,500 right before their eyes .

I’ve seen all sorts of magic with Nigerian owned businesses listed on NSE. We pay lip service to corporate governance in this country yet shareholders keep losing their fortune through holding shares in badly managed companies
