Just imagine states were allowed to collect and control their VAT

Apart from Anambra, which is just about N700m higher, Ekiti has more VAT revenue than all the states in the SE

is like if don't compare IGR generated by southeast with that of southwest, you don't have peace with your poverty.

Ebonyi Abakaliki generated more VAT than Enugu, Abia, Imo and 13 other states shocked

Ebonyi Abakaliki is not the poorest state in South East truly.

Very good . Now tell the amala of yoruba people eyes to divide the country since Ekiti vat alone can power the whole of Europe and south east asia combined. Let us yoruba muslims now go and govern ourselves. This is the right time. We can't continue to beg for unity despite having high IGR without toilet facilities

I don't understand how someone will be a tapeworm in your intestine yet you will oppose the idea of taking drugs that will take the tapeworm away. South east needs to go so that Oshogbo will become the new Japan. You already have a good headstart with big IGR

VAT is a consumption tax. How Kano which has almost same population with Lagos will have consumption tax of about one-tenth that of Lagos is a mystery. What is obvious is that VAT collection is a formal system and the less informal the system of a state is, the less VAT that is collected therein.
Another issue is if you say VAT should be zero on agricultural products but should be paid on processed foods, then states that have massive agric output will be shortchanged while those who produce using agric inputs will have higher VAT. This idea coming from a govt that has removed subsidy from fertilisers and has been the poorest at offering support to farmers both crops and animals since 1999 is tardy.

I love as south east is taking last in anything that has to do with tax or revenue wink

We can't be paying from our sweat then share over half of it with the remaining states and then these government thieves in power will be looting the remaining undecided

Mbanu, we igbos have more sense than that cool let others keep rushing to pay big big tax from their meagre incomes and let the igbos keep their own salaries intact

If compare this to 2023 vat , you will cry and still wonder why Tinubu hasn't began to retrace his steps and policies even as IMF has adviced him to after encouraging him initially to take such terrible decisions. 9ja people don lean finish , orobo self don scarce to the extent of young persons taken injection and drugs to make themselves look big and well fed while reverse is the case . Abeg make Yoruba elders beg Tinubu for us

What did you expect when all the important companies in Nigeria have their head offices in Lagos, and pay VAT there, instead of their production and consumption bases?

Just imagine oil companies exploring, drilling and doing oil transactions in Akwa Ibom State, but go to Lagos state to pay VAT just because their head offices are in Lagos. It has always being a lopsided arrangement to cheat the minority.

At the end, you would hear some illiterates telling people from other regions to leave Lagos, and go back to their states not knowing that majority of the development in Lagos came from those states.

Any state can suck their citizens dry in the name of collecting VAT and revenue, but the important factor is what that VAT is being used for. What's the essence of posting huge VAT while your GDP and GDP/capita is very poor.



And for those gallivanting on this thread, VAT and IGR have never been statistics for measuring development. GDP and GDP per capita are, so stop disgracing yourselves
