There was no judgement yesterday. The trial has not even started so what judgement are you talking about?

Dele charged to court yesterday and he pleaded not guilty. Since it’s a criminal case, he was remanded in prison just like any other person charged to court for a criminal offense. The court will sit again on 10th December to hear his written bail application as the oral request was rejected. So, what’s the problem in all these?

Defamation is not a case to be settled in court

Chief Afe Babalola was defamed unnecessary by Dele Farotimi. Since he’s still very much alive, it’s better fit his reputation to fight against the lies. You have no reputation to protect so you can’t understand why someone like Afe Babalola really needs to settle this issue legally once and for all.

The case has been charged to court and we should allow justice run its course. Dele either provides evidence to support his allegations or be sent to prison and made to pay huge fines. Freedom of speech is not absolute, it comes with responsibilities. If you can’t prove, don’t allege.

You dont realise that Afebabalola the owner of one of Nigerias most powerful law firms could have just sued Mr Dele and claimed restitution and damages instead of this show of shame that has done more damage to the reputation he so wants to protect. This was a bad route

The SAN could have done the following;

Sued Dele for Libel, slander and defamation

Get injunction stopping all publishing houses to withdraw the book from circulation pending the outcome of the litigation.

Doing this he will get justice and keep his reputation intact especially at such twilight of his his existence

Is it today Dele has been writing rubbish about others?

Someone must teach him a bitter lessons as he refused to separate emotions from his own journalism
Your own is to talk like a robot without thinking...

Which lesson are you teaching that should detract from following due process and best practices?

I am not sure you know Dele Farotimi very well...

The SAN has succeeded in giving an uninhibited ventilation to the matter of judicial corruption in Nigeria...Where the matter might lead to will be beyond what he could have fathomed...

He will triumph eventually...

while Chief Afe Babalola is busy flexing muscle on people he can intimidate with arrest, the book is busy selling fast. That thing he doesn't want us to hear, we will read it in Uncle Dele's book.

Not bad. Dele Farotimi will either prove his allegations or spend a long time in jail. At 95, Afe Babalola has nothing to lose again.

You are not in a position to tell Afe Babalola how to react to the criminal defamation of his person. If Dele had defamed Ben Nwabueze or Chukwudifu Oputa, I can bet you all won’t be here spewing rubbish.

Neither Nwabueze nor Oputa could have condescended to the level of using olopa to harass a civil rights lawyer when they could have known what to do...

As they say, class is permanent...

The case is already in the court of Law.
Let the social media trial stop.
Let the Law take it's cause.
All I wish is for the transparency and uprightness of the Judiciary.

How Dele Farotimi defamed me, By Afe Babalola

The petition by Aare Babalola, dated November 9, 2024, to the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State explicates the gravamen of his complaints to the police and the pedestal of his action against Farotimi.

Asterisked are defamatory portions in Dele Farotimi’s foreword in his book that stirred the hornets’ nest

it is not enough to lock him up in jail. that is abuse of power

The whole abduction abi arrest, journey from Lagos to Ekiti, detention, court sitting, etc. happened in less than 72hrs. That's all I need to know about the system.

When you’re charged for a criminal offense, you will be remanded in prison pending your bail application if it is a bailable offense. Basic legal procedure.

Ignorance is a serious disease.

Libel is not a criminal offense, but a civil one!

While this issue is in the purview of lawyers to debate the justifications for imprisonment. I would like to believe that’s not the punishment for libel.

You sue the individual, serve him and meet him in court. How do you imprison a person that has not been found guilty by a competent court of law?

Do we need more proof about the influence Mr Afe wields over the police or legal system?

It is a process. He was reported to the police and police have to do their job/investigation first before the next step which is charging him to court. Even the police can still approach the court to obtain a legal order to keep him in custody beyond the number of days specified by law.
But I just I don't understand why some of you always speaking like you don't know this procedure which of course you do.

But this Dele of a man is senseless! Look at how he accused many lawyers and judges of being corrupt and criminals without any proof just because his lost a case for his client! He deserves nothing less than seven years behind bars

Very sad indeed cry

Libel is a civil offense ,not criminal. Imprisonment of Farotimi is a further proof of corruption in the system.

Lol. It is a good route actually. Police will investigate him before charging him to court since it is a petition to the police against the foulish man. It will teach people like him lessons that you just don't write a book just because you can and start labelling people criminals just because your law firm lost a case against them.
BTW: did I hear you say restitution? Laughing
