Good day, fellas. I have come to realize that those who do eye service or are hypocritical with their jobs are more regarded than those who sincerely or faithful do their jobs. i.e They easily get promoted or rewarded.

Not really true. A smart employer will even know if you’re doing eye service and just watch you fool yourself

Just in case you don’t know, they can sense if you’re an ass kisser

It's an aged long practice, particularly in the military and paramilitary systems.

Eye service is allowed but malingering is not.

Simply go work in a place where eye service is not rewarded.

Don't just work, let it be seen, let it be known that you are working. You call it eye service, I call it marketing your abilities.

I'm not tribalistic, but trust me. Igbo people are more prone to eye service in workplace than any other counterpart I've ever worked with.
On the contrary, where I work it is a Hausa guy who is the greatest asslicker. This dude portrays himself to be a saint who is incapable of errors. I saw through him some few days after I joined the company.

It's frustrating and demotivating when you feel that your hard work and dedication are overlooked, while others who may not be as sincere or faithful in their job responsibilities seem to get ahead.

This phenomenon is often referred to as the "politics of the workplace" or "office politics." It's a reality that many professionals face, where success is not solely determined by merit, but also by one's ability to navigate the social dynamics of the workplace.

Here are some possible reasons why this might be happening:

1. *Visibility: Those who engage in eye service or hypocrisy may be more visible to their superiors or influential colleagues, which can lead to more opportunities for advancement.
2. *Networking: Building relationships with the right people can be crucial for career advancement. Those who are skilled at building relationships and networking may be more likely to get promoted or rewarded.
3. *Perception: Unfortunately, perception can be reality in the workplace. If someone is perceived as being more competent or capable, they may be more likely to get ahead, even if they're not actually doing a better job.
4. *Lack of accountability: In some organizations, there may be a lack of accountability, which can allow individuals to get away with doing the minimum while still appearing to be productive.

It's essential to remember that you can't control how others behave or how they're perceived. What you can control is how you react to the situation and how you choose to approach your own career development.

Here are some suggestions:

1. *Focus on your work: Continue to do your job to the best of your ability, and focus on delivering high-quality results.
2. *Build your skills: Invest in your own professional development by taking courses, attending workshops, or seeking out mentorship opportunities.
3. *Network authentically: Build relationships with your colleagues and superiors based on mutual respect and trust. Don't try to fake it or be someone you're not.
4. *Seek feedback: Ask for feedback from your superiors or colleagues to understand areas where you can improve and to get a sense of how you're perceived in the organization.
5. *Consider a new opportunity: If you feel that your hard work and dedication are consistently being overlooked, it may be time to explore new job opportunities where your skills and work ethic are valued.

Eye service is not really a tribal thing (for if it were, I would have said it). It's really about the fuc*ed up psychology of a typical African Nigerian. Our traditional musicians (mostly), understand this, that's why you see them eulogizing the big names in their society..

However, there's a tiny line between eye service and loyalty/honour/respect for a higher authority. But bitter fellow colleagues always confuse both...

Sometime, appearance shows the manners, nobody see your heart, they only judge you by what you do in their present.

As an employer, you don't expect me to ignore someone who do well in my present and promote you that don't but do so behind my back. How do you want me to know? You just have to be good in both my present and my absent.

Sorry bro... It's very common in yoruba led work environment.... Yoruba managers and bosses love those who worship the ground they step on...they love asslickers so much and they reward them... It's evident in their larger society... that's how they worship their useless and corrupt political leaders.

If you have never experienced it just go out and do basic research

Actually I will like to ask which organisation have you worked

I can relate to what you wrote up there, the fault was entirely yours and not anyone else.

Some of you that claim to be real or professional in work places lacks manners and interpersonal relationships. While you try to be real/professional, you have to take your colleagues along and be lenient where necessary. If you notice someone want your position by being too nice to the Director, all you need to do is to be nice to the same director too and carry out your duties diligently.

But because of your absorbed mentality of "they are from the same tribe" you keep finding a fault in everything they do.
