I've been to a lot of countries, and I must say that the cost of living in Switzerland is really high. The average price of a bottle of water here is $5. When I arrived last week, I spent 55 dollars on a pack of bottled water, which didn't even last for a week. I've been here for 9 days now, and I must say that my bank account is really feeling the heat. Everything here is damn expensive. Switzerland is for the rich abeg. Nothing anybody wan tell me. Today, when I went shopping for groceries, I thought I was going to spend not more than 80 dollars, but to my utmost surprise, I ended up spending over 200 dollars on little items. When I was in Norway, Australia and Netherlands, I thought that the cost of living was high (these countries are quite expensive to live in), but this is just on another level. I'm leaving here on Saturday abeg, before my account starts wailing.

Guys, let me use this medium to drop a piece of advice. If anyone is advising you to leave Nigeria, show gratitude to that person, because he/she wants the best for you. I've been touring for 6 months now, and I must confess that Nigeria is a sh*thole. This is actually an understatement. If there was a worse word to use to attribute Nigeria, I'd have used it. Once I'm done with my travels, I'm permanently relocating to a European country. I'm just using this medium to gather my facts first, before making a final decision.

I'm an American citizen by birth, but I've not lived there for 2 straight years; I've been on and off. America is kinda cool, but I've no interest in living there permanently. UK and Canada are for introverted people, in my own opinion. Right now, I'm thinking of maybe Sweden or Germany for permanent relocation. I was forced to learn Deutsch, because I studied in Germany from 2016-2022; before relocating back to Nigeria, to handle my Dad's businesses. I learn languages fast, but it took me 6 months to almost perfectly learn Deutsch language. I now speak English, French, Spanish, Deutsch, Latin, and a little bit of Hebrew. I'll be posting more with time. Merry Christmas in advance guys.

Don't worry, when they show you shege promax you will be forced to remember you are Nigerian and can never change that black skin. There are people who are far more travelled than you, but even them have enough EQ to not be this condescending towards their country of origin. You and Kemi are clearly in the same whatsapp group, I wonder what you are doing on a Nigerian forum in that case.

Another raving loon.

You better relocate to North Korea or China if you want people not to express their disdain for the criminality called Nigeria. Even in "developed" countries, their citizens denigrate the country and you expect a hellish jungle like Nigeria to not be disparaged by its citizens who have had their future stolen by successive governments and crooks at all levels, with the active connivance of the judiciary and legislature.

The hypocrisy and nauseating thing about folks like you is that you claim to love Nigeria but continue to vote inept criminals as president, in the name of spiting Igbos.

People will say how they feel about a country that does not care one bit about its citizens and there's nothing you and the criminals in power will do.

cheesy
Ordinary electricity we can't fix for how many years now and we have the resources to do it. And you expect Nigeria to be better. Just allow them to continue decieving themselves.

The best Way is for all Nigerians to look for a way to make this country better, if all Nigerians follows this your mindset it means over 200M million Nigerians will have to leave this space and move to abroad. That can never happen because over 80 percent can't even afford to buy air ticket to Ghana.

Since life has been fair to you, all you've to do now is to pray for Nigeria.

Almost every nation in the world is experiencing some level of inflation. Nigeria's economy is still better than that of Argentina and many other countries.

I understand that things may be tougher than it was in the country but that is no reason for anyone to call Nigeria a shithole. What will you then call South Sudan, Syria, Somalia, Afghanistan, Yemen, or Libya?

Cold fact is us Nigerians are not ready for change because of their corrupt mindset. The day I realized just now undisciplined we are was when, some years back I started using BET buses to commute to work. When we are on the queue, people kept on looking for ways and means to jump the line , so half the time we spent there, people quarreled nonstop. To even maintain the line was a problem because people were always trying to disrupt the line.

It was that period I realized we have a big problem in this country. These same people will carry this mindset of cutting corners into every sector of the economy and call it "smartness", and that's why things are just not working because us Nigerians work actively to sabotage the system for our own selfish benefits. The people in authority are too focused on primitive accumulation of wealth to the detriment of development.

We can't be like Switzerland because we lack the discipline, foresight and selflessness to make things work as they should.
What if the "corrupt mindset" is not the cause but an effect of something more portentous?

I have been opportune to and I understand we have a long way to go but I won't still cast aspersions on my country of birth. It doesn't make me any better nor make the country any better. If anything, it portrays us in very bad light. You will rarely hear the Indians or Argentines saying shit about their country. Yet thet have their own challenges. Anyone who wants to migrate can do so without talking down on the country of birth.

Again there is absolutely no reason for the poster to degrade Nigeria. He isn't even Nigeria by birth

The irony is the same Nigeria yall are degrading is a fertile land of opportunity for others. Isn't it ironic that the Chinese Indians and Lebanese have all taken over manufacturing in Nigeria? What magic wand do they have that we don't ?

Someone I know sold his flourishing packaging business to a Lebanese before Covid and relocated. The Lebanese man has grown the business 5 fold and even exports to 3 other west African countries while my friend is struggling to do three jobs to pay rent.

During his free time you will find him on social media cursing out the government.

Sure, CH is very expensive but pay is good too.

Apart from skiing I can't remember anything exciting about Switzerland. Social life is quite dull. Their version of Deutsch is even less appealing than Austrian version. I thought Bavarian was terrible compared to Hochdeutsch but CH one takes the biscuit.

Your colourful description of Nigeria is understandable but how have we the 35 to 60 years bracket done better as citizens than our father's generation?

It's easy to point fingers but it takes a village to raise a child. It also takes a lot of people to make a country colourful as you described.

The funny thing is that even you that is complaining of the corrupt nature of Nigerians, you are guilty of it too.

Ishilove, were you not corrupt when given small power as a supermod on Nairaland? Banning your enemies and leaving friends to commit atrocities? Were you not trolling and also pushing articles to the front page on a biased level?

Nigeria is a young country. Even the USA and UK were corrupt when they were young. Slavery, illegal sales of alcohol, colonialism, piracy, coups etc, were all present during their early days as countries.

Nigeria also does not have a strong set of laws and judiciary that will punish corruption. This is why things are the way they are.

Nigeria has not had a revolution. But many Western countries have had them. France, USA etc.

Every human, black or white can be good or corrupt. We need to look at the environment and its circumstances that influence people to either side of the coin.

My own two cents

This is true because you have properties going for hundreds of millions of naira in places with no standard drainage systems, no piped water, mosquitoes everywhere and untarred roads. Living in a developed world has made me realise most of what we term "luxuries" aren't luxurious in the real sense of it. The other day on TwitterNG, I saw a Telsa Cybertrunk being driven on untarred roads in Ibadan. That is a "luxurious lifestyle". grin grin

I have yet to even see it all, but I strongly doubt anything "luxurious" in Nigeria would move me again.

This is a common complaint from non-Europeans including Americans. I don't know about Canadians, but the cultural behaviour of the Swiss differs significantly from other people. Just as humans as different, so are their social practices. So, it is not surprising you found Switzerland to be boring. Mainland Chinese find Singapore (full of Chinese) to be dull as well but prefer Thailand and Malaysia.

Those attacking the op should stop cos he has the right to criticize Nigeria. Nigeria deserve any type of bashing it gets, especially the current Nigeria under Tinubu.

I know those attacking the op for criticizing Nigeria are APC míscreants and Tinubu's blind, senseless supporters forming patriotism on an empty stomach, yeye people. It is what it is, Nigeria is not trying when it comes to growth and development of the nation and it's citizens. Thank you zackmann for telling it as it is, those who don't like it can go hug a transformer.

But my honest advice to young Nigerians that wish to become financially successful through Japa is to keep their eyes on USA.

USA is the number one country that offer great opportunities to make money fast as a Nigerian migrant or immigrant ready to study and work.

UK is a waste of time or you can just use UK as a stepping stone to migrating to a better country.

Switzerland is fine as in fine but you can hardly make money as a Nigerian immigrant there. You will make enough money to live fine in Swiss but the Nigerian version of making enough money to invest back home with ease, you cannot make such in Switzerland when compared to America. You don't need fine country as a Nigerian, you need a country that offer you best legitimate money making opportunities.

Check most Nigerians living in Europe, they are not always that financially buoyant to have plenty to invest back home, so always have this at the back of your mind before deciding where to Japa to. You can make a list of Nigerians you know in the country you wish to migrate to and check how they are faring.

Europe is just there, it will give you the opportunity to make a good living and train your children but to have enough to invest back in Nigeria, look beyond Europe, Canada and UK honestly unless you are ready to do dirty illegitimate things.

America remains their Papa when it comes to money making opportunities, don't let anybody deceive you, Yankee is their king.

Forget about infrastructural beauty, you don't need it, you need enough Owo, ego, kudi to live fine and invest back in Nigeria for your Naija retirement. Snow is not a good thing.

November to April are the worst months to travel to abroad for vacation. Snow is not nice don't let anybody deceive you with fine pictures. Rich whites do relocate to hotter climate cities during these months for their own vacation.

Best time to do vacation abroad is summer not winter season.

Snow is the only thing I hate about abroad. Snow and natural disasters are the only things that spoilt abroad but if you love extreme cold then you don't have a problem but for me, I hate snow and I always wonder why Nigerians abroad celebrate that horrible snow of a thing.

Nigeria is only blessed with the best weather and climate. If not for high insecurity and corruption that Nigeria is known for, the rest of the world would have been trooping into Nigeria during this period to enjoy our amazing weather but our insecurity, corruption and horrible infrastructure kept tourists away angry

Tinubu Yoruba supporters and fake patriots of Nigeria please allow Nigerians criticize Nigeria that your god Tinubu have destroyed beyond measures. If you don't want Nigerians to talk negative about Nigeria, then tell Tinubu and his looting family to stop their criminality, tribalism and focus on doing the right things that will make Nigeria a better nation undecided
