Nairaland and its owner, Seun, have consistently allowed individuals to describe this country with derogatory names without facing any repercussions. Moderators even promote such threads to the front page. If Nairaland fails to address this issue, it is time for the Nigerian government to step in, and everyone involved will have to face the consequences. Thank God for the Internet, else certain people would have lied to many young people about the true state of things. So because people criticise Nigeria, let the govt become a North Korean version overnight? Sha, expect worse when Gen-Z and Gen Alpha become frequent users of the Internet. 8 Likes 1 Share |

You are also part of tbe problem. I don't even live in Nigeria but I won't degrade my country of birth.
Again there is absolutely no reason for the poster to degrade Nigeria. He isn't even Nigeria by birth
The irony is the same Nigeria yall are degrading is a fertile land of opportunity for others. Isn't it ironic that the Chinese Indians and Lebanese have all taken over manufacturing in Nigeria? What magic wand do they have that we don't ?
Someone I know sold his flourishing packaging business to a Lebanese before Covid and relocated. The Lebanese man has grown the business 5 fold and even exports to 3 other west African countries while my friend is struggling to do three jobs to pay rent.
During his free time you will find him on social media cursing out the government.
God bless Nigeria. Ask the people who don’t speak poorly of their country, and you’ll find a sense of patriotism instilled in them by the trust they have in their government. This trust stems from the government fulfilling its civic duties to its citizens. Now, let me ask you: what civic duty has your government fulfilled for you as a citizen? You provide your own water, electricity, and security. You have to send your children to private schools because public education is inadequate. There is no functional healthcare system. As a Nigerian, you are poorer today than you were 10 years ago. So, what exactly has your government done for you to earn your loyalty or patriotism? This is the difference between why citizens of countries like China or Lebanon don’t criticize their governments—they benefit from at least one or all of these basic services. So, tell me, why should I stay silent and not speak out? Evil thrives when good people do nothing. Was it not because Kemi spoke up that the police issued a memo instructing officers not to arrest people unnecessarily during this period? If you think staying silent is doing your country justice, you’re mistaken. In fact, silence in the face of injustice makes you an enemy of your nation’s development. 1 Like 1 Share |

zackmann: I've been to a lot of countries, and I must say that the cost of living in Switzerland is really high. The average price of a bottle of water here is $5. When I arrived last week, I spent 55 dollars on a pack of bottled water, which didn't even last for a week. I've been here for 9 days now, and I must say that my bank account is really feeling the heat. Everything here is damn expensive. Switzerland is for the rich abeg. Nothing anybody wan tell me. Today, when I went shopping for groceries, I thought I was going to spend not more than 80 dollars, but to my utmost surprise, I ended up spending over 200 dollars on little items. When I was in Norway, Australia and Netherlands, I thought that the cost of living was high (these countries are quite expensive to live in), but this is just on another level. I'm leaving here on Saturday abeg, before my account starts wailing.
Guys, let me use this medium to drop a piece of advice. If anyone is advising you to leave Nigeria, show gratitude to that person, because he/she wants the best for you. I've been touring for 6 months now, and I must confess that Nigeria is a sh*thole. This is actually an understatement. If there was a worse word to use to attribute Nigeria, I'd have used it. Once I'm done with my travels, I'm permanently relocating to a European country. I'm just using this medium to gather my facts first, before making a final decision.
I'm an American citizen by birth, but I've not lived there for 2 straight years; I've been on and off. America is kinda cool, but I've no interest in living there permanently. UK and Canada are for introverted people, in my own opinion. Right now, I'm thinking of maybe Sweden or Germany for permanent relocation. I was forced to learn Deutsch, because I studied in Germany from 2016-2022; before relocating back to Nigeria, to handle my Dad's businesses. I learn languages fast, but it took me 6 months to almost perfectly learn Deutsch language. I now speak English, French, Spanish, Deutsch, Latin, and a little bit of Hebrew. I'll be posting more with time. Merry Christmas in advance guys.
