Lady Shares How a Beans Seller Advised Her to Use Chemicals to Preserve Beans. A Nigerian lady has raised health concerns after a conversation with a beans seller who suggested using certain chemicals to preserve beans. She explained that she had complained to the seller about finding weevils in the beans she had previously purchased from another vendor. In response, the seller quickly brought out a chemical, claiming it was what they used to keep their beans looking fresh and free of weevils until they were completely sold. The lady noted that the chemical had an overpoweringly harsh smell, which she found unbearable. She expressed her fears about how Nigerians might unknowingly be consuming foods laced with harmful chemicals, potentially contributing to the rise in health issues across the country. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFlG2XOfoS0?si=l71cIV8_PRft7atA 4 Likes 3 Shares

Everything in Nigeria wants to KILL you! You're thirsty, they'd sell you bottled DYSENTRY as water. Feeling funky and in a mood to celebrate, they'd sell you FAKE wine made with GUTTER water. Feeling hungry, they'd sell you fish preserved with FORMALDEHYDE and beans dripping with strange CHEMICALS. After all these and you fall sick, they'd still meet you at the pharmacy with FAKE drugs. Nigerians are being slowly SLAUGHTERED with every sip of water or wine. NOTHING is safe! NAFDAC and SON need to do more. It's NOT enough to destroy the fake products, EFCC also needs to prosecute the "businessmen" bankrolling these operations. 165 Likes 16 Shares |

Honestly, the thought of the various heinous activities called business in Nigeria by some heartless Nigerians is worrisome. From the man who just wants to make money by selling adulterated or dirty water, to the woman picking up empty, dirty plastics to sell kunu and zobo, and the woman mixing just anything with palm oil (red oil), not minding its harmfulness but only interested in making a profit, to another woman selling ponmo rinsed with chemicals to make it rise and thicken so she can make more profit. Or is it the man spraying chemicals on beans and dry fish to preserve them from spoiling before they are sold? Even your popular eateries are not free from this—they preserve their cooked foods with chemicals so they don’t get spoilt if not sold on time. One fruit seller was once caught rinsing his fresh fruits with urine. When confronted, he confessed that they do this just to preserve their cucumbers and other fruits from spoiling. There are too many examples to mention. Most of these businesses are owned by the rich and powerful. They just don’t care what happens—only profits matter to them. Only God knows the number of people who have died from food poisoning in this country. May God help us all. Cc: Nlfpmod 30 Likes 3 Shares |

When I was a kid we used to call those things "beans housefly." I hate eating beans because of those irritating insects but now I'm older, I appreciate the food we grew up with more. We were eating natural organic food back then without even realizing it. Now there are so many fake genetically modified food stuff that look 3X bigger than they used to be and many agric products germinate way too fast now. I see long lines inside pizza and all these foreign eateries because everyone wants to copy western culture but they forget that these things are killing them. It's only God that's protecting us in this country, all sort of deceits and illegal things people do their fellow man just to make money. 33 Likes 3 Shares |

No wonder anytime I eat beans of any kind, it must purge me the next morning. Even after rinsing, parboiled and rinsing many times again. It must purge. Now I know why🤔🤔 Had to quit eating beans because of this, because it happens every single time..🤔🤔 3 Likes |

I have raised a thread like this in the past and the mods ignored it as if it is not important I have said it that the dry fish, beans, vegetables and other perishable items we buy in the markets in this country are all laced with poisons. Nafdac and the Federal government are just acting as if they do not know what is happening while Nigerians are dieing every day from heart attacks. If Dora Akunyili was living, she wouldn't let this be. 5 Likes |

Bean is best preserved in Jerricans and tightly cap for air not to wnter. By so doing, no weevil will have access to it. But the challenge here is when you have large quantity of beans to preserve. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Lol every year they keep raising alarms over chemicals used in preserving beans, Nigerians are already used to dirtiness and use of deadly chemicals in their diets, so nothing new. The main question is "after raising the alarm, what happened next" 4 Likes |

This is not new If they don't preserve beans, weevils will not allow beans business to run. It is best to per boil your beans. When I buy 2 mudus of beans, in less than 3 weeks weevils are all over, I always wonder how sellers store bag of beans if they don't preserve it. 1 Like |

Even abroad pesticides are used for crop preservation. What matters is that you wash those beans and then wash it again before the beans gets soft. If una dey wait for crops that won't need pesticides una go wait tire! The best the government can do is to provide farmers and sellers with pesticides that are effective but less harmful! 11 Likes 1 Share |

I remember my lecturer teaching me in postgraduate school: If weevils avoid the beans, humans should possibly avoid it too. He was clearly referencing the kind of preservatives that prevent the weevils being often unsafe for human consumption. There have been instances where Nigerian beans exports are rejected in Europe as containing greater levels of pesticides than the European acceptable benchmark. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Everything in Nigeria poses a serious risk to your health. If you're thirsty, you might be sold contaminated water instead of bottled water. If you're in the mood to celebrate, you could end up with counterfeit wine made from unsafe ingredients. If you're hungry, you might find fish preserved with harmful substances and beans treated with questionable chemicals. After all this, if you fall ill, you could still encounter counterfeit medications at the pharmacy. Nigerians are facing significant health threats with every sip or bite. It's crucial for NAFDAC and SON to take stronger action. Simply destroying fake products isn't enough; the EFCC also needs to hold accountable those businessmen funding these dangerous operations. |

Aluminum phosphide tablets. This product is highly toxic but for beans to survive from germination to what you see on your table requires a lot of these chemicals. There is scarcely any alternative. The only remedy is to ensure the chemical is decomposed or evaporated to a low enough volume before consumption. Many traders don't do this and in the haste to sell, do not expose the grains for enough time. Maybe test kits should be provided? Or Organic foods? Otherwise, use visual signs like the absolute absence of pests or olfactory for pungent smells. If the beans is infested, these same consumers won't buy it. 7 Likes |
