That is why all these development commissions in the south should spend more on agriculture. As for state governors, those ones are irredeemable or should i say are focusing on things that are not priority. Between now and 2030, what all governors should focus on like a mad man is food security, not airports here and there. And the North corner some of these funds, and when the funds come here, na portfolio farmers i hear say go corner am too. Not that it doesn't happen in Middle Belt or core North, but at least, I believe an effective amount reaches them. Look at Niger State governor with what he is doing with farming and all that. Except Oyebanji of Ekiti, I am still yet to see governors who are serious now, maybe Sanwo Olu with some recent agricultural projects sha. But I think Oyo should take the lead but they are falling hand.

Agriculture is enough to pull Nigeria out. Imagine South-South being the stronghold for fisheries, rice farming too, and all kinds of sea foods in commercial quantities....etc. But then...sad.

Thanks. Yes, Oyo should take the lead in Agriculture in the South. The state has a very big landmass. Ogun State is not really serious about commercial crop production . All the southern governors need to come together and implement a serious blueprint on commercial agriculture , starting with Young Farmers Clubs in secondary schools. 10 billion naira contributed by each South West State towards an agricultural project is a good starting point.

Excellent. Well done.

The rest should continue to fold their arms or waste their time being abusive on social media demanding that 'Tinubu should bring down the cost of food'.

Tell them to farm, they can't, won't, or refuse, but they expect a President to do abracadabra in Aso Rock and use incantations to make foods fall from the sky.

You are a diligent and commendable citizen.

By this single action, you have contributed your small quarter to bringing down the price of beans in the coming months.

The deluded and entitled yoots should continue to refuse to farm and keep on whingeing. It's up to them.

Just shut the Bleep up, have you given them land? Have you given them training?

Some of you sound like retards who just have access to Internet. You think most youths of today have any form of financial leverage?

Do you know the amount of young men that have engaged me for capital to start farm. Have you seen the cost associated with some farming operations.

You own is just open mouth and talk nonsense.

If you are looking for real poverty, go to the villages. It is funny that they produce all the food yet you will find more malnourished kids in the villages. This is coming from someone who has traveled to almost all states in Nigeria. I do bulk buying of farm crops just so you know.
lol there problem arise from eating the wrong type of food due to lack of education e.g only cassava, yams, and maize with no protein.

There is actually no food shortage in the village

This year has been a blessed year to most farmers. I had a bountiful harvest from my beans farm this year. I sold over 20 bags and I kept enough to last me the next 12 months in my house. Apart from the ones I shared to family, friends and neighbors.

Farming is very lucrative these days. It's easy to become a millionaire via farming now. As few bags of farm produce will give you millions.

i also farmed beans in south east nigeria. sampea 20t but insect pests dealt with the beans especially pod sucker. i kept on applying insecticides almost every week till i was fed up and left the farm at the mercy of those vermins. i did not get an optimal harvest.

but actually the cost of starting farming in Northern nigeria is not so high,I don't know about the south but in places like, Gombe, and adamawa you can rented a farm of one acre for as low as 300k in some remote areas it is even less, they problem will be the remoteness of the area, there are many farmers that have several plots of land in different places and don't have the fund to cultivate them all they need to rent some to cultivate the others, if you have money don't hesitate to venture in to farming it is the most secure business to stake your money in Nigeria of today, Nigeria is undercultivated.

Lies Lies Lies. If you can show evidence that you actually harvested 20 bags and still kept 12 months supply at home , I will give you 50k right now. No Jokes. I sincerely doubt your story. I am not a farmer but i have a reason to doubt it.

You really don't get it.
Most households in the villages are only able to grow one or two crops. It's not easy and it's much less profitable for them to engage in multi crops. These people cannot afford a decent life. That's why people are living the villages.
People are not living the villages to go and suffer in the cities. They live the village because of poverty. Imagine a cassava farmer who can't afford to buy meat. And who can't afford treatment when his kid is sick.

Come on nah, how do you expect someone who's never lived in the North to pack and move north just because he wants to start farming?

Why are there more northerners in the South now than there have ever been? Please let's be practical when we discuss major issues.

yes I already understand your point as I say the problem is the area will be remote to you this is the great problem, but anyway I know southerners that relocated permanently to Northern states and become simple traders, carpenters, car repairs, betting shops management etc, I don't think if some one relocated because of farming will be a problem.

The other problem is insecurity that is why you are seeing more northerners in the south majority of them are wealthy peoples and their only assets is their land which is now under the control of bandits they have no idea other than to look for wage earning jobs in the cities whether in the north or down south.

You farm based on what is available. we have water body in the south meaning majority of farming should engage more aquatic farming.

The insecurity is the major problem, I was based in the north and had some farming operations going till the terrorists decided to start attacking farms we directly engaged. That's when I totally washed my hands off anything North because it was very dangerous then.

Come South now majority of farms in rural areas cross paths with Fulani herdsmen who are still a major problem. The issue of herdsmen can be stopped but government is not serious about it.

Because of terrorism!

They use terrorism to scatter their place

And in addition their place is very retrogressive due to cultural and religious beliefs

And the various religious riots that have happened there many people have fled those areas

This is the gospel truth therefore those who call youths lazy because they don't want to farm are just been useless to humanity.

Please, which crops can be planted in this dry season? Thank you.
