The plane did not crash from an altitude.
It landed, taxied for a while, skid off the runway and hit a barrier.




Staying on the runway would've been the best option but form the video, it appears the landing gears did not malfunction until the plane has touched down. If the landing gears fails during landing attempt, the pilot performs a belly landing and controls the aircraft to stay on the runway until it stops.
Landing gears are very complex systems and anything can happen at any time. It appears this one has a steering failure during taxiing that's why the plane veered off the runway.

2. The airplane crashed into that barrier because the pilot landed from the opposite direction, and it's suspected that he had to make that decision because he must have wanted to get the passengers out of the plane as quickly as possible for some reason.

3. One of the airplane engine was damaged by a bird while it was still in-flight: the airport official had sent a warning about the flocks of bird in the area before getting the pilot's mayday a minute later. There is also a video recording of the airplane engine blowing out after a bird flew into it.

I only responded with the information available online. I watched the news on CNN even before I saw it on nairaland.
I only know what's being said in the news by the authorities.
