Actually the first time in a long while seeing a Nigerian flick on the big screen and the experience was kind of nice :D....like the hall was packed full, and people seemed to be really enjoying it. I was doubting the figures they have been reporting that the movie has made, but after seeing that crowd, those numbers might actually be right o!.

And i think what made it enjoyable was the fact that it was a comedy with a familiar and relatable character.

And same! at your last paragraph, i actually watched more of Nollywood movies and series over the festive period and i actually enjoyed myself lol....rooting for Nollywood this 2025 even more than ever, i just know they have something for me ☺️

At the bolded..... Shebi I dey tell you that time say those numbers are authentic cos when me sef went to see Aquaman 2 in January last year, the kind of crowds I saw trooping in to watch the the different Nigerian movies fear catch me.
My screening was delayed into the night and I had to wait about two hours..... during that time I could easily count more than 700 people going in and out of the two screening rooms beside me for that Toyin Aimhaku film back then and Funke Akindele's latest.
We wey finally watch Aquaman no pass 15 sef and I been tempted during my wait time to join the naija groove cos those crowds was massive.

Last year was a record breaking year for the industry and many movies seems to be making money these days. So now Nollywood can't say they ain't making money no more to invest in serious stories. Hopefully profitability drives more risk taking.

Good to see that Sebestian Stan has broken away from the shadow of Bucky.

I watched the movie last year, and mehn were some scenes disturbing.

Yeah, some parts was disturbing but close to the ending I was more angered by how things turned out... prolly part of the reason I haven't dropped a review.
The lady used him in my opinion and discarded just when she found no usefulness in him and another to replace him. Didn't felt right with me and how casual she was about it.
The dude sef was stΓΌpid being very uncomfortable in his own skin and never knew what he wanted with life.

All in all, Bucky turned in a career defining performance. grin And has distinguished himself from the rest.
The other Super Soldier actor seems to can't get himself off back to back bad movies. πŸ‘€πŸ‘€

What do you think? Can you recommend a good movie about psychos? I don't really trust online ratings.

White Men do this same shii you are boldly accusing black men for, all the time. It just doesn't get as much rep, because of colorism tbh.

"Beautiful Black Women with glowing career only to end up dating hoodlums una"😩....The said beautiful black women are as much as complacent as the Hoodlums cutting their glowing careers short. Their poor decisions lead them there.

You get....

It's like Nigerians save money keep dey wait for festive period especially Xmas/New Year.

Few weeks ago wanted to drop box office receipts of some of these movies from Nairametrics, I tire sef cos many movies seems to be making money to I can't screenshot all. And as people no too dey thread I no come post am.

These people don dey make money now oo, even local movies now gross more than Hollywood over here. And with hopefully better economics and more cinema openings nationwide our box office size would grow. Imagine in a year with probably the worst austerity period in decades and they still recorded a record breaking year on entertainment?? How many Nigerians dey reason film when dem never chop?

If so can you recommend me any?

Lol, erotic movies kwa?? cheesy grin

I rarely watch Nollywood movies so I'm not in a position to give you that info. I merely follow Nollywood's growth through publications.

But I doubt Nollywood does that. Na over religious and morals obsessed country with high dosage of hypocrisy no go let people too try am these days.

Tho there's an increasing number of nudity in streaming movies sponsored by Netflix and Amazon.
Unless you want to go back to the days of Majid Michel and his Original Sin staples. grin

The babymama pandemic is much bigger in the black community.

Yes I agree that white people also have babymamas and single parent households.

But unlike the whites, that type of lifestyle is a full blown culture in the black community.

There's sufficient data on the Internet to prove this.

The Reader (2008)

Asides the movie "Atonement", I haven't had deep thoughts for a movie, until I watched this last night. Kate Winslet's acting was raw and superb. I've always had a thing for ladies, in their mid 30s to early 50s; so it was natural, that my thoughts were intensified. Her Oscar win was well deserved.
