FG Allocates ₦‎2.5 Billion For Passenger Boarding Bridges At Lagos Airport by Morbeta11(m): 8:02pm On Jan 08

2025 Budget: FG allocates N2.5 billion for passenger boarding bridges at Lagos airport

The Federal Government has allocated N2.5 billion in the proposed N49.74 trillion 2025 budget for the procurement and installation of passenger boarding bridges at the Lagos airport.

This funding is part of the N105.95 billion allocated to the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, of which N93.03 billion was earmarked for capital expenditures.

The project aims to enhance passenger convenience and operational efficiency at Nigeria’s busiest airport.

The provision for the boarding bridges is part of a broader set of aviation infrastructure projects detailed in the 2025 budget. According to the budget document, the allocation is categorized as an ongoing project, highlighting government’s efforts at modernizing airport facilities and improving the overall travel experience.

Passenger boarding bridges are critical airport infrastructure, allowing passengers to board and disembark aircraft directly from the terminal, eliminating the need for shuttle buses or walking across the tarmac.

Their installation at the Lagos airport is expected to streamline operations, particularly for international flights, and enhance safety standards.

The installation of the passenger boarding bridges at the Lagos airport in the 2025 budget is part of a larger strategy to upgrade critical airport facilities nationwide.

Additionally, the budget allocates N500 million for upgrading instrument landing systems from CAT I to CAT II/CAT III and installing these systems in major airports, including Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja, and Kano. It also provides N1.5 billion for the provision and enhancement of Wi-Fi services in five international airports and select domestic airports.

Other key allocations include N3.68 billion for establishing Nigeria College of Aviation Technology annexes in five geopolitical zones (Akure, Osubi, Ebonyi, Ilorin, and Yola), N1 billion each for baggage handling systems at Lagos airport and water cooling chillers at Lagos and Abuja airports, and N200 million for completing the General Aviation Terminal Protocol at MMIA Lagos.

Further allocations include N100 million for constructing car parks at the Hajj and cargo terminals at MMIA Lagos, N200 million for replacing elevators and escalators at Wings D and E of Lagos airport, and N50 million for rehabilitating the perimeter fence and road at Lagos airport.

The budget also sets aside N500 million for procuring, installing, and maintaining weighing bridges at cargo terminals in MMIA, Abuja, and other airports, along with N50 million for rehabilitating the Hajj terminal at Lagos airport.

Heavily inflated contract. Na so tinubu make him money from us in Lagos. Monies meant for real sector development are being diverted and siphoned via inflated contract prices.
I think Nigeria deserves someone like tinubu to teach everyone a lesson at this time. He gives no damn about anyone's existence.

Lagos State deserves all that it's getting and more.. check revenue figures from Lagos going to the centre and you'd marvel.

Lagos would have gotten "special status" with special privileges had it been the Igbos didn't fight the Bill at National Assembly.. the same Igbos can't stay off Lagos and fix their tiny dot enclave.

Nothing wrong about this. You're not getting the point. The contract sum is crazy. Google what a bearding bridge is, before you put forward a defence

It is also called a 'Jet bridge,' valid for boarding and disembarking from the aircraft.
The last time I flew to Nigeria through the MMA, I felt ashamed that an airport of such size didn't have a jet bridge.
We had to walk to a shuttle bus to take us to the terminal. Pathetic!

Bridge is the thing that elevates to airplane door for passenger to walk into the plane with. The ones at the airport need repairing or total replacement. It’s an eye sore. Gradually, that airport must come to a standard level.

Our airport is the gateway to the world.

It's still better than taking Chinese loans in billions of dollars to build railway for Niger republic that is not part of Nigeria. There are laid down channels to make enquiry about Government budgeting and project execution, Nigerians can use that channel.

Yes, Lagos deserves to be celebrates, no doubt.

It's the commercial centre of the nation, and has been the meeting point for foreign and domestic businesses since as far back as the 60s.

That still shouldn't stop the other states from stepping up and keeping pace.

I'm just disappointed that a nation as big as Nigeria has a single state miles and generations ahead of over 30 other states.

Don’t be ridiculous. A brand new jetbridge cost between 600k to 1m USD. Those prices are probably for used sef, can’t be new.

Murtala Mohammed international airport needs to be demolished and a new modern suitable one built to replace. This terrible airport was built by the British in the 1970s to accommodate 300,000 passengers a year. Now it's 2025 and it accommodates 3 million and is a users nightmare. All this new gates are just paper over the cracks.

Let's hope Lagos state builds lekki airport soon to put M.M international airport to shame
A disgrace to the nation.

You can pass for a prophet you know..

Lagos will still have privately-owned airports and seaports in the near future. Massive infrastructural and economic development coming to the State.

This is why I was pained that docile Yorubas could sit down and allow never-do-wells attack the State and burn down the state-of-the-art DNA testing laboratory and other structures under guise of EndSars protests that IPOBs hijacked.

Comparing Lagos to other states is not quite right. Its not apples for apples. I cant remember how many other states had the privilege of being our Federal Capital for almost a century. I dont know how many other states are the economic capital of Nigeria. Its really not a fair comparison. Lagos is special and will always be special and in a league of its own.

Tinubu may likely return Lagos as the capital city if care is not taken with the concentration of projects there.

I get your point... But it seems you have missed mine.

I have nothing but love and joy for the giant strides happening in Lagos, it's good for the nation.

But, what about the other 30-something states?!! What is happening with them?!

I am not demanding that they become on the same level as Eko... That's not possible.

However, I expect some level of growth in terms of infrastructure, economic activities, commerce, and industrialisation.

It's like Toronto being the all and above in the whole of Canada, or New York being solely growing in America.

At some European airports including UK Germany Iceland and so on, we still use shuttle buses no matter how inconvenient or cold...so this is a welcome development because it speeds up getting in and out of the plane especially for our disabled folks. God bless Nigeria

Sure, they need to step up, big time. Restructuring the nation towards true fiscal Federalism will be key.
