Cut off governors from LG elections to make LG bosses truly autonomous

This is commendable from federal government with hope that governance will get closer to the grassroots. However, EFCC work has just been expanded; they will need lots of work to do at local government, and ICPC should carry their search light closer to local government now that they are getting direct funds from FG. Many of those lazy local government workers that usually hang their coats in the office without ever visiting it in a week; only to wait for money sharing time before they appear must change their attitude now.

I suspect state governors would set up their own efcc to go after lg council memebers

Nigerian state governors are manipulative they will still create another treck using their errand boys(chairmen and councillors)at LGs that is why Nigeria is seriously in urgent need of electoral reforms that will reduce electoral malpractice to the barest minimum ensuring the emergence if people's mandate rather than imposition of the-power-that-be.

The cash distribution was done across Nigeria and special ATM was made for that.

It's not possible,I don't know about your LG but for mine....it's not possible,the chairman dear not trying that...... people will now start taking LG elections more seriously because the stakes are higher,my chairman's family house is a stone throw from mine and we can easily access it any time also the LG secretariat is right there in our midst and all those who work there.

If people begin to see the benefits,it would be a very good campaign point to vote out any gov that tries to hijack LG funds.....LGs in Lagos are already doing so much in terms of road infrastructure and health care......I can personally attest to that.

This is what i believewill do the magic,amplify how much each local governmentgets every month on,radio,tvprint and social media,CSOs instead of looking for what is not lost concentrate on the LGCs,the people should talk more about what their LG Chairman is doing or not doing and lastly, one or two LG Chairman that is found to have misappropriated funds should be made a scape goat by EFCC since they can be prosecuted even in office.That way,others will take dressing.

States and LGs can have multiple accounts in multiple banks while designating a specific account for FG allocations.

FG's job is to send money to their designated bank account, but LGs are regulated by state assemblies.

If FG sends them money, state assembly can ask them to make funds available in a specified joint bank account with the state.

Anambra state lawmakers already passed a LG Administration Law last year after the SC ruling, mandating LGs to deposit money allocated by FG into a Joint Account with the state. The state will deduct a percentage and send the rest to the LG.

Section 13(1) of the bill provides that the state shall maintain a “State Joint Local Government Account,” into which all federal allocations to local governments in Anambra State must be deposited.

Section 14(4) maintains that if the state receives the local government allocation on their behalf, it must deduct the specified percentage before disbursing the remaining funds to the local governments.

It would be a very good campaign point to vote out soludo.....any candidate that can promise LG autonomy in their state would gain a lot of support......your money doesn't have to sit in awka but should come directly to you in the grassroot.

Most people don't know that councilors are lawmaker of the local government by the time efcc arrested many local government chairmen they will enter voice mail into the governor

LGA’s no get bank account? Just set Government and local independent auditors on them. To prepare Quarterly and Annual Audits on their revenues and expenditures.

Electoral reform should come in too, Inec should be made to conduct elections into LGA. This is where we need the National Assembly to come in.

The money come directly from federal government to local government account. The chairmen can decide to give the money to their governors though, that's their problem. But federal will credit each of the 774 local government directly from Abuja.

It is now development will come to the rural areas because the govt is now closer to the people and also an end to lga chairman been a stooge to the governors.
You will elections where opposition parties will start winning lga elections .
The lga elections will now be more tuff and expensive.
Governors always have upper hand , but governors will no longer have that plenty money to still again in volumes like they so much did before now.
It all makes the President bigger , larger and more respected.
