Edo Poll: Drama In Court As PDP Witness Risks Jail Term For Perjury by Akpakomiza2: 12:58pm On Feb 01
In a startling development at the Edo 2024 Governorship Election Tribunal in Abuja, a 61-year-old witness for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Muitaru Yusuf, may face significant legal consequences after being accused of lying under oath.

This incident unfolded during the tribunal’s proceedings on Friday, where Mr. Yusuf’s credibility was called into question during cross-examination by Barr. Ferdinand Orbih, counsel for Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Mr. Yusuf initially testified that he based his statement, made on October 11, 2024, on screenshots of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) results. However, it was revealed that the PDP had only acquired certified true copies of these results on January 8, 2025, long after his claims were made.

This inconsistency indicated that Mr. Yusuf had provided false testimony, as the evidence he referenced did not exist at the time of his statement.

During the cross-examination, Barr. Orbih pointed out the discrepancies in Mr. Yusuf’s testimony. When questioned if he still stood by his initial statement,

Mr. Yusuf retracted his claim, admitting that he had merely relayed what the PDP instructed him to say.

Lying under oath in a court of law is a serious offense in Nigeria, punishable under Section 118 of the Criminal Code, which carries a potential prison sentence of 14 years. Perjury undermines the integrity of legal proceedings and threatens the authority of the judiciary.

As the tribunal weighs the implications of this revelation, the situation casts doubt on the credibility of the PDP’s entire petition and raises questions about the authenticity of the allegations made.

Political analysts are now pondering how many more such statements were constructed without basis, driven by the grievances of a few party leaders unwilling to accept the election results.

The PDP, led by its governorship candidate Asue Ighodaro, appears to be in a precarious position.

Facing accusations of desperation and attempts to manipulate the judicial process, they struggle to maintain their narrative amidst mounting evidence of potential misconduct.

Observers note that this development not only jeopardizes the credibility of the PDP’s claims but also poses a significant threat to the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic processes.

As the tribunal proceeds, the public remains attentive to developments, eager to see the repercussions for those who threaten the judicial system with falsehoods.

The tribunal continues its proceedings as the PDP attempts to navigate a challenging landscape in their quest to overturn the electoral victory that Senator Monday Okpebholo and the All Progressives Congress secured by a substantial margin with the support of Edo voters.

Another misleading piece from the coven of akpakoman... they don't go to court hearing but are the first to write on what they don't know

Asue Ighodalo and the PDP are dealing with them mercilessly by exposing the massive electoral fraud by inec

If there is anyone that should go to jail (of course, someone must go), it is definitely inec rec or their staff that stole Edo people's mandate

Ighodalo is coming

APC supporter who was not present in court writing to deceive their followers. APC is known for lies and misrepresentation of facts. The Witnesses answered correctly what he was asked based on what he observed on election day and the result in his hand.

You don't even know the witness in question. We have LGA agents witnesses, we have ward agent witnesses and unit agent witnesses and they're being called one after the other based on the duties they performed on election day

Misrepresentation and lies. INEC and APC witnesses will soon defend the fake result, they will be exposed and they are the ones to go to jail for perjury like Monday Okphebolo who presented 5 different dates of birth to INEC

A key witness for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) testified at the Edo State Election Petition Tribunal on Friday, detailing instances of over-voting in alleged favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Etsako East Local Government Area.

Appearing before the tribunal as a Polling Unit Agent, the witness demonstrated how the total number of votes cast at his polling unit exceeded the number of accredited voters recorded by the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

There's nothing I don't know about electoral matters. As you can see above, it was a mere unit agent. You see why PDP are always failing against APC. A unit witness can only testify for only his unit and not another talk less of ward or a whole LGA. Asue has failed

What is your problem? Did you read the whole message? There was no ward agent who testified, only the unit agent. Show me where there was a ward or unit agent. Does ogugwa balance his reports? He always writes about pdp winning, why can't I do the opposite

Oga sir, don't deviate or digress. You lost out as usual. We where talking about the daily trust headlines from a unit agent to mislead people. You and that fellow where totally wrong or misunderstood me. I never said only unit agents testifies. A unit agent lied that the whole LGA was rigged according to daily trust. There was no testimony from a ward or LGA agent according to that very post he posted from daily trust concerning Etsako east. Why are you introducing another different topic and matter when we haven't exhausted that one? Accept that you made a mistake and that your party fumbled first...

What you posted from vanguard is from Ikpoba okha another different LGA entirely... The evidence is also useless because it was given by the LGA agent instead of the ward agent. Only the ward agent or different unit agents can correctly testify what happened at that ward and not the LGA agent..another big loss

Like I said earlier, ogugwa chooses what he writes and I do same. So what is your problem

what you failed to realized is that the LGA and Ward Agent for the Aboves PU had already testify, but because you are not interested in them since it doesn't suite your narrative.

this is where the person you're referring to post is better than Yours

What stops daily trust and vanguard from reporting the accurate events? Why didn't they capture the correct proceedings and headlines? The evidence of those two are trash however..
You are the one not following the tribunal because if you did, you will agree that all PDP agents fumbled. One claimed he was an agent but had no tag, another claimed to witness rigging but was never at the units, another said there was over voting until the respondents proved him otherwise with bvas, one clown claimed there added wrong results until Barr Ikpeazu showed him otherwise, another said Asue lost the election. Is it the one that said he only based his reports from irev or one that claimed he saw bvas but later denied or the other that rejected his statements? Read the handwriting
