Bay1970: Being AS and having AS wife/husband is not end of the world, it gives you only 25% of having SS(sickle cell), 25% of AA and 50% of AS. Can it be avoided if posible? yes, but education is only the answer. If you love your AS boy/girl friend, do not let AS stop you from having someone you really love as a life partner; you might end up having a bitch with AA and in hell for the rest of your life. If you are AS with AS wife/husband, please remember to do CVS on every pregency. CVS will detect SC at 12 wks 100%. What are u saying? Lets be pragmatic abeg. How many centres in Nigeria can you do chorionic villus sampling + genetic testing? That's textbook stuff. Cvs ko, git ni. Stop misinforming people. 7 Likes |

Bay1970, after the scan @ 12weeks and d foetus is found 2be a potential sufferer, what next, u abort it & try again? Even if am on a hot seat, my final answer is NO! I can't marry someone with d SC gene if I'm a carrier! My own type of love takes Vitamin A for bright eyes...am AA tho but have seen what turmoil these people go thru when they've crisis... 5 Likes |

I have lost one, and i can pay anything to make sure d remaining one stays crisis-free and strong. Its a very terrible situation. My sis n husband actually did genotype test b4 marriage. Trust our Nigerian labs! Whn they had their 2nd child n he was SS ( RIP my little prince), they went back for test n discovered d former test was wrong. Now, we can do anything to 'change' d other boy's genotype n stop him frm having all d pains/crisis. Sorry for my long story, but plss SS + SS is NO! AS + AS = NO! 3 Likes |

annoymous:dont mind d clown! We are talking real issues, he is suggesting textbooks principles. So d couple ll willingly enter d union n continue wit tests n subsequent abortions until they test shows a baby without SS? Hm, ds is trying God, and no man made test is 100% Besides i have not seen those tests u mentioned in Nigeria. Pls pals, SS + SS = NO! I'm talking frm experience |

Life is not one way thing, if you happen to marry a AS for LOVE, you have an option. I have helped 2 - 3 Nairaland ladies with CVS in Lagos, their babies are fine and deeply in love with their AS hubbies. Life is give and take not one way thing. Guys cool off, life is too short. 1 Like |

Stop misleading pple for Heavens sake!! Abortion has a whole lot of trauma and pain, physically and psychologically.! AS/AS marriage is just pure selfishness! IT IS PURE SELFISHNESS ON THEE PART OF AS/AS PARENTS TO MARRY AND GAMBLE ON NOT HAVING A SS. The most painful part is that when that SS child grows and finds out that it was because of "Love" that he is suffering PAINS, TRAUMAS AND STIGMA almost every other day of his or her life, how will s/he feel. Of course it is not the parents or the AA or AS siblings that suffers these things. It is that "Unfortunate" SS child that suffers it. SAY NO TO AS/AS MARITAL UNION. |

Bay1970: My last post on thisTHIS POSTER IS THE VERY TYPE OF PERSON THAT WILL COME AND CONSOLE YOU BY SAYING, "Don't Worry, God knows the best". PLEASE AS/AS MARITAL UNION IS A NO-NO. Don't do it, the pain and stigma that we Warriors suffer is not enough reason to Gamble on LOVE. I guess as a Obygyn, you are sourcing for customers. Sensitive topic for me. Just few months back.... My ex and I broke up due to genotype issues....She is SS and im AS.... till now she hasnt forgiven me...we were meant to get married this year. But I guess I made a decision for us cos she couldnt bear losing me.... The most painful decision I ever made cos I love here dearly but I guess common sense has to prevail....I pray she understands someday and will forever be happy... 6 Likes |

Sirdayor: If everyone can identify the most important reason why he or she is getting marry, then issue of genotype or hiv status will not be a problem.universally, one of the reasons to marry is PROCREATION. Please do not encourage people to bring unnecessary sufferings to that Innocent Unborn Child. We that live with SCD know what it really means, you can only imagine. Behind those smiles, there may be pains going on. |

My BFF is one of them. I love her so much and have always been there for her, not in a pitiful way. I understand her pains during crisis. She ain't got the usual Sickle cell figure or look, she is very beautiful and in good shape One thing that scares me is knowing that one day she may be gone. Yeah I know we all must die I one way or thee other but.... God bless them and give all of em the strength to bear the pain and keep fighting. Knowing the amount they spend on medical bills at one the best hospitals in Los Angeles makes me wonder how the poor or those from average homes go through it all. I hate hospitals but for her I've spent a few nights at the hospital to keep her company. Please marry right! 4 Likes |
