Governor Peter Obi And The Danger Of Ethnic Card by Gorrbachev: 7:01pm On Nov 20, 2013
CNPP PRESS STATEMENT - 20 November 2013

Conference of Nigerian Political Parties {CNPP} is alarmed over Governor Peter Obi’s penchant for ethnic card; which portends danger for our fledgling democracy.

Penultimate day, it was the issue of Yorubas deporting Igbos from Lagos, forgetting that he deported non-indigenes in 2009, yesterday it was an Hausa man, in this instance Malam Nasiru Elrufai, who came to stop his rigging plan and today the ethnic card allegation is that it was Osun State women who demonstrated at Awka against the sham Anambra State governorship election.

For the avoidance of doubt the women who demonstrated are aggrieved and courageous bonafide Anambra women whom Professor Attahiru Jega deliberately not only disenfranchised but stole their mandate. The video clips are still there, we therefore challenge Governor Obi to publicly point out Osun women in the video pictures. There is a limit to the endurance for a people whose mandate were stolen.

On the House Arrest of Malam Nasiru Elrufai, Governor Obi proclaimed, ‘As an APGA Chieftain, I won’t go to Katsina, ….if I ve my way I will bundle him out’. He forget that Elrufai’s freedom of movement is guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution Federal Republic of Nigeria, which he as governor swore to protect.

Governor Obi instead of the ethnic card, should do an introspection, asking himself, why the desperation in getting Ndi Anambra to seamlessly elect the candidate of my party, after 7 years of serving my people? Why is Senator Ngige an issue out of 23 candidates?

CNPP once more call for total cancellation of the election, and resignation of Professor Jega for complicity as events have shown the invincible hand of President Goodluck Jonathan in the sham election.

Otherwise how can his party the PDP abandon its candidate, Comrade Tony Nwoye and support APGA’s Pyrric victory in the face of gross irregularities and substantial evidences that tainted the election?

Mr Osita Okechukwu
National Publicity Secretary

In a state where citizens are politically gullible and not actively engaged in practicing their civic responsibilities, it would be expected that marginal lines of ethnicity will be exploited to channell collective sensibilities and self evaluation in parity to others.

Why all this fuss about Anambra election by yoruba people, I wonder how many Igbo people that showed interest in Ondo state election or any other SW state.
Ngige has lost deal with it.

Peter Obi is a wicked man and thinks himself wiser than the entire Anambra State. if Anambrians fall mugu this time without mass action, then I give up. I believe Abians will not fall mugu again in 2015. It is best for people to stand for justice than to stand for money or form ignorance.

The script was poorly edited. Anyway, the points are clear and unambiguous. All you see are those big men on long red chieftaincy cap in the name of apga milking the state dry. I doubt if they can hold their own for long. Lets see how these pans out.

Good lesson:
1. It is difficult to beat the party in power.
2. The south west had done well in the past to change the status quo.
3. Anambra needs to be dislodged completely, breaking down its 'traditional' hegemonies. So many unbelievers and idol worshippers.
4. Only APC has the powers...even if it does not work this time, sometime in the nearest future...through the court or some other democratic means.

Well said CNPP, especially the igbo spokesperson. I keep saying only brainless, uneducated, foolish and brainwashed (almajiri igbos) igbos support the fraud called Peter obi, I rather associate myself with hausas and yorubas (despite my reservations for them) than the fraud and backward minded Peter obi. Peter obi has the biggest mall in Abuja (North), business headquarters in Lagos (yoruba) despite being Anambra governor but yet brainwashing these foolish igbos with tribal politics.

Ethnic sentiments or not, fact is El Rufai had no business being in Anambra on election DAY. He was neither a voter nor an INEC accredited observer. So what was he doing in Anambra on election day? He was just there to cause chaos and confusion on election day. Peter Obi was right on this one.

You want to tell me as a citizen of Nigeria,he has no right to freedom of movement? What was Obi and APGA scared of? What's the difference between Fashola's deportation of Igbos and holding El-Rufai to a hotel arrest by Obi?

Brainless Abagworo! Have you heard Anambra youths condenming the elections? We are happy with APGA, so stop taking panadol for our headache! Your useless APC has no place in Anambra, get that into your thick skull! By 2015 I am sure Imo people will bundle out the clownish Efulefu called Rochas!

Y are u so always given to mischief like this? Do you think a man of El-Rufai's standing will just go to any place without having any reason to be there?

Let it be known to you that he was an INEC accredited party observer and he was scheduled to help coordinate the APC situation room during the election

May I also remind you also that he was indeed the collating officer for the APC Guber Primaries between Ngige and Ezeemo while Ibrahim Shekarau serves as the Returning Officer for the same exercise. So El-Rufai didn't start going to Anambra today or on the election day!

You people should be careful the politics of seclusion you are playing?

Most of the Igbo billionaires today made their money under the Hausa military rulers! So while the common folks loath and hate them, your elites sure know where they stand in the scheme of things hence have been romancing them

If the yorubas are your 'enemies' that shouldnt step foot on Igbo land, are the Hausas too barred from coming to your place even if they have a legitimate business and assignment to do?

While the Yorubas may be rational, circumspect and pain-staking in doing things, you sure know that the northerners know how to post recompense for every act of agression against them!

Ndigbo call the likes of Peter Obi and Victor Umeh to order!!! Election will come and go but the seed of discord being sown will linger till the 5th generations!

Should any conflagration starts, its the local folks that will bear the brunt not them!

Nuff said!

The day Peter Obi steps his foot in the north, boko haram should eliminate him. If he dares come to the south west, OPC should hunt for his big head and cut it off. Bigots like him are not meant to be alive and cause disunity between Igbos and other ethnic groups. Enough is Enough!!

I was so disappointed in the politics of division that played out in anambra.
Catholic vs other faiths. Thank God no muslim (islam) mix in the equation.
Ngige is good but joined awolowo people who killed our people.
El-Rufai has no right to be in anambra (a part of Nigeria not Biafra).
How will these Igbo people approach other Nigerians in future to solicit for their votes to produce an igbo president of Nigeria with these level of tribal and religious hatred?

I can see frustration, pain, anguish and vindictive outburst vented out on this thread. It's good and healthy, it helps in relieving your mindset from transferred aggression against your neighbours and family members.

Sorry my friend, nobody will solicit for anything from any tribe. Truth is that the north that has produced the highest number of presidents is still the most backward of all the regions.

Well, it doesn't seem so with the large number of your people in the South west and North that refuse to relocate home regardless of the situation.

@Agbameta, you know your statement is wrong. There are a lot of Igbos that don't support what's happening.

And this makes what difference? Is this going to wash away your tribal way of life, misery and destructive existence or even make it worse?

Separation from Nigeria is the least of your worries, you people have some chronic, generational and anti social issues to worry about...

He has the biggest mall in the north. His business headquarters is in Lagos, He has a money laundering case with Lagos government. He has no business in igboland apart from the fraudulent sabmiller he built with state funds in onitsha. Lets see what happens when immunity goes.

Yes but they choose to remain silent while their leaders disparage others and cause ethnic hatred.

Can you name one notable Ibo man who defended Fashola when he was falsely accused of deporting Ibos from Lagoos??

*Pls don't mention Ngige and Igbokwe, they're APC members*

The political leaders are the adults and also the main perpetrators and we are yet to see any of them denounce or exclude themselves from this insane and anti social behavior.

This is not even new anyway because this is core behavior since day one. Achebe spewed the same rubbish till his last breath.
