Have'nt been through ds discipline for complete five years,i came 2 realised agriculture does not worth d five years programm...supose d courses under d faculty of agriculture ar splitted just like everyother courses in science zone i tink d work load will b reduce n does 1 will not end up been jack of trade n master of none...imgine wen u said ur studying science..it asumed u r studying physcis, chemistry, biology, mathematics, geography n the agriculture itself...bt dis is not so, cuz every course were split n thus ds reduce d work load on d student under ds faculty....so if thesame method is applied 2 agriculture,i tink d students will also find it more easier n intresting in d field...imagine u studying agriculture, along side u will b given many course with subordinate like soil science, animal science, crop science, fishery forestry and many other which i cld not mentioned.all ds ar time consuming...in view of these ar xpress ma opinion, i wouldnt know if agreed or disagreed with my story....bt let hear from you,did u tink d five years programme worth it or not

I think it should be as it is because one aspect in agriculture might not b profitable in terms of business but if u have many knowledge of different aspect of agric, u can easily venture into another profitable aspect.

Ideally, I don't think it should because it's a professional course i.e, you get B.Agric degree and not B.Sc. But due to the fact that Agriculture is not given preference in this part of the world, it doesn't worth it.

@ Op check ur English pls... but to ur questions, i think the idea of first degree program is to give you a "general feel", after which you can go for ur masters and specialise in a field of ur choice.

but for me i believe this is not helping us.Fields like agriculture thats more of practicals should be vocational in nature. this means you can go straight up to where ur interest lies, like fishery, crop, poultry etc coupled with entreprenueral education. This will expose the student to alot of practicals, and at the end he can be selfemployed and an employer of labour.

This is a good topic to debate.

personally, I've always thought any course in Agric should not be more than 3 years of theory and one year of practical training.

op, do you think coconut tree is worth waiting, for more than 5 years to be ready for harvest.

agriculture has taken a technological phase. this is not planting and harvesting era and Nigerian farmers need to advance in horticulture .

other countries are busy producing seedless foods and advancing their ways of preservation, you are talking thrash. the last I checked , a Nigerian farmer is yet to know how possible you can grow an Orange , water Mellon, grape , etc seedless .

to me, the time ain't to long, our area of concern should be the study guide instead.

Nigerian students waste a lot of time studying the same thing for years. most courses in our unis deserve to be 3 yrs . agriculture and other five year courses deserve to b four as what u learn from ur 3rd year is very similar to ur 4th and fifth year.

At the bolded if that is how they teach in faculty of Agricultural Science, that means you need an extra year making it Six years to add many courses in your General studies Unit and English department.

NB: Nobody is perfect but please OP try as much as possible to eliminate shorthand in your spellings.

If oyibo dey read this you write up e no go understand and him go they abuse our system of education.

There are too many errors in your post which I do not even have time to analyze. Go through the ones I've stricken out and find out the correct words yourself.

You have spent five years in a university and you still don't see anything wrong grammatically and spelling wise in your post!

And please learn to write not in"shorthand" because it does not help your writing skills. I hope you take my contribution in good faith.

Was this piece written by an undergraduate? How did you pass English? Even your title 'Did you think....' Ought to have started with 'Do you think.....' Please learn to write out your words in full. You style of writing is affecting your English.

It's even funnier for him to have said nothing was wrong with his English when his attention was called.

Our education system has really gone very bad. Perhaps out control already.

OP Change the topic to "Do You Think" not the "Did You Think".

As to the topic, I think the '5 years' is appropriate.

Personally i hate short hand, most of my friends i do chat with call me "Mr write it all". I do encourage them to do thesame, if you are writing with shorthand you won't be concious of your spellings error.

With this kind of English you wrote I think the duration for a degree in English should be extended to 6 years.

To you nothing is wrong with it but to me something is wrong with it bro.

It is not because of wrong spellings but incoherent writeup.

You suppose to organise it in a way that it will be easier to cogitate. You are a graduate for crying out loud.

Agric should be 5years but 2yrs training, 1yr retraining and 2years practicals after which the government subsidizes cash for every student and gives them lands to farm on. A utopian Nigeria I dream of
