Am I Suffering From Acute Memory Loss Or Forgetfulness? by Caracta(f): 10:30am On Aug 16, 2014

For the past few months, i notice i forget things easily. I find it difficult to remember certain recent events. I forget things committed to memory. I read two chapters of a book and forget what the first chapter was about. I see a phrase, ask me about it in 40 seconds and i can't remember.

It's alarming. Someone copied a phrase from one of my write-ups and acknowledged me as the writer but i had to deny writing the piece until he showed me where i had written it. I was like, "did i write that?"

I checked into a clinic and one of the nurses scared me by saying it could be as a result of a growing tumor (without any test or scan).

What do you think i'm suffering from? Has anybody experienced this? Do you think it could be a tumor?

(I just hope i won't forget this thread in few minutes)

When last did you take a vacation? When I mean vacation, I mean no stress environment, laughter (real one ooo) and you running without worry.....

Answer that and you have solved part of the wahala

Really sorry about your predicament. You need to see a qualified doctor for proper diagnosis and medical advice; a nurse's word aint enough. Also, try and record things you'd like to recall, that could help too.

Go to the best hospital you can find. There are so many potential causes, so there's no point in speculating about a particular cause (tumors). Anything that affects your brain could make you forgetful, so it's imperative to find out what it is by seeing the best doctors you can afford. You need time to relax, meditate and re-train your brain to increase your multi-tasking capability.

You are just stressed, sleep deprived or maybe your brain works too fast and you think about more interesting things and your brain is not able to remember all of them because you don't meditate.

You are just stressed, sleep deprived or maybe your brain works too fast and you think about more interesting things and your brain is not able to remember all of them because you don't meditate.

I think I experience that sometimes. I just feel too many things rushing into my head at once, making it very difficult to process all of them. Moments like that, ask me to calculate difficult sums up in my head and I would give you the answers in seconds. Ask me the names of past U.S. presidents and I would respond so fast you would think I was a machine. Words would rush out of my mouth even speeches and quotes of leaders made years before I was born. Ideas pop out of my head like popcorn.

To slow it down, I play chess and it calms me (sometimes). Other times, I can't even remember anything.

Yes Seun, do you think dental problems affect memory? I'm curious.

Teeth have very deep roots, which are quite close to the brain. A dental problem that isn't treated properly could affect your ears, brain, eyes, etc. It can even kill you (b4 dentistry became a major profession, it was quite common for people to die from dental infections; they're nasty)

The solution to any health problem is to get it correctly diagnosed and then treated. Any advice contrary to this is dangerous, bro.

The fact that you still remember Nairaland shows that there is no cause for alarm cheesy

Go to the hospital for proper diagnosis to nip it in the bud.

Between, you should bring 3 fat female cows ( white with no blemish) to appease the gods.

After, we will do deliverance.... grin

Tested/diagnosed 1st, before letting your brain, muscles and joints to rest.

Also take note of this, how many hours do you focus on work? ( at work, still on work,even at home, then homework again) if u can collate this is a week, and its alarming....... Il advise one thing ( Oga Seun's idea is good o)

BUT QUIT THAT JOB!!!!

My uncle died of this amnesia stuff- lawyer! A pain in the ass even to his kids the year he died. Its dangerous to overwork the powerhouse. Get checked up quickly!

The commonest causes of memory lapse, especially in a young person are psychological rather than organic i.e structural brain lesion. Less commonly in an otherwise fit and well person will be endocrine/hormonal and then nutritional (usually micronutrient deficiency e.g selenium, manganese, magnesium,chromium and the like). Oh and if a female we shouldn't forget anaemia. See a doctor, get a physical and baseline bloods and take it from there. You can PM me for further advice if you so wish. All the very best!
