blexxonmak: I can tell you that this ongoing cold war is all about anti-gay marriage bill that was signed into law Right now they are confused enough to be influenced by such things- imagine the bankruptcy or absolute and blinding sanctimoniousness that would see a Nation of the stature of America overlook the mass murder of women and children in the NE of Nigeria just to satisfy gay people. NB I love much of what America stands for and I believe that of all the Nations out there Nigeria and Nigerians are nearest to America in characteristics: we share similar humor, were are similarly straightforward, similarly despise envy; similarly dislike sneaky attitudes; similarly value respect; similarly like to succeed and be number one; similarly like enterprise; similarly despise cowardliness etc. Even Nigeria's unwitting 100 percent capitalism was what America aspired to and which they debate pointing to its consequences in terms of morality and social consequences. What separates us (For the pedantic, among other things such as level of development) is race . Now, when you've taken all the geopolitical stuff into consideration, race can be the difference between favorable or negative transaction - all things being equal - and both parties may not even be consciously aware. This is such a difficult idea to put across. Here's a thought: Nigerians are a very different animal from what West are used to dealing with in terms of people of African origin. I wont preach but so i'll cut straight to this: They will go through three phases: First stage: Nigerians will be a novelty (This stage has already been passed) Second Stage: Nigerians we'll be a challenge (This stage has almost passed ) Third Stage: they will be in denial; (this is the stage we're in) This stage is marked by relationship that attempts to place Nigeria in a category no different from the rest of Africa (Africans are to be dictated to and rewarded for complying) . And since Nigeria does not quite fit, there will be an overcompensation in which they try to treat us worst than other African nations in order to convince themselves of our true place as a mere "African nation to be dictated to like all the rest" or get us to spend out energy trying to be treated as good as other African nations so we wouldn't aspire to be engaged with on equal terms to the majority of aspiring Nations out there such as Brazil, India, China and so on. Fourth stage: there will be an acceptance ( This stage will be marked by a relationship with Nigeria that is subject to all the rules of international engagements informed by geopolitics and international norms, values laws and so on that govern relationship with her true peers such as Brazil, Malaysia, India, China etc) 4 Likes 1 Share |

agangadiman: Whats concerns visa with the topic at hand? Is a personal view of the strength of the US economy a condition for granting visas? Why is it that Nigerian political lapdogs always get personal when debating issues? Putin pissing over Obama? please explain how. The US economy has been the largest economy for over 140 years and is still the largest economy as of today. Yes the chinese economy is fast catching up but it still depends heavily on the US for technology and market. The Chinese (and Russia) cannot afford at this moment to engage the US in an economic war, yes it would greatly affect the US economy, but it will damage the Chinese and Russian economy more. The US has launched some economic sanctions against Russia, Russia's retaliation was to impose a ban on beef from Europe and the US. The mentality of the Americans are very different from that we African, we African love to beat our chests for insignificant achievements. A Nigerian creates a toy rocket and we would hear how a nigerian as invented a world wonder. Our earnings increase as a result of consistently high oil prices, and we make so much noise about being the fastest growing economy in the universe. Meanwhile the Americans always down play their strengths. When the Japanese economy was growing at double digit in the 80s and 90s, the Americans were overhyping the Japanese and downplaying American achievements (They do this to spur themselves further). Latter we saw that the growth was unsustainable and it was controlled to a large extent by the US. Then we heard a lot about Japanese technology when actually the so called Japanese technology was a copycat of American technology. The same senerio is playing out with the Chinese. America (and to some extent Europe) still controls world's technology, China only copies using cheaper materials and labour. About the value of Africa today. It is sad that as of today Africa has very little value. Africa of today is famed for nagative things like poverty, wars, famine, disease, corruption, etc. We have failed to realize that the most valuable assert a nation can have is its human resources, and believe, me we are lacking greatly in this regard. To make matters worse, the little credible manpower we are producing are pilfered by other nations. They design immigration policies to steal our best. Our best brains and athletes ply their trade for other countries. Our literacy levels are falling yearly, our universities are producing half literates and our research institutes are non existent. Is this how we are going to progress and lead the world? 9 Likes 3 Shares |

che!!! che!!! what am to believe, which story is true which is not?? and if it true that us is bridging Nigeria from buying this sophisticated weapon to fight insurgence what is their benefit?? or may be they are the true sponsors of boko and their sporting with humans life. On the other hand could it be their normal way of stealing from public treasury? Either way let's pray to God of mercy to continue his work of protection and provision for those of us who are helpless in situations like this that we may lack nothing,,, while the race to eternal home continues 1 Like |

Stopping arms sells to an irresponsible government is the right thing to. Nigerian government is very corrupt, st*upid and incompetent. The Americans Obama sent to Nigeria to help in BH problem, complained that working with Nigerian officials was very difficult because of their incompetency. 1 Like |

The only reason you made this nonsense comment is because GEJ has not involve the universities/polytechnics in his indigenous weapons development program When he involves the higher institutions and we start seeing weapons as advanced as US weapons, then we would know if you will make this kind of statement. |

Didn't you see where they mentioned Russia won't sell because of the fizzle in UKRAIN or you think weapons are food that you will eat and forget about it. Don't you know they will need spare parts and maintenance for the aircrafts? Will you go and buy car that has limited copies , how will you get the spare parts easily!!!! Use your head oh, if you can't be positive then keep quiet. |

Overlooking emotions and sentimentality in international relations is one of the mistakes we make as a Nation. International politics isn’t yet run by Google’s artificial intelligence The Brain. And while humans still engage in international politics, we should be mindful not to disregard the part human emotions play. Among other things emotion inform racism and other forms of prejudices -obviously. Take for instance this Nigeria oversight: we learn that the relevant Nigeria authorities in terms of weapons procurement intend to look to China for substantial military equipment and political largess. We have already purchased Naval assets from China and aim to do more business. And yet with some of our naval assts from China we have impounded illegal fishing trawlers of Chinese origin – all commendably businesslike so far, if a little uncomfortable. Indeed, we could go so far as to use this as illustrative of the maxim that emotions does not mix with business. However, how wise was it that we then allowed Aljazera to make a documentary for international consumption showing Nigerian naval participation in the impounding of Chinese illegal fishing trawlers? Considering this, how totally businesslike and devoid of the repercussions of emotional resentment will further business engagement between Nigeria and China be in future especially in relation to Naval procurement? How reliable will they be in future when we are at our most needy? We shouldn't hold to it with such concrete certainty that business of state is without emotional content- it aint so. Humans run politics, humans have long memories, humans are grudgefull, humans are bigoted all these things are emotional contents that play their parts and often might be the tiny factor swings a decisions one way or another. A sign that one of these might have influenced a decision is when you - who might have been at the business end of a negative decision - simply cannot figure out why a decision went against you when there is no reasonable way it should have. |

wirinet: So Jonathanians think they can confront the US of A, that is the stupidity of the century. When even countries like the UK, Germany and Japan always make sure they dont antagonize the Americans. Even the Iranians have seen the folly of being enemies of the US, they are gradually coming to their senses and are tying to mend fences with the US. Even almighty Russia that is doing shakara now would eventually retrace their steps and make peace with the US. Putin is just trying to get concessions on Crimea and some Russian speaking parts of Ukraine. Politics in Nigeria runs on empty pride and grudges. Those are the only two things. And then they make the mistake of thinking every other country operates on boasts and perceived insults. It's like watching children. |

What are your suggestions to this debacle? [/quote] don't get me wrong I'm not saying we should overhaul in 24hrs. I meant that all this while we have been allocating so much to security. Even some non appropriated funds I learnt had been channelled towards security. That means security has been a big issue this past years. If we have sincerity of purpose by now shouldn't we have had these military helicopters before it got this bad. All this talk of no proper weapons to fight insurgency shouldn't have come up at all. We need to be pro active in what we do in our dear nigeria. The fact remains that most of the issues we have in this country didn't start today and if we were sincere with ourselves we would have conquered them years before now. Meanwhile back to your question. The military should fight but don't put dane guns in the hands of people's parents and ask them to fight insurgents ak47s. While politicians are looting funds enough to buy nuclear weapons. Let's continue to fight but put the right weapons in the hands of our soldiers. Fill their bellies with good food. Take care of their loved ones at home so they can have rest of mind on the battle field. And when they die in combat take care of the ones they left behind. God bless Nigeria 2 Likes 1 Share |

ChimaAdeoye: Although I seek disintegration, I ask myself the motive why US who opposed disintegration in the 1960s will want to disintegrate Nigeria 55 years later. I watched a documentary that proved that some US corporations financed communists in the 1918 and Nazi before 1939 Could the demand for PIB ( Petroleum Industrial Bill ) which will give the oil people access to ownership be the cause of US indirect support for BH who we strongly believe occupies a part of lake chad and its environs full of oil, uranium and other precious resources. If we remember the comment made by Lamido of Adamawa at the Confab am I correct to say that some powerful Northern elites had signed an agreement with US corporations to finance BH the way they financed communists and Nazis in order to breakup Nigeria and have easy access to hidden precious minerals buried beneath the NE region. 2 Likes 1 Share |
