The Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Allocation Commission [RMFAC] earlier this month raised alarm on the debt burden of some states in the Federation. The National Assembly has also raised the same alarm. The Imo State Government has severally said that she has no loans taken since the inception if this administration. But during the budget presentation, for the 2013 budget, it became clear that Imo State government is heavily indebted. The budget reveals that twenty two (22) billion naira loan was obtained by this administration in 2011, and sixty one (61) billion naira obtained in 2012. The government further seeks the approval of eighty one (81) billion naira loan for the coming 2013. These figures do not include the forty five (45) Billion naira loan obtained from Zenith Bank using the Local Government Area Allocations, as collateral. If the State House of Assembly approves the budget, with the requested 81 billion naira loan for 2013, Imo would have taken a total of 211 Billion Naira loan in 2years of Rescue Mission administration. http://www.imostateblog.com/2012/12/16/mortgaging-the-future-of-imo-children-dr-kelechi-okpalake/#sthash.6XRK9ZBn.dpuf |

**external debt hits over N100billion in just few months. The Imo state government have been declared unfit to borrow more more money by the Nigerian Apex bank, the CBN. Few months ago, the Debt Management agencies frown at the rising debt profile of Governor Rochas Okorocha's government and the apparent less ability to of the state to pay back these loans in the next 25 years. PEAK of borrowing for the state. CBN stated that Imo state is owing over 100 billion Naira and that is the reason Apex bank placed them on the "No Borrowing list', meaning that they will no longer borrow from any bank in Nigeria and no approval will be given to them for external loans. - Hope For Nigeria. http://savannahreports.com/local/item/146-imo-state-banned-from-borrowing-more-loans |

14 APGA LG chairmen defect to PDP in Imo Fourteen of the 27 local council chairmen of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and their supporters in Imo State, yesterday, defected to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in solidarity with Chief Martins Agbaso, who dumped APGA for the latter last week. The defectors also accused the state chairman of the party of acting as a sole administrator by unilaterally sacking the local government chairmen of the party in the state in total disregard for the party’s constitution. Addressing newsmen at the Owerri North Secretariat of the party, on behalf of the defecting chairmen, Evans Mbata said their decision was informed by alleged highhandedness of the state chairman of the party, Peter Ezeobi. According to Mbata, the chairman acted like a sole administrator taking unilateral decisions that offended allegedly the spirit and letters of the party’s constitution. He said: “The present APGA state leadership with the support of the national leadership undemocratically and illegally dissolved the local government executives and by extension, the ward executives in 14 local government areas. This raised a lot of dust, agitation, riot, but to no avail because those causing the problem were insensitive to the feelings of the local government leadership. A point came when we started thinking that the party’s present state chairman was brought to destroy the party that we cherished and rebuilt after Governor Okorocha had abandoned the party for APC.” He alleged that the current state chairman with the support of the national chairman forced out Chief Martins Agbaso, who had committed his personal resources to rebuilding the party. “ The state chairman was working against the man ( Agbaso) we see as a father and a leader, who had led the party for many years, winning elections. To show solidarity, we also have to resign our membership of the party,” he stated. |
