Erotex: Many people ask me this question when I deride Nollywood. Honestly I love to support the performing arts industry as a great economic tool but we have got to seperate the industry from the operators and give these ignorant, uncultured, money minded charlatans a hard knock. Creative arts is open to criticism and Nollywood must ride it like a surfer to ever improve their acts. |
Re: Hilarious Names Of Nollywood Movies by Reference(m): 6:34pm On Oct 03, 2014 |
Erotex: For those who are criticizing Nollywood No sir, we cannot be satisfied with what they are churning out until quality comes through. Nollywood should take the criticism in good faith and improve before their audience begin to vote with their feet. They are lucky Nigeria has a very small middle class. Once our economy takes off and more people are educated and exposed to foreign standards, the industry will crumble. |

The truth is that Nollywood meteoric rise from the late 80's coincided with declining standards in Nigeria across board - education, enlightenment, morals, industry and creativity. It came about as a result of the backlash to anything western as a result of the widening gap between Nigeria and the rest of the world. As we fell away we found succour in home grown entertainment. The worsening economy that has led to massive rural - urban drift has further boosted sales with a lot of patrons unable to recognize the need for excellence in creativity. But this will not go on in perpetuity. Even Bollywood is evolving. Nollywood must evolve also or risk it all. |
