My in-law had a friend (an ex-class mate) in the university who got married to an ijebu guy immediately after graduation. Need i say she didnt make it alive from the marriage, with less than a year into the marriage, she caught a strange illness and never recovered. Up till this moment, what killed that lady remains a mystery. The only daughter to her parents, no child...nothing That was the first time ever i heard the scary story about ijebu people, i even argued with my inlaw then on the stereotype about ijebu people cos i've had plenty of yoruba friends but never heard about it, and she laughed at my naivity. Down the years i have heard such sentiments resonate over and over again and even expressed by yorubas themselves. Times have changed and still changing, we really need to get rid of these cultural stereotypes still in practicse in some places |

coogar:my thoughts too. Funny thing is the so called osu's are always very beautiful, even many of their men are said to be very rich and succesful, so i heard. I was discussing with a friend days ago, and told him him that if i find a girl to marry and she happens to be osu, ill go ahead even if my parents objected for instance. He then reminded me that the ummunna will disassociate themselves from anything concerning the marriage, of course this got me thinking...... I have the feeling that 'some' of the pretty girls who are of marriageble age who you see in marriage seminars may be the osu thingy denying them marriage, cos sometimes you begin to wonder why such a beautiful girl isnt married In 's voice, May God help us all |

tpia1: are you going to tell me or not? one more denge-posing from you & i will twist your lower lip. shizzle11: if i come across any osu chic, i would loan her a protruding belle. the umunna & umuada can't do nada. i will first do a change of name for her - give her an itshekiri or an ijaw name. they won't be able to trace jack. transport fare is expensive these days, no one would risk their lives to go to asari dokubo's domain & catch the stray bullets of ijaw terrorists. moca: ituku ozalla till the second coming..... |

Stillfire: ...I'm sure your sister will learn the courtesy demanded of Ijebu women and pass it on to you...otherwise, there is also an outlaw section. She can't go too wrong with a Jebusite. Funny, I've known groups of sisters to all marry Ijebus. I'm sure you won't dull ! Practice your ikokore... TV |

sandijey: Don't fret, say whatever you want to say, no one is going to attack. I only came on the thread to post something positive, to create a balance, with the negative energy. Which I did before the resident Ijebu stalker decided to quote me about some id.iotic chest-beating. When marked folks do that, you just have to serve them lol. Anyway, aren't you half-Itshekiri? Well, most of your people have Ijebu ancestry. And a lot of semi-autonomous Itsekiris still maintain their Ijebu links. Also your language is allegedly closer to the old Ijebu language, than the current one. That is why it is always great to study history and migration patterns. |

moca: I have a link with both! Ijebu people are very nice people, spent a chunk of my childhood there and I must say they are really cool. but then again, there are good and bad people everywhere. @op, if you know your partner well enough and she'a good enough for you, then by all means go ahead! |

sandijey: I think a certain Prof. Sagay is one of the foremost Itsekiri historians out there. You can get some of his works on Itsekiri history on google scholar. Off the top, I know Omadino and Ugborodo clans of Itsekiri migrated from Ijebu waterside. And they still maintain their Ijebu links by being semi-autonomous. There are a few others. Then you have Ode Itsekiri, Ode Ijebu or flip it to Ijebu Ode, and Ode Remo. One big family but you can post the stereotypes if you want lol. Itsekiris were also big slave traders like the Ijebus lol. 1 Like 1 Share |

anyway, its my understanding there are old families in lagos who are descended from a mixture of akoko and ogun indigenes originally, although they are mostly now lagosians. so, the combination is not new, not sure why the op is trying to make it appear so. |

SirShymex: See as u just open my people yansh for here. At the end of the day. It's just normal for people to have prejudice based on experience or bias. Doesn't mean the people are bad and ironically everyone knows that. It takes a certain level of enlightenment and intelligence not to group people together because even people who claim to be civilised can be ferocious when their prejudice comes home to meet them. |

Missy89: Lmao...not interested in that anymore, Miss Big Head. Apparently, I read somewhere that your Ondo folks despise the Ijebus that most. Why's that? - please educate me. And from my scholarship, I think Ijebus are somewhat historically closer to a few Yoruba subgroups in Ondo. For example: every time I read about Ijebu arts and crafts, they're always compared to Owo's. Most scholars allude to the similarities between the two. Then you have Mahin/Ilaje who're also somewhat close to Waterside Ijebu and Itsekiris. Let's turn the thread into a history session. I wanna see if your knowledge of Yoruba history is as extensive as what you know about international politics. And I hope you don't hate Ijebus as well. |
