Six months on since more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls were kidnapped, Alicia Keys is bringing their plight back into the public arena.

The singer-songwriter helda protest in New Yorkto raise awareness about the 219 Nigerian schoolgirls who remain missing after being kidnapped byBoko Haram militants in April.

Advocate: Nigeria must be pressured to free schoolgirls

Keys kicked off a protest with 30 others at the consulate general of Nigeria, holding signs that read"We Are Here" and "Safe Schools Now!"

Theychanted"bring backour girls" as New Yorkers walked upthe street during lunch hour, while others stoppedto capture photos andvideo.

Keys, who is pregnant, said inan interview that she felt touched to take action since she is a mother. Her son, Egypt, turned four yesterday.

Keys was joined at the protest byher husband, producer-rapper SwizzBeatz.

The parents and other relatives of the missing 219 school girls complain that they have been left to rely on a diet of rumour from the media and a long list of unfulfilled promises from the politicians, BBC reported.

"The government must do more to get the girls back," says Muhammad Yahaya, whose teenage daughter Yana was seizedfrom the school byBoko Haram militants.

There"s nothing wrong with celebrities and people world over joining to call for the release of those girls. its normal in issues of global interest. But it is very bad that people on whose land the girls were kidnapped chose to use it as an opportunity to achieve some political point; trying to discredit the govt. The question i would want to ask is, to whom is that call directed at; the govt or boko haram? its obvious that the BBOG group in Nigeria solely direct their call to the president instead of the kidnappers of the girls . the girls are not in Aso Rock now. that shows what their interest is . not that they care about these girls but they are simply capitalizing on the situation

Ezekwesili goofed real big time! Her protests against the government over the chibok girls was misplaced.

The protest should have been against Boko Haram!

#bringbackourgirls, exonorated Boko Haram and their sponsors and heaped the blame on the federal government.

Perhaps, you did not know that WAEC as a body under the Min of Education wrote a letter to the state Governor for the girls to take their exams at Maiduguri for security reasons.

The govermor refused and promised security.

Who is the mole that arranged the kidnap? How did Boko Haram know the number of girls and thus made adequate arrangement to tale them all?

Trust me, I love and repect Oby, but #freeourgirls would had made more impact. The heat would had been on the BH, their sponsors and sypathisers.
