Ex-SAAF technician held over rightwing plans - report

Johanesburg - A former SA Air Force technician has been arrested for trying to supply weapons to a right-wing extremist group, the Weekend Argus reported on Sunday.

The 46-year-old Brackenfell, Cape Town man had a stock of munitions and wanted to "sponsor" the extremists, but was intercepted before he could carry out his plan, Hawks spokesperson Captain Paul Ramaloko told the publication.

Ramaloko declined to name the group, or say how many weapons it found in the confiscated stockpile.

He confirmed the man worked for the air force for over two decades.

Ramaloko could not be reached by Sapa for comment on Sunday.

According to the newspaper, the man's online CV states he began his career as an armament technician in 1989, arming and disarming the air force’s Cheetah jets as well as "handling, packaging, storage and transportation of ammunition and explosives in the SAAF".

He claimed to also be a member of the air force’s bomb disposal team, a maintenance planner for the Gripen and Hawk fighter jets, and an explosives manager.

The newspaper reported that he expressed unpatriotic sentiments online, writing on his LinkedIn profile: "I need a sponsored job in aviation with visa 457 URGENTLY PLEASE." A 457 visa is an Australian work visa that allows skilled professionals to work in the country temporarily.

He added: "I love my studies... but i hate my
country... wish i can emigrate to Canada or
Australia."

The man is due to appear in the Kuils River Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Pretoria - A scrap yard owner in Pretoria was killed when a mortar, believed to date back to World War II, exploded when he was dismantling it on Monday morning.

The man’s stomach was blown open, said an eNCA reporter at the scene. At least one other person was seriously injured.

The reporter also said there are three other explosives at the scene.

The police’s bomb squad was on the scene.

A police officer told the Times that the destruction was “huge” and the mortars appear to be about 110mm in size.

The officer said the bombs were often found on the hills bordering Atteridgeville and Saulsville which were used as a bombing range by the then South African Defence Force during WWII.

People say that cause of the corruption surrounding the F-35 programme.

That notion will change once it hits the battle space.

We'll have to wait and see. At the launch of Queen Elizabeth II aircraft carrier, the brits had to use a "mock-up", instead of the original plan of having the Fighter do a fly over.

The programme is already fraught with multiple problems and corruption issues.

But that's the nature of weapon systems development programmes.

There's always gonna be those questioning whether the amount of money being invested in the programme is worth it or not.

Also the delays aren't something new nor unique. I'm one of those whom still believes, there's something sinister behind the criticism.

One lone air force man acting alone is NO threat, he does not have world class terrorism training and has no powerful sleeper cells network and no fifth columnist cells in the South African air force to coordinate and execute strategies.

If South Africa has 25 million Islamic faithfuls as citizens among your 50 million population, and 25,000 Islamic faithfuls as soldiers including 3 star Generals in your 50,000 man army, your country will pooh pooh in your boxer shorts when Jihadist terrorism shows up with suicide bombers ready to die for their spiritual beliefs. Algeria with her might and intelligence could not prevent it from starting full blown but stopped it after many years of battle.

The big test of the South African nation's capability to defeat unconventional threats was the war against Rhino poachers which led to a call for help from ordinary Botswana when the entire South African security system failed.

Stop claiming you can score grade A in an examination you have never been educated to write, a subject you have ZERO knowledge of.

Still pretending rhino poaching is not on the decrease?

In any case, this is actually how you deal with insurgents- you get rid of them before they can establish comprehensive networks and arsenals - this mans arrest is just one of many over the years.

Maybe if nigeria was the same, they wouldnt end up with the situation where the Nigerian Army is boko harams biggest arms supplier grin

The F-35 is over-rated in my opinion. The Rafale is a more capable ground attack fighter than the F-35. It's only draw back is it's less powerful engine which pumps out 18,000IB of thrust, when compared with the 20,000IB for the eurofighter typhoon.

First, the F-35 is going to be one of the cheapest per airframe of the last 2 decades of f American fighter development

Second, clearly you don't know about the isane IR that the F-35 has... I am at work at the moment, but I will post links when I get back

Rhino poaching you keep denying, but we have posted 101 times here that SANDF, SAAF, 21 Battalion and special forces were involved in the war, yet you keep denying, until Botswana was begged by Jacob Zuma on his knees to help save South African Rhinos by removing them from your country to hide them in a foreign land after ALL South African security and military forces failed to protect them on homeland soil after many years of frustration in the hands of local hunter Rhino horn thieves.

Clean and clear, South Africa has failed it's big test of unconventional security threat.

You cannot destroy sleeper cells and fifith columnists easily when you have them in the right numbers with the right training, they are secret enemies, SA could not break the ordinary cells of Rhino poachers living in your country and those crossing border from Mozambique, why don't your Rangers, Police, Military, and Intelligence services penetrate their secret networks and destroy them before they grew powerful enough and defeated the whole South Africa? Then now that you know they are there, whey not penetrate their cells network and wipe tghem out since all these years?

Pretoria should sweat and pass that simple home test first, before we listen your stories about how you can do what you have clearly failed at doing even with American special forces that flew in tho help you in the fight against poachers.

You don't have 25 million Islamists because your country is mostly christain, but you have poachers, that is your own test....try pass it by re-sitting the exam as you have already failed at your first attempt.

Nigerian Navy Concludes Small Arms Competition
October 20, 2014 - Uncategorized - Tagged: Africa, Africa Defence, African Defense, African Military, Nigeria
The Nigerian Navy Friday [October 17] concluded it’s week long small arms firing competition which held in Ikpayongo, Gwer west local council of the state with a renewed commitment to protect the nation’s territorial waters.

The event, according to the Naval authorities, was aimed at getting the best in terms of shooting and other gun handling activities expected of officers and men of the navy.

Spectators who witnessed the closing ceremony were appalled when the three military service chiefs and the representative of the inspector general of police could not shut down a single firing plate during the novelty shooting exercise, which the state governor, Gabriel Suswam, also participated in.

The chief of army staff, Major General Kenneth Tobias Minima, Adesola Amosu , Usman Jibrin partook in the exercise.

However, the junior officers who participated in the closing exercise did not only perform excellently but impressed the audience with their precision in shooting, building confidence in the ability of the navy to counter any eventuality.

This must have informed the chief of naval staff vice admiral, Jubrin Usman, to call for an improved precision shooting against moving target even as he commended the competitive commands for their gallantry.

He also commended the chief host and state governor, Gabriel Suswam for making the event a success with his logistic support.

Suswam noted with appreciation what he described as undeniable responsibility of the navy, which is the protection of the nation’s oil assets and communication gadgets on the high sea

As reported by Msugh Ityokura for The Guardian

First, we have posted quotes from the man running the entire AP operation in Kruger - he clearly states that the SANDF is only there for support

Second, we arrest poachers on a weekly basis

Third, poaching is on the decrease

Fourth, we dont have large groups of fith columnists in the SANDF as we arrest them before they can get set up.

Your Intelligence networks are pathetic and unable to identify said "fifth columnists", indeed your intelligence agents are of such poor quality that they can be defeated by simple South African Customs Officials.

Yet again agugbugug, you have no argument.

Is this guy even serious?

Again, this is not a military concern.

Its nature conservation.

Now the massive surge of piracy on your coast - that is a military concern. "COIN" masters who cannot even secure their coast line, or borders, or towns, or countryside. Wow, sure thing Nigeria.

You have how many men deployed? An entire division?

We have 250 in Kruger, living on a base that has been there since the old days, doing border protection duties.

You are truly desperate. I would be too, if my government had just negotiated a cease-fire with genocidal islamists

This is VERY interesting.

Specialist simulator company ThoroughTec will be supplying simulators for four versions of the South African Army’s new Badger infantry fighting vehicles.

ThoroughTec has provided Patria driver training systems for Sweden and Croatia, giving it useful experience for the Badger, which is based on the Finnish Patria design. Denel Land Systems is currently building 238 Badger 8x8 vehicles for the Army at its Lyttelton premises in Centurion. These will be delivered over ten years and will partially replace the Army’s Ratel fleet.

ThoroughTec is no stranger to working with the South African National Defence Force as it has supplied all South African Army driver trainers including for the Ratel ZT-3, Rooikat, Casspir, Olifant, Mamba and Army trucks and cars. Although Thoroughtec has separate driver and turret simulators these can be linked together to train armoured vehicle crews, for example.

The Durban-based company’s simulator products have also found favour with the Australian, Swedish and Croatian militaries where its advanced driver training systems are currently in service. All simulation software is designed in-house, including the physics engines, motion platforms etc.

“The shift in global defence imperatives since the end of the Cold War has left many militaries struggling to strike a balance in their defence posture. Torn between the dynamic reality of low-intensity, asymmetric and peace support type operations and the persistent need to maintain credible conventional forces, governments have recognised the vital importance of Simulator based training as an effective, efficient means of managing this dilemma,” ThoroughTec said.

Badger

“Our simulators are solutions for militaries looking to economically train large numbers of personnel on a range of vehicles and systems,” said David Cooke, ThoroughTec military business development manager.

“In a world where the bottom line all too often dominates training priorities, Cyberwar simulators are an affordable, effective alternative to traditional training and force preparation methods. They allow militaries to build up reserves of trained personnel and maintain learnt skills, ultimately maintaining force preparedness while cutting training costs and radically reducing wear on prime mission equipment,” he added.

Thoroughtec specialises in mining simulators and other ground vehicle simulators. It is headquartered in Durban but has offices in Chile, the United States, Canada, Russia and Australia and employs around 200 people.

I have posted proof that the Nigerian government has accepted terms from Boko Haram

If it is free news on google, then it wont be too hard to post it.

You say its an SANDF mission? What is the Operation name? Every operational deployment has a name... what is it? I can list all the operation names for all of our deployments. And AP duties are not one of them.

The current deployment in Kruger falls under Operation Corona - Border duties.

And even by only providing support we have born fruit

Colonel Bolelo confirms that more than 10 suspected poachers had been killed with more than 56 arrested since the SANDF's deployment in this region. The killing of poachers was a result of a shoot-out when the rhino killers attacked SANDF members patrolling the park. Fortunately for the SANDF, the military did not lose a single member in the shoot-out with poachers. Colonel Bobelo says many of the poachers are former Mozambican soldiers and are well trained to fight. Within three months of the SANDF's arrival at the Kruger National Park, rhino poaching cases dropped from 40 in March to just two in June. But poachers always device new strategies and return for more horns.

http://www.dod.mil.za/operations/poaching/rhino.htm

Again, I remind you that the head of the SANParks Anti-Poaching Formation categorically stated that the SANDF were only providing SUPPORT, it was not their mission. It is illegal for the SANDF to perform law-enforcement further than 5km from the Border in South Africa*

*if i remember my undergrad crim law correctly

Yet again, you run from the facts. You try distract us with your opinion, but we can all see through your thinly veiled BS.

Again, I remind you that the head of the SANParks Anti-Poaching Formation categorically stated that the SANDF were only providing support, it was not their mission.

Yes Boko Haram terms we accepted cease fire so NAF stopped bombing the hell out of them and NA suspended the big final offensive.

Bokos asked for cease fire when we started a 3 simultaneous attacks on 3 towns in Adamawa. BBC clearly says Boko Haram declared UNILATERIAL cease-fire before Nigeria accepted those terms.

Like I said, your posts are not worth replying, if you want to twist facts for the fun of it, I will log out and allow you to keep entertaining yourself, it's a free world !

Where does it say that the US is sending a team to learn from you? Where did it say they sent a team? Where does it say that they are using your techniques?

agaugust:

America was here few weeks ago to learn how Nigeria became the first country in the world to defeat Ebola Virus, the USA in now struggling with Ebola and using the technique they learned from Abuja and Lagos to fight the disease, people are dying now in the USA, Nigeria to the rescue of the super power.

We consented to their demand for cease-fire which they declared UNILATERALLY, go use a dictionary for the meaning of UNILATERAL, and for military purposes it is a less shameful way of temporary surrender by the losing side.

Boko Haram asked for Negotiation same way South Africa asked Cuba for negotiations when defeat was imminent, and Cuba accepted, most warring sides in war accept ceasefire most times in war history, go find out, ignorance is your own Ebola.

SADF = SANDF = BOKO HARAM LEVEL tongue tongue

I am giving you homeland information as an American, a first team was in Nigeria, details not given, they came to learn how Nigeria beat Ebola.

I have posted the plan to come in that source and i am telling you an advance team came.

Not everything on earth is on internet in full detail.
