DieVluit:It is a good thing that Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe do not seem to have any territorial ambitions, because if they chose to annex a few South African provinces, the defence force would be hard-pressed to stop them, especially if Lesotho decided to get into the action. agaugust: Let's see Google dispute at least 90% of these (valid) claims: - The SANDF ranks above the NAF - The SAAF is better equipped, more experienced than the NA - The SAN is better equipment, better trained and more experienced than the NN - The South African Special Forces are better trained, better recognised than the Nigerian Special Forces - South Africa has the most advanced homegrown weapons in Africa Google me facts to counter my facts and paste links.... if not, I will haunt you with this list till the end of 2014. 1 Like |

DieVluit: If robbing other counties of their legally proved land is your own idea of national greatness, sorry Nigeria is not a robber, there are honest ways to be great. Stealing is pride in South Africa, no wonder your SANDF was robbing Congolese diamond mines with joy and glee . 2 Likes |

ActivateKruger: A large and long overdue review of South Africa's defence capabilities and needs, now in the phase of public consultation, paints a grim picture. The country has too few fighting men and women, often with old or useless equipment, often without the discipline required to constitute an effective fighting force, little ability to deploy them rapidly, little by way of heavy equipment to back them up and a severely limited ability to communicate with them once they are in the field. |

DieVluit: We also build MRAPS, the Proforce PF1 is an MRAP, the IKRI is also an MRAP. Dummy, the Igirigi is an LAV with a ballistics protection of Stanag level 2, and boy are we happy with it. Our IGIRIGI doesn't go to some AAD show, it goes straight to the field where it is needed. Like a true Armoured personnel carrier. 2 Likes

ActivateKruger: Shortcomings stretch from basic training to intelligence capability, leaving the defence force if not defenceless as such, at least easily outmatched by a sufficiently large multifront attack using chemical or biological weapons, heavily armoured units or any combination of these. And that is the formal, written version. In private, analysts and military professionals across the board scoff at the idea that South Africa could defend itself from any serious, determined, concerted attack almost as much as they scoff at the idea that such an attack could take place in the foreseeable future. "We are not going to fight a conventional war in the short-to-medium term," said Len le Roux, a retired major general and consultant to the Institute for Security Studies on defence policy. But if national defence remains the real job of the defence force, the defence review says, then somebody will have to pay for it. Wouldn't care either state you are. |
