@op @all, I really don't see what this gig is all about, dissing courses, it's very childish. Same goes for the MOD who rushed this to FP. You see the reason we are where we are today as a nation is cos we don't encourage sub -specialisation, rather we believe in the 'jack of all trade' mentality. If I choose to study soil sciences for 10years, how is that ur headache, are u the one paying my fees or my wages? That's why we keep struggling with the erosion in eastern states till tomorrow cos those given the contracts are square pegs in round holes to say the least. Every discipline and every one is as important as the next. 10 Likes |

0coded80: Honestly, this is an unintelligent post. First you yapped about the essence of University education not being to seek employment, then you ended your argument saying "a 1st-first from a reputation university in any of those course funny to you will get better employment than those that study a overhyped course with low grade". Apart from the erroneous grammatical construction in your post, I had to quote you verbatim so you see the contradiction in it. Truth is, irrespective of how you may choose to see it, some courses are more marketable than others. How can someone be studying Primary Education? God help us all. 2 Likes |

Forget about the marketability of the course and it relevance and ask yourself how many people applied for the COURSE.... You would excel in a course only and when you have passion for it.. I help check peoples admission and I can say that 97 percent of people admitted into the above named never thought of studying the aforementioned COURSES. Naija! |

kozaic:On DRAMA you made a big mistake because you lack an understanding of how the first school of drama came about, in Ibadan, and later in Ife. In Ibadan it is called Theatre Arts. In Ife it is called Dramatic Arts. They do almost the same thing, and are reputed to be pace setters, having produced the best graduates and practisioners in that field. The bottom line is this, universities may choose to give different names to departments without the courses being offered altered. What UI and OAU call theatre arts and dramatic arts respectively, is called performing arts in Unilorin. On MUSIC, I believe you reserve your comment because you think it is a waste of money and time studying music in the higher institution when there are people that didn't even go to university are dominating "music" today. A musician, both those that studied it school and those that know about it are different from the Psquares, Dbanj, Tuface, etc, of today. The likes of Tuface, may I surprise you, are not musicians, but entertainers. Can you compare the music of Psquare with that of Dare Art Alade, who read music? Dare knows the nitty gritty of the art, having learnt it from not just Unilag but also from his father, Art Alade. Can you compare TerryG with Lagba? Can TerryG identify musical notes? 4 Likes |

Nigerians with their mentality!!!!! going to university is not about looking for employment all about, it for u to have knowledge to be able to reproduce to d society. A 1st-first from a reputation university in any of those course funny to u will get better employment in a multinational company than those that study a over-hyped course with low grade. I pity those of u that think going to a university is all about getting employment.[/quote] Am guessing if one is gainfully employed and paying taxes one is not reproducing back to the society. Plz u guys need to step out of nigeria. |

kozaic:please just stop advertising your 'moroness' on the internet. So you want every Nigerian student to study engineering, medicine and law right? because I guess those are the choices your mum gave you, leading to success. Universities in the west now offers single courses about popular people. Education is about mental cognition and alertness, not actually centered about the target of study. Please be advised! 5 Likes |

0coded80:This is an ignorant post. I actually feel like telling you to shutup but that is rude and quite early. What is knowledge if you cant convert it to a source of income? wallow in misery in your house? For those that study these courses in nigeria are only wasting their valauble time unless ofcox their parents can sort them out somewhere. Most of them end up in fields far from what they studied. The only people that will support the above courses are those who studied them. 2 Likes |

EARLY CHILDHOOD. This is very wonderful especially now that most women are career-driven. They'll love to enrol their kids in pre-nursery or leave them in a professional child care centre. Learning about kids behaviour, what they like and how to control them isn't a waste. Bad tempered people can learn how to control themselves around kids. PRIMARY EDUCATION This is not just teaching primary school students. Do you know the meaning of primary? It means first. What kids are taught is what they know, so, more care is to be taken at this stage. Studying how to teach toddlers isn't a waste. It's a knowledge that will make you act professional. DRAMA Whether drama or theatre arts. Nigerian entertainment industry is never failing if you're really talent. Getting a professional to teach you will make you perform better. FISHERY. There's still high consumption of fish in nigeria. Fish farming and other learning fields associated with it is an eye opener for someone that has the zeal to make money. Having a fish farm while studying is a good advantage ADULT EDUCATION So many uneducated adults are willing to go back to school but they need professionals. Also, old people need nanny and care. Opening a center for these won't be a waste. HISTORY AND INTERNATIONAL STUDIES EDU. Having good knowledge of Nigerian history, foreign affairs, etc can open so many doors for you. MUSIC Creative people won't lose anything. The world will never stop demanding for musicians and music managers. 6 Likes |
