I think people need to be patients for some several months to how real is this. Dangote has been known to crash prices of items several times in the past run it's competition out of business. After the aim is achieved prices now to up.

I'm not saying that's what's going on now, but one can never tell bases on the man's antecedents.

But of course, anyone that has a project to do better buy as many cements as they can when the price reduction is actualized.

This will also create some problem for sellers who have large stock of cement for sale.

Now for someone who has sourced his goods last week at N1550 to sell at N1650, then his customers come calling this morning with this kind of news, what will he do ?

This his cement propaganda of every 2 months is detrimental to dealers..

The news of Dangote 3X or 42.5 grade has not subsided then this one. God help us.

The days of middlemen hijacking cement price are over. Those were the days of too much money chasing few goods.(underproduction).

The middlemen now work for the manufacturers.

This is simply a market strategy by Dangote group in other to keep up with competitions however what i don't like is the fact that there are some misinformations on the news which i don't know whether its from from the nairaland reporter or from Dangote group. The real information is that there is a reduction in price of cement but not definitely 1000, the current price of cement is 1308 for 42.5 and 1150 for 32.5 for delivery by Dangote trucks to the distributors, so cement might still be sold at 1600 or 1700 by the retailers to the final consumers.I am writing from Obajana as i am a staff and also a dristributor, for the past one week after the rebate promotion there was no ATC as customers refused to buy Dangote cement as a result of high price. Thanks

We can expect this to be a permanent shift and just the first salvo in the price war about to hit the industry. Dangote's Ibeshe plant phase 2 is about to come on stream with another 6mt per annum while BUA group is bringing fresh 3mt too. Other players are still ramping up production and we can expect at least 50% oversupply of the Nigerian market by the end of this current round of capacity expansions.

With oversupply and the govts not taking the bait on building concrete roads, the manufacturers can only use price to secure market share and, hopefully, stimulate demand. Other companies will react with their own pricing and ultimately the abnormal super profits the industry has enjoyed since Dangote came to the scene will normalise.

This single price move has wiped out about 50% of Dangote's 100% markup though we should expect that doubling Ibeshe's capacity and other moves like securing gas for all his plants and selling excess power production to the national grid will result in compensating economies of scale.

Bottom line: expect a significant moderation of Dangote Cement Plc' superlative profits, likely correction of the stock price and fewer collapsed buildings .
