As I said in one of the earlier posts, at the start of the project I left many decisions making to the supervising building contractor ( some say engineer). With no previous experience in house building, many decisions were taken by the supervising building contractor. With your years of contact with ''building contractor'' by trade and practice, they keep telling you number of houses they built in Victoria Island, Maryland , Yaba, Gbagada etc 30 years ago and still standing.

The building contractor said it is of no need since it one story building. But my subsequent project already on the way will have decking beam to cap all the block walls and connect column to column. Let me say hear most of what I know of house building is from Nairaland Property section and this very project.

In the picture ( another project coming ) below, I told the same building contractor to cast all the foundation block walls at DPC level. I got this idea from one of the building Gurus on this forum. Initially the builder said no need, I insisted and he agreed with me ( I pay the bill ---Joking ). For this reason I employ us all to encourage positive critique of building projects on the forum especially when it is being done by practicing building professionals, many of them on this forum. I will not mention names.

Note. The dimensions were given in millimeter on the plan, I converted them to meter.

Good evening, just for learning o..

I was about asking why there are no beams connecting columns to columns. It helps to transmit load. Secret beams are just meant to support the main beams when there's a big panel with no beams.

Besides, the secret beams don't look like they connect with each other.

Very good cost management doing both slabs same day.

We decked the two buildings together the same day. The total cost of decking is 2.8M, building One is twice the size ( surface area ) of building Two. Thus you estimate the cost of decking building One as 2/3 of the total cost.

As I said earlier, I am a mechanical engineer practicing in another industry, building professionals on this forum can help. If you can follow and study more building projects on this forum you definitely get some ideas. You can e-mail me for all the detailed costs of this project, I will send you the notepad where I recorded all the expenditures.

The estimated granite needed for the decking was 6 X 15 tonnes = 90 tones. We decided to buy 30 tonnes excess to be used later because price was less when buying more. After the decking we had more than 30 tonnes left.

Note------- The so called 15 tones ford tippers are actually less than 15 tonnes . A supplier once confided in me that they are 14 tonnes if loaded fully at Quarry and delivered the way it was loaded. Many suppliers are cheat, they secretly off load part of what was loaded from Quarry and show you waybill of 15 tonnes.

The suspended slab or decking for the water tank ( top of left staircase only ) is sized for maximum of three tanks for building One and two for building Two, we intend to install two tanks for each building. There will be no tank on the kitchen decking , we decked the kitchen solely for fire outbreak protection. Kitchens being the most likely place building fire often occur. The kitchen suspended slabs would be roofed as if no decking were there.
