Good morning class! Hope your night was good? *smiles* . The lecture starts now. If you are sitting for jamb. You need not to be affraid. Just read as if you don't know how to pray, and pray as if you don't know how to read. Sounds funny? I will post the curriculum here soon. Just keep your hands on your tab.

GENETICS
Genetics, may be described as the science that deals with questions and answers on inheritance.
This is the inheritance of traits or characters, e.g height, skin colour, weight e.t.c which are transmitted from parents to offsprings during sexual reproduction. The ways and manners by which these characters are inherited from parents is HEREDITY. As a matter of fact it is a common knowledge that after sexual reproduction, the resulting offsprings tends to look like their parent in one or more ways. It may be to their immediate parent or grandparent. You as a person their are some character you portrays which so much resembles that of your parents.

I know you have been taught this in your primary school days. But notwithstanding.
The cell is the basic unit of the body and the study of heredity is centred on the NUCLEUS of a living cell. However, not much was mentioned in your primary and early secondary school days about its hereditary properties. Within the nucleus of the cell are materials that control the heredity of the individual. We should remember that only the chromosome is involved in heredity which is determined during the process of meiosis during gametogenesis. Gametogenesis is when the spermatozoa and the ovum fuse together then mitosis will take place dividing the somatic cell to form the zygote. This are the stages of formation of a baby.
Gametogenesis -> zygote -> foetus -> baby. A pregnancy is abortable easily at the zygote/ early foetus stage.

I will like to expantiate more on cell. Because its just a common topic in jamb past questions. So.

It is important that you know the structure of animal and plant cells and are able to label the different parts. It is a favourite with examiners to have diagrams of cells requiring labelling in exams
There are manysimilarities and differences between animal and plant cells.
Make sure you know these.

By mitosis a cell splits to create two identical copies of the original cell.
In meiosis cells split to form new cells with half the usual number of chromosomes, to produce gametes for sexual reproduction.

To avoid confussion. I will like to expantiate on mitosis and mieosis. Read this.

Meiosis
Meiosis is a different kind of cell division. It is used to produce male and femalegametes. A human body cell contains46 chromosomesarranged in23 pairs. The gametes aresperm or eggs, and only containhalfas many chromosomes(23). This is why meiosis is sometimes calledreduction division.
Stages of meiosis
Atfertilisation, thenucleiof the sperm and an eggjointo form thezygote. The zygote contains 23 pairs of chromosomes - 23 single chromosomes from thesperm, and 23 single chromosomes from theegg, thereby creating the correct number of 46 chromosomes for all body cells. It also means the zygote contains a complete set of chromosomes from each parent.

Mitosis is a type ofcell division. Mitosis occurs wherever more cells are needed. It produces two new cells that are identical to each other, and to the parent cell. The process of growth and division is called thecell cycle.
The cycle starts as the number of organelles- the different parts of the cell - increases. This is to ensure that each of the two new cells receives copies of all the organelles.

Before a cell divides, its chromosomes are copied exactly. The DNA molecule is made of two strands. As each of the two strands separates, new strands are made along side each of them, there by making two new copies.

u missed the it bruh! Chromosomes are rod-shaped bodies found in the nucleus of a cell and in which genes are located. Y GENES are are units of inheritance composed of DNA and located in chromosome. But the 2nd question is sumhow confusing, because of the ' normally' b4 d question had it bin there is notin lyk normally b4 the question the answer will be E. Environment also deter character but normally its gene and hormones. Thanks. So 1. E 2. D

yes! Thats the answer. Am only tricking him mayb he will. Reason again and get the answer. Am just trying to throw trouble the exam will giv the jambites at him. I think the answer to the first question should be gene, but I choose chromosome since it goes in line with the explanation you gave of the difference between gene and chromosome. The answer to the second question is (E) that is gene and environment. Environment also affects the behavior/character expressed by an individual.

yes it shud b environment. But rid the question again. Jamb sed. 'normally' because normali z included d answer is hormone nd gene. Bruh those are jamb tricks. Take it or liv it. Nd 4 my xplanation rid again, and ask anytin that confuses u. Thanks.
