kolawaxxy:.....the best thing to do is to learn the practical aspect first....cos dats de main thing u must display....knowing only the names of the keys, the major nd sharps and all doz musical terms cant do no good without de skills... |

Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by Karleb(m): 3:03pm On Dec 05, 2014 |
@gameboi I just converted the audio and it worked but then... I couldn't really hear a thing you were playing on the keyboard, seems the phone you use to record it was more closer to the drum than the keyboard. However , that your drummer is badddd!!!! but why was he running sef? See these drummers ehn!? Summary: The audio was more of a drum tutorial than a keyboard tutorial. |
Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by gameboi: 3:28pm On Dec 05, 2014 |
@karleb I'll fix it. The low volume of the keyboard was 'cos of the combo I used. About the drummer ? That's my Junior brother. |

The Passing chord that is used when Moving to the fifth of any scale is derived from the 2-5-1 progression. In the key of F( F G A Bb C D E F), the second note(which is always a Minor) is G while the Fifth note is C. Hence the movement is Gminor - Cmajor- Fmajor. But when a passing chord should is added, it becomes 2-2maj-5-1. i.e, the Minor is changed to a major before moving to the fifth. Gminor- Gmaj-Cmaj-Fmaj. I've heard this passing chord being used in various songs and trust me, It doesn't sound bad . The other methods of moving to the fifth using passing chords are beyond the scope of this post 'cos it involves ear and brain work. 1 Like |

EstarKeys: Lol. So you are telling me as an amateur organist to begin by playing bach's contrapuntal pieces before learning basic things like reading music or even sight-playing. .. ? |

Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by EstarKeys(f): 7:25am On Dec 06, 2014 |
kolawaxxy:hey! Ur having a misconception here.wah am trying to say is that jux knowing the names of the note and all doz musical terms can do no goood.one has to combine it with the skills too.u will end up being a jerk when you can only identify the musical terms without knowing how to play it..look,i neva knew anythin about the keyboard before i started playing.not even a dime.i made use of my ears most.i play the keyboard up till today without knowing the chords am even progressing with...well,it depends on ur CHOICE |
Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by gameboi: 9:02am On Dec 06, 2014 |
@Estarkeys You're right but In My Opinion, the theorical aspect makes one more creative and gives the confidence to try out something new. I remember when I used to play only on keyC and keyF. Hmm! I quarrelled a Lot with the singers after service especially if they couldn't hold on to a particular key. Was it their fault? I had to stay-off playing the keyboard for 3months just to download E-books on playing the keyboard and learn the theorical aspect. When I returned? The rest is history. |
Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by zbone(m): 10:07am On Dec 06, 2014 |
gameboi:lol@ quarrelled with singers after service.. guy you wicked o, C and Fmajor, ur singers don't suffer sha. BTW your church keyboard no get transpose function? |
Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by Dramadiddy(m): 10:22am On Dec 06, 2014 |
zbone:gameboi r Estarkeys r right but the truth is that, if u knw theory, u can deal with people, but if u knw practical only, when ure with people u ll only b saying "the thing the thing"...practical jst applies to playing in functions, but when pple sit down to share knowledge, someone who knows practical only cant last 1 Like |

Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by gameboi: 10:52am On Dec 06, 2014 |
zbone:Lol do you know that awkward moment when the chorister changes to an unknown key and you're like ''which kind winchi be this one?'' then other choristers would be lost and you'd get exposed. The keyboard had a transpose function but most times, it would be tough to change keys in seconds. And as a good keyboardist the proper thing to do is to modulate. 1 Like |

Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by Dramadiddy(m): 11:39am On Dec 06, 2014 |
Psamuels:try and look for the cover of simple songs and learn...ur theory will help u understand how to play other songs, but if u dont know, still search for mre cover...like adele...e.g piano cover of adele's someone like you...by the time u learn how to play that, try and analyse the song with ur theory knowledge, u shd get a hold of it |

gameboi: gameboi:I remember when I was learning how to pick the key of a song, there was dis tym the singer finished singing the song, I still had not found the key, speak of embarrassing..... |
Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by gameboi: 6:25pm On Dec 06, 2014 |
zbone:hahaha! Lolz. when I found myself in such cases, I used to reduce the volume of the keyboard to the level where only I can hear it and then move my fingers over the keys. You need to see my face, I'd be seriousiy playing anything at that time . God knows I wasn't playing anything that relates at all, but It helped in avoiding the embarrassment |

Dramadiddy:Thankyou sir for opening up to help me.My question is about deminished chord, I know it but I don't know how to apply it in a song. Deminshed chord is gotten by lowering the third and fifth notes by a semi-tone. How is it applied in a song? |

Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by gameboi: 3:43pm On Dec 07, 2014 |
Karleb:the idea behind forming them is using tension and relief. You need to play a chord that sounds wicked to the ear and then move on to another chord that will appease the ear. If not, all eyes would be on you. Most times I do them instinctively Let's do it this way. I'll give some chords with a passing chord(in bold leters)in between, then you'll play it and tell me the chord that eases the tension. KeyF# Left Hand | Right Hand G# | G# C Eb Bb | Bb C# F D | Bb D F ------- | ----------- Fill in the ------- with a suitable chord. |
Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by Karleb(m): 4:41pm On Dec 07, 2014 |
