15 years to train 8 pilots undecided undecided

Pathetic!!!
SAAF took delivery of the first Gripens in 2008 and the last ones in September 2012.

What 15 years now?

Nigeria has 2 pilots.

Go lie to some else.

During the war in Angola South Africa had 250 fighter aircraft, after the war or should say following the 98 defence review the numbers were reduced or replaced with 50 advanced fighter planes.

If what you're is the case SAAF would have 36 Rooivalks, taking delivery of indigenous twin engine fighter jets, maintaining nuclear weapons, developing ICBMs and more!!!

GET IT?

Most of the 250 fighters aircraft in SAAF Bush war era were post-World War II era Impala useless jets that always ran away when Cuban boys MiG-21 showed up. SAAF massive squadrons of Impala jets were so useless they had only guns, no missiles, so they flew around fighting againt mere Cuban helicopters.

One Gripen will waste 50 Impalas in one hour

Yes its a totally new aircraft witch is based on the mig 21, just like the olifant mbt is totally different from the centurion tank.

Olifant and Centurion tanks have the same old engine.

MiG-29 has a new engine different from that of MiG-21.

Do you know dictionary meaning of 'Based on' ?

The photo with yellow lines showing shape of JF-17 has deemolished your moroniic argument anyway

That's because the impala was a trainer aircraft similar to the Hawk, but had a secondary light attack role.

The impalas were also used like attack helicopters, and were a nightmare of enemy helicopter pilots.

South Africa had 250 fighter aircraft during the war.

One Gripen will waste the enitre Nigerian air force in one day.

SAAF acquired GBU-12(s) to use on the Gripen.

Low level air defence, the inner tier of the layered air defence network is protected by CRAM capable guns.
With the Skyshield important infrastructure or bases can be fully protected against airborne threats.

Nigeria is buying NOTHING!!!! What are you hoping to achieve with 2 pilots.

How many CRAM units will you buy? How many will you have to spread around all army, navy, and air force bases, as well as different army battalions on different battle fronts? How many locations, how many CRAM guns which you won't get until year 2017 to 2020 as SANDF is broke now.

Dreamland of delusions, that's where you live dude.

The contract is already signed meaning work is in progress. Similar to the Badger IFV.

This projects are fund.

Go figure how many Oerlikon twin barrel guns South Africa has.

But you signed the contracts in 1999. It means from the time you signed the contracts, you must have sent officers to train on the platform.

So, from 1999-2014, you only managed to train 8 people to fly the Gripen.

"It does get more pathetic than this.".......... by this I mean, only 12 SAAF Gripens are operational.

The Gripen E/F will be 5th generation aircraft.

The NG on the prototype meant next generation, that generation is the 5th Generation.

The variant you fly is old. It is a 4th Gen Aircraft, infact going by the comparison with the JF-17, it should be rated as 3.7 gen.

The E/F is 4.5, not 5 Gen. Only the F-22, F-35 and T-50 are 5th Gen.

No, you tell us how many of your 30 year old Oerlikon twin barrel guns are being upgraded to CRAM.

SANDF is so poor each Gripen jet carries less than one missile each, precisely 0.96 missile per jet, and your Valour frigates Excoet missile shortage is also bad.

Do you know the meaning of missile poverty? Ask SAAF and SAN

PGM: GBU-12 II Paveway laser guided bombs.Pods:
1.Lightening III LDP.
2. DJRP (Digital joint reconnaissance pod).Missiles:
1. IRIS-T SRAAM.
2. A-Darter SRAAM receiving final qualifications in "the next weeks". This will replace the IRIST-T SRAAM.
3. BVR: Likely Meteor BVRAAM as an interim solution as the Marlin BVRAAM is developed. Going for flight tests early next year.
The Al tariq glide bomb is also integrated on the Hawk LIFT.
