The roads around there are in good shape but what I think is happening is the huge influx of people trying to access the town at once. This xmas is very hot.. FreeGlobe: |

Schematics:Yes, especially from PH axis. Yes the roads are good but the round about is too small, it needs to be expanded. I heard there was a trailer accident there sometime ago. |

biafranqueen: Unlike Onitsha/Awka where you can simply use the middle of the expressway (if you check the median of the Enugu/Onitsha express way it is very wide), doing a railway from Awka to Nnewi or Nnewi to Onitsha will require a lot of "right of way" or land issues. What they are planning is something similar to Fashola's Lagos/Badagry light rail (only difference is Enugu/Onitsha Expressway) will be used. 5 Likes |
Re: Anambra light of the nation, eastern economy power house. by OreMI22: 8:50pm On Dec 30, 2014 |
HappyJoe: I think the should build the Awka to Onitsha line first using the expressway median. The would require no bridges and should be cheap and affordable. Then as the Awka-Onitsha line begins to earn revenue, government will deploy some of that revenue to build the expensive Onitsha-Nnewi line which requires long flyover bridges for go over the built up areas. But at least then, they will have more revenue coming from the already functioning Awka-Onitsha line. A 13 kilometer spur can run from the refinery at Otuocha to meet the Awka -Onitsha line at Nteje. This way, people can easily go to work from Onitsha and Awka to Otuoch while agricultural produce from that area can also easily be transported to Onitsha or Awka. 7 Likes |

OreMI22: A lot has to be considered before even the Awka to Onitsha end starts. Anambra's budget this year is N164 billion, that won't be enough to cover capital intensive projects like light rail, in addition to serious road construction like the 47 kilometer Aguleri/Oil rig road (for comparison, Lagos to Sagamu is about 60 kilometers). So the project will have to be a PPP, the question is will then be, is there a proven business case for the project? How financially viable is it? Obiano is a banker, so he'll understand how to make the case. When the case is made, then investors can be brought in. A project of this nature will not break-even for many years, if it gets off the ground. But as a practical matter - how much traffic moves to and fro Awka to Onitsha and will the light rail totally displace commuter transport? These are questions Obiano's people must answer. As for the Rivers monorail, I think it is a classical white elephant. It isn't economically viable (standard light rail would have been more appropriate like Lagos & it does not lead to anywhere). Anambra should steer clear of such projects. On the balance, I think the Anambra Airport project will be more viable (and is cheaper, costs $150 million). The success of the Asaba airport shows there's a lot of demand for aviation services in Anambra - & and airport with out the Niger Bridge bottleneck and the stress of passing through Enugu (federal road is terrible) will be welcome. Also note that the airport is to be tied to the oil refinery. It is to serve as a hub for aviation fuel. Don't mind the tag "Cargo Airport", Owerri is a "Cargo Airport", but handles mainly passenger traffic. 4 Likes |

HappyJoe: You are looking at it from the point of view of building it tomorrow. Which is wrong. This Anambra light rail project may cost N30-50 billion naira. Which is definitely unaffordable for Anambra. Therefore, You have to roll it out over 5 to 10 years period and spend about N5 billion naira on it every year. But the earlier you start planning for it and implementing your plans, the closer you get to the day when it will be commissioned. Even in America, it took the city of Atlanta about 10 years to build its light rail metro line. It's definitely not a quick fix project. 1 Like |

One thing i dont like about this Anambra governor is his clannish inclination, most of the capital projects are going in the north and the speed of their flagoff will tell you he is in haste to develop his hometown first. His village people have overtaken government house eating point n kill with red wine and champagne, everybday before the newscastters start reeling out the news what his wife did and is doing will be the first in the bulletin. A flyover need to link MCC with Oraifite Street, Awada. A flyover need also to like Atani Rd and Uga Street, then dauliza the Atani Rd. Nnewi-Ozubulu-Ihembosi-Okija Rd need to be dualized and a flyover will connect it with Onicha-Owerre Expressway. Nnewi new Rd need to be dualize because that is the official entrance to the city. Siting the airport inside that forest there will kill the economic value of it, the airport should be sited around Oka so that it will be in the center of Asaba-Enugwu-Owerre, that Aguleri site is off and isolated, the land should be used for corn plantation or animal husbandry. No Onicha or Nnewi residents will use that far airport inside thick forest when Asaba is even closer in less than 5mins. HappyJoe: |

BuddahMonk: Buddah, Please pipe low on that side. You will touch nerves that will misunderstand you. There is a reason why Awka not Onitsha became the capital of Anambra state- LAND I don't think the governor is being clannish. Take a look at Anambra map now, you can clearly see that zone is perhaps the only place left with ample land. Tell me a place at Okija or Oraifite that you can find 4 KM of fallow land which can be used for an airport runway without massively relocating villages or spending billions to fill up swaps. Perhaps the only place you can site at Okija will be the Okija to Umunankwo or Atani axis. Which is a swamp as you know already. Nonethe less, Peter Obi is trying to connect a road from Ozubulu to Atani through that swamp costing billions of naira and many bridges to do. Most of Anambra peoples' future buildings and projects will simply be sited in Asaba, unless serious conscious effort is made to open up the land in Anambra north through adequate infrastructure so that development can continue on Anambra soil. If you really want an egalitarian state which has a modern capital and Onitsha is opened up for further extension, you have no choice than to develop Awka towards Otuocha and build infrastructure so that Onitsha can expand towards Umunya and Nsugbe. Then you would agree with the governor and Peter Obi that it is the only area of our state where we can still find 20 virgin square kilometers to build a modern Anambra without paying so heavily on acquiring land and fighting people who you will inevitably demolish their houses. 8 Likes

BuddahMonk: Guy,wetuo obi. I hasn't gotten to that. We are all Anambrarians and so long his team is performing which will benefit everyone of us we don't need to flinch. Ngige is an Idenmili guy like me,when he was the governor he tarred most Idenmili roads neglecting most parts of Anambra, especially the north and that was unfair. Igbo sii na emee nwata ka emee ibie obi ya adia mma. Most of these people you are accusing Obiano of favouring were actually hired by Obi. Believe me,Obiano isn't a bigot. Secondly,Anambra has a lot of challenges due to the population and several emerging towns and we need to spread development but we cant do it in one day. Nwanne, these things take time and a lot of hardwork. We can criticize and keep him on his toes but we must also learn to be patient and persevere. 1 Like |

Nedu09: You are actually a sick guy. A complete Anuofia! My post was at 4:09am and the guy copied my post and posted on the governor's facebook page 10 hours ago at 6.30am. Prove that the same thing was posted anywhere on the internet before 4:09am ! I am happy my ideas are found worthy to be brought to His Excellency's notice. That is totally why i waste time looking at Anambra and seeking better ways of doing things based on what i have learnt from other countries. i had previously lamented the lack of email or electronic access to Anambra governors, which i thank God Obiano maintains a facebook page and Twitter account. I am devoted to helping chart a new course for Anambra and Igboland in general. The major difference between Nigeria's stagnated development and other countries such as Brazil,China,Mexico etc is that they have a pure vision of where they want to go and money to support it,while we have lots and lots of money but lack vision in Nigeria. I am sure you are the person that copied my post. I thank you for bringing it to the governor's attention, but SHAME ON YOU, for not giving credit to the originator of the idea. 5 Likes |

OreMI22: You couldn't have said it any better; Those northerners will play a big role in Anambra development. They have so many things the central and south doesn't..i.e lands and a fertile one at that, oil, and a large body of water. You better be nice to them and thread with caution. Do you know how many hecters of land they have donated to the government and investors. 2 Likes |
Re: Anambra light of the nation, eastern economy power house. by Nobody: 10:40pm On Dec 30, 2014 |
BuddahMonk: I have replied and explained in detail why modern airports are sited at least 30 miles from inner cities. If I were the chief engineer behind this project, I'd recommend siting it at least 50 miles from Akwa and other major towns; right deep inside the forest where there is no development. Some people would think I'm crazy; call my immediate resignation! After 15-20 yrs, you will come and thank me so much for doing that! Days are gone when airports were sited in close proximity to major cities/towns. Abuja Airport is a classical example of this modem remote siting; the only major airport in Nigeria that is sited at least 35-40 miles from major inner towns. Back then, Abuja locals will complain and cry fowl; raining cuss on why would any sensible government site airport of this size and importance right deep in the forest? IBB and his government then will just ignore them because they have done their forecast on Abuja and what it would look like in 20 yrs. Today, Abuja locals have come to appreciate this more! The idea behind this new concept is One: security reasons. Two: allow development (modern) to start from the airport area/town and move inward into major towns, meet the growing population and demand from neighboring towns, minimize traffic, air and noise pollution, e.t.c. Lagos is suffering from all these today especially horrible traffic. Enugu, Asaba and all others will in near future. Anambra if current plan is implemented, will be spared like Abuja. Let's plan and build for the future! 8 Likes |

Buddah=:Bro, History has proven that intolerance doesn't stop with just one group. Once you cultivate that emotion, you won't stop. When you were talking about other Igbos, i felt your pain but i wanted you to thread carefully with a forgiving heart. Because, even if you let other Igbo states go, if you let Anambra north go, you will also find a village in Okija you need to excise and let go. After that, you will still find a family in your village that needs to be excised and let go. ... and it will continue Bro, tread carefully on that dangerous emotion. That's how Adolf Hitler started oo! lol.. 5 Likes

I earlier said Buddamonk is just a paranoid human being. Cry baby, crying over nothing. When Peter obi 'Agulunized' and 'Catholicised his government and government house, okijaamaka alias Buddamonk didn't speak up or call him clannish. When he awarded the roads he awarded in his native Agulu, people like Buddamonk hailed him, when he introduced zoning to governance in the state, this same character cheered. Now he is coming here to talk nonsense. |

I know Ngige was trying to build a standard stadium in Awka. The land was already purchased around Amaenyi Awka or so but Peter Obi abandoned it. The present governor should try and resume work on that project. It's very necessary. |
