Anyone saying that Nigeria has a stronger army than other nations,must explain to us how BokoHaram can manage to kill 2000 people in a country with an army...or even abduct 200girls for more than a month.
Anyone coming from Kenya must explain why it took their entire military 4 days to defeat 6 little men with rusty AK47's in your capital.......

I await your answer....

Nigeria

Nigeria's incoming helicopter fleet.

During ADEX (Azerbaijan defence expo 2014), nigeria signed a significant MIL helicopter contract with Russia. When now now the actuall numbers signed.

Russia = 12 MI-17 termiator1SH and 6 MI-35M helicopters.

Ukraine = 4 MI-17 and 4 MI-35p

Belarus = 12 Up-graded MI-35 helicopters.

For a total of 38 new and up-graded helicopters in all.

its not the entire military, itwas 200 soldiers to be exact!
It took 4 days to defeat the terrorist, but only 67 lives were lost, 90% of which were killed on the first day of the attack. In a mall that has atleast 1000 civilians in any given day, and that number usually goes up on the weekends to about 1,600. The army might have screwed up not killing the terrorist chap chap and saving the country the emotional pain of waiting for 4 days, and also in emberracing the country when the whole world was watching but when you look at the bigger picture........67 killed (Including 4 soldiers and two police officers and about 5 private security guards) against a potential 1500 people is a good save!

Nothing you can say will rectify the situation, your Kenyan army was defeated by six little men with old rusty AK47's in a battle that lasted 4 days, if you Kenyans think your armed forces are better than the king of Africa's then leave this photo only thread and enter this thread and explain why we shouldn't laugh at you. https://www.nairaland.com/415620/strongest-military-africa/1679#29636202

Otherwise be quiet.

Picture of last month quick recovery of the f-5 jet that crashed in enemy(alshabaab) territory after Launching an airstrike that killed about 80 millitants. The body of the pilot was however already taken by alshabaab. May his soul rest in peace...

Was about to say the same thing, the discussion should go to the other thread.... But just to clarify defeat in a battle would mean if the terrorist were to live the building alive, Anyway whether the army was defeated or not (based on anyone's opinion depending on how they look at the situation). It was only one battle in the face of many battles that have happen before and that will happen in the future.... And judging the entire army for one battle in a war is not very considering.... am going to be quiet now

This is one of the MI-35P's were are getting from ukraine. We saw a photo of NAF 261 taken in kiev, ukraine in December of 2014.

I cannot confirm or deny your observation, what I can however confirm is this helicopter is a basic MI-35P, and it comes from the Ukraine.

ah! I've finally found what this thing is, pictures of an F-5 jet in Mombasa airport (FOB) which had some sort of 'kite' mounted on one of its wings

Its called a Dart - Its a a towed target for gun practice and training or missile practice, its can be deployed on the air DROVE WITH A BALLISTICALLY ACTUABLE DEPLOYMENT STATION(whatever that means) - such that the drone (jet) and tow dart are separated by a distance. The tow dart emits a homing signal for attracting a missile to the dart rather than to the drone(Jet)

The last pic is of an upclose US fighter Jet of the Dart

That's great. I've never seen that dart before.

You got me all wrong.

That picture you are referring to is Nigeria. It is one of our newly delivered MI-35p's from ukraine.

NAF 261 in this photo, was taken in kiev in December. This helicopter (261) isn't yet in Nigeria.

They both aren't MI-35M's.

"NAF is forming (2) squadrons of attack helicopters with ordered and ongoing deliveries".

Hey mister, stop your fake defences, your countryman MorrisKenya should not have said that about Nigeria. Let's not mess up this good photo thread, Kenyans should carry their hypocrisy to another thread, pot calling kettle black.

If you live in a glass house don't throw stones, El-Shabbab terrorists have fun with killing you Kenyans inside your homeland since 1998

Should we really debate that "phrase" instead of the real message put forward?

There are many defence sites in SA.

jungle bunny, there is nothing like a local blog on defence.
infact, it is technically wrong to say anything being published online is local. the blog you refer to feeds many notable defence blogs today. but it is however very unreasonable for any one to regard any discussion forum on defence as local considering the fact that the issue of foreign relation, foreign policy and international conflicts and conflict resolution are all intertwined with defence. thats why there could be local sport news, local security news, but there can never be local defence news.
