A. Frigates.

1. One is at sea(operational).
2. One held in reserve.
3. One undergoing refit.
4. One used for training and qualifying crews.

B. Submarines.
1. One at sea(operational).
2. One used for training and qualifying crews.
3. One undergoing refit.

Aradu is rotting away, your navy today has no combat capability.

You know what's also in reserve

Your 26 Grounded A109
Your 9 Gripen pilots
Your lack of aviation fuel
The fact your pilots fly only 16 hours per year.

This is standard for any navy in the world

The so called 1/3 rule

We just finished major naval exercises, repars and maintenance must be done. Vessels suffering damage during a year of high tempo operations is not unheard of and is to be expected.

Further, that Valour Class that has been under maintence for a year is about to become operational again - and the Amatola will take its spot and begin refit

Also, a damaged engine does not prevent a Valour Class frigate to perform training operations in false bay (Spionkop had an engine removed when it was slated for refit in 2009 and performed training ops in the bay for a whole year while waiting its chance jn dry dock)

This is how professional navies run - maintenance, maintenance, maintenance

Maybe if you followed our lead the Aradu would put to sea once every 5 years

And as a final point, the fact that the Warrior Class OPV's have come on line and the naval base in durban is nearing the end of refurbishment means that soon the valour class will not be not be needed for 24/7 patrol of the Mozambique channel - meaning the maintenance backlog can be adressed and that wear and tare on the vessels will be more than halved

And let me remind you - 1 combat ready frigate and 1 combat ready sub is one of each more than you [will ever] have
is enough to defend against any nation in sub saharan aftica

You boasted for 3 days on this forum in November that this 2015 your 4 frigates and 3 submarines will be doing force projection inside Nigerian oceans in the gulf of guinea, now mechanics report say 80% of Mandela's navy have engines knocked out of service, your ships and submaries are being infested by cockroaches in your naval base, yet you were deceiving us that your navy rules Africa ! grin grin

Don't be delusional. For all the noise Cameroon has been making BH controls the Lake Chad southern border up to Kouserri and down to Waza. Also in Cameroun Dagmee, Soueeram. Amchide and Ashigashiya are under siege.

Cameroun would collapse, and have to call in puppet master help if Boko-haram launches a full onslaught on your tiny country.

Anyway, I don't wish that for cameroon.
Then we ll see... If you don't know this country and its History I understand why your comment is so slight and pointless. Just inform yourself about our Independance war and the building of our Nation I mean NATION not pieces ! 300 ethnic groups from different confession all gathered always know how to live together is this the same in your country? Well don't be scared we remain ONE and our support to our army and government whether we like it or not is endless !

There is always some excuse for your inept military.

Here are the facts.

Only 1 Frigate is operational in South-Africa from a fleet of 4.

1 operational submarine from a fleet of 3

The SANDF should be disbanded and assets sold. You have no use for them anyway. Your Navy and Airforce are the 2 sides of the same in-competent COIN.

The Nigerian Navy is geared towards threats, not a compulsion to buy so we can show of, and then abandon equipment.

We don't buy 4 relic frigates, when we actually need OPV's....... and then go " oh..... we actually should have bought OPV's instead of Frigates".

We don't buy fighter jets we cannot maintain, fly or fuel for after 16 years.

We don't have 3 C-130's for an Area which is well over 1.2 km in size. We actually fly 14 transport planes for a 900km area.

Our defence planners do not go about purchasing stuffs we don't need, just because we want to take photographs of them.

Meticulous planning goes into each procurement process. This is to afford been saddled with a fleet of 26 grounded A109's or 12 mothballed Gripens, or 1 Frigate and 1 submarine.

SAN is the sort of navy you get when you have MK clowns running your defence force
NN has 50 year old hand-me-down Frigates, and you calling our state-of-the-art A200SAN Meko relics?
We received our first Gripen in 08, so I don't know where you get your "after 16 years"from.BTW NAF only has 3 F-7 pilots
"3 C-130's for an Area which is well over 1.2 km in size", the C-130 isn't our only transport planes we have:10 C47tp, 11 Cessna 208, 4 CASA C212, 4 Beechcraft super king air, 1 Pilatus PC12. That means we have 30 transport planes excluding our 9 C-130s and also excluding our VIP transport planes.
All our Gripens are Operational and are in rotation, our A109s were reportedly grounded and all of them are most likely operational at this stage.
And lastly @MikeCZAR has properly responded regarding our Valours and Subs.

No military on planet earth can conventionally defeat the USA one.

Russian military is still trying to recover from the rot of the late 80s and what followed after when the soviet union fell.
China is technologically behind the USA, they just have money.
indeed.though,i would counter you by putting forward the serviceable arguement that america's military power is overestimated,i mean, last year they came to nigeria with great promise and jambourine, and just a few weeks ago,a US military adviser claimed that: "they{the US army} were frustrated in their attempts to retrieve the chibok girls, and that they had given up".

I agree with you there brother, the US military is the most overestimated piece of shit in the world.
Just look at their history:
With a much more advanced military they got f;cked up in korea and were unable to invade N-Korea(actually lost a few towns to N-Korea to be exact)
Lost the war in Vietnam.
Got bleeped up in Somalia.
Lost a lot of soldiers in Iraq, even though Iraq was heavily outnumber and out gunned.
Got bleeped up in Afghanistan, and like Iraq turned it into a sh;t hole.
Last year alone they had a near 0% success rate in hostage rescues, they are also to blame for the death of a South African citizen, who would've been released two days latter thanks to our government efforts.
Their Airforce gets bleeped up in every international airforce exercise.

So yes I to think their overrated.

You start training personnel as soon as contracts are signed. That is how a professional military runs.

9 pilots, 16 years, 26 jets, failures.

You want me to start mentioning all the transport planes NAF also has? I'm more concerned about actual "military transport planes", not some world war 1 C47tp.

Your Gripens are not Operational, your so called military cannot afford Aviation fuel to fly them. Your Gripens are supposed to be new, but you somehow have managed to turn them into museum relics. Great job!

Your A109's are grounded, no funds, as usual, to put them back in the air.

And, i've also responded to his drivel.
