Hello house, I just got a 2010 Toyota FJ cruiser and was thinking of installing off road lights on the roof rack. A friend of mine said it was illegal to do that under traffic laws in Nigeria. What do you guys think? Is this true? See samples of what I mean.

You just called them OFF-ROAD lights; so unless you are going to be using them off-road like when you are going to your remote farm inside the bush or driving in the desert on your way to work then don't be a jerk and use them to dazzle oncoming drivers at night. For aesthetics, I believe you can have them installed but be considerate using it at night.

No insolence intended but I have been on the receiving end of a jerk who was using these lights at night and blinding me. So, like I said, be considerate. My apologies for any offense caused.

dis lights are very harmful to the oncoming driver bc it wil blind him thereby capable of causing an accident.

Ops, how will you feel wen such lights are flashed at you while driving.

those are considered to b an extra lights & any extra light is banned by FRSC

If you promise not to use it at night thereby blinding other road users, I don't have any problem with it.

On the other hand, the roof rack of that Suv is a special one, you can make the light a detachable one I.e the roof rack has slots for bolting rails so when FRSC start their yamayama, you can unbolt it, though I doubt if they will harass you for it.

They will when they spot it. A friend of mine has been delayed because of it and he had to ppromise to remove it after several pleas and calls were made. It is illegal. Please do not mount it. We are having a hard enough time already with people (idiots) who use their full beams not to talk of roof rack lights.

Pls pls pls, ejoor, biko, dan allah don't install that thing. Most Naija guys are copycats who'll copy anything without a second thought as to why the first person who did whatsoever did it thereby abusing its use.
Already because folks with cars bearing factory installed OEM HID lamps drive them at night, my Naija people copied them and installed these HID kits in Halogen lamp casing, some even went the extra mile to show forth their attitude by installing the HID on High beams and halogen on low beams which is kept turned on at Night thus blinding oncoming drivers and pedestrians.
I recall driving late night around 9pm to somewhere 2 weeks ago in Abuja. I was constantly dazzled. Even if I flashed these guys, they won't drop their beam until I activated my high beams and burned their retinas before they dropped theirs and I follow suite. One guy in an EOD had guts to turn his beam, I flashed him he refused, I turned my beams and he dropped his, only for him to stop in front of my car blocking my way just because he wants to warn me why I was blinding him with my high beams.

Bro, pls don't install that thing. The luxury buses and trucks and J5 on the highways having these contraption uses them to torment other drivers on the highway, don't add to the torment pls.
