Mr jasper, keep to wat u are doing and don't interfere in what does not concern u. I av quoted so many farmers here already, what do u av up ur sleeves that is making u feel jittery? If u av nothing to hide then keep on keeping on, bt if yes, we will surely find u out.
Let me explain something to you. I try to be as nice as possible when talking with people. especially on a faceless forum like this. but sometimes guys like you tend to push me over the edge. why go around spamming people's thread with this pointless message? why don't you take time to read through the pages, maybe if you see something suspicious you can bring it up? maybe that way, you'll earn people's respect. Do you see police in your neighborhood, knocking around people's doors and warning them to be law abiding citizens. if I am asked, I'll say you are an old member on this section who opened a new account to see if he can gain relevance. you say people should post their pics, have you not gone through my thread to see pics, or have you bothered to check my profile to see if I have pics or not? Oga, where is your own pics? why don't you identify yourself so that everybody can see who they are dealing with. please, play this your truancy on other threads that are ready to tolerate it. I hate silly posts with passion. you just create a new account yesterday and within a day you have spammed all the major farmers on this section. what is wrong with you? did you just decide to live your fantacies of being a tyrant on nairaland?

see, you have a good idea and I wish I could encourage you. but your manner of approach is too poor. why draft a post with intentions of terrorizing people?

Won't a post like this have made more sense to you?

DEAR MR JASPER, WE ARE A GROUP/INDIVIDUAL WHO HAVE THE SOLE AIM OF VERIFYING THE CREDIBILITY OF EVERY FARMER/AGRO MERCHANT ON NAIRALAND. PLEASE WE REQUEST THAT YOU SHOW OUR TEAM/AGENT FULL COOPERATION WHENEVER YOU ARE CONTACTED OR REACHED. WE WANT TO MAKE AGRO TRANSACTIONS HERE, SAFE AND SECURE. AND WE KNOW YOU DO TOO! THANKS FOR YOUR ANTICIPATED SUPPORT.

is that too civil for you? or must you go about it in the typical thuggish manner of Nigerians?

I suggest you adopt my suggested speech and watch every farmer here support you fully. I like your idea, but I just think you are going about it the wrong way

please, open my file o. I want to see how good you are in your job. cheesy

Hi Jasper, I have read this thread two times from page 1 up to 16, I am starting my own cucumber farm as soon as I am able to.

You are a very civilized, cultured, selfless and courteous Nigerian. Please don't let this troll spoil your good work. Ignore him as giving him any attention is what he is after and I think he is on a mission to derail the thread. You have given the best framework for polite communication and now you have to leave him to it.

With people like you, there is much hope for a better Nigeria. God bless you real good.

Thank u sir. The farm in the picture is located in the south-east. Owerri precisely. But I have other micro farms around the south-east south-south.
And concerning marketing, it was not easy initially. Majority of these crops are supplied from the north and displacing them in the market is a huge task. So what I did was make a high quality regulation on my product.

I also discovered that due to the long distance the northerners travel before they cab supply, their cucumbers come in stale and never fresh. So I made surr mine was fresh, juicy and nice before supply. I started by selling in retail to offices, schools and churches. Supply to those who helped me sell. I was very favoured in that aspect. But as the farms grew bigger, I had to find market women who come and buy in bulk at a reasonable price. Now, no matter the quantity I produce, it does not last the next day. Right now I sell up to 200k per harvest and twice a week. Don't underestimate those local market women. They struggle and fight for the products. A single woman can buy up to 20k a day for supply. It's not as profitable as selling retail but the money dey come sharp sharp cheesy

Is there anyone on this thread with a farm in either ,Oyo or Ogun state from whom I can learn the n Lagos itty gritty of cucumber farming.

Hello Topbrooks. I believe in "failure analysis" and I wonder if you can oblige me with the answers to the following questions. others may even benefit from your answers.

1. in your opinion, what is/are the causes of the failure of your previous attempt? for example someone mentioned staffing earlier
2. Mention some ideas that you have seen here that you definitely missed out in your previous attempt.
3. What are the things the OP mentioned here that you did but did not work well for you?
4. Mention one thing that you definitely will not repeat if you try again.

Thanks.

Good Questions. Most of these things I've discussed with Soloxam. You Know then I didn't know there was a platform like this. Straight to your questions
1. Disease Infection. That was the major cause. They started growing well and I was rejoicing thinking my 1 acre Cucumber Farm will make me thousands but suddenly the leaves started turning brownish yellow and to make matter worse, my supposed ' Guru' from NIHORT wrongly 'diagnosed' it. Though one of them promised to come around and physically check things in the farm but never did. I battled with it and managed to harvest a very small quantity. Soloxam later said I tried to have had little harvest. It was Downy Mildew caused by Fungi
I should also have started small and not that big anyway. I also had a little issue with those guys who worked for me, they also played their part in destroying some of my plants

2. So much Ideas. * Professional and competent advise from practicing farmers
* I didn't mulch in the first attempt. Now I know about mulching. You know I also had to battle weed after they began to die
* I didn't Stalk in the first attempt thinking it will cost me more(capital intensive) but I Know now that its worth it, of cause for several obvious reasons
3. I cant really remember any. I never came across this thread until after the all thing

4. As a matter of fact, am trying again, have bounced back but will be using just a plot on another piece of land( Trying to minimize risk-you know now). I will not use Ashley seed variety again. I'll be getting seeds from Soloxam. I'll also be going fully organic no more NPK
Hope this helps
