Ajuran: That's messed up man. But I don't expect much from you anyways. She is taken.... You talk about blowing people so much.... Are you sure that's what you haven't been doing behind the scenes? Typically speaking when someone talks about something in excess either they themselves want to partake in it or have done it, and they are trying to cover it up by stating someone else does it. |

People threw stones at the van of four Somali nationals who had packed up their shop in Soweto on Thursday following clashes between locals and foreigners. A crowd stood around the van, which the men were loading with stock, in Heald street, Meadowlands. Two police vans were on the scene and officers stood close to make sure the crowd did not intimidate the foreign businessmen. A boy in school uniform shouted: "They must leave, they want to kill us." One of the Somali men, Shineh Farrah Abdillah, responded: "Why would I want to kill you, you are my brother", to which the boy answered: "You are not my brother". The crowd became impatient and as the men finished packing their van and started the vehicle people began throwing stones. Abdillah, who said he had been in South Africa since 2011, told Sapa: "The police were trying to help us but now I'm worried about myself because of these people." Earlier on Thursday, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was reportedly in Meadowlands to try speak to the people. Police were on high alert in Soweto, the third day of clashes that left at least two people dead. Several shops owned by Ethiopians, Pakistanis and Somalis were closed in Snake Park following the attacks. Residents went on a rampage looting shops and attacking foreigners after a teenager was shot dead in Snake Park. Mthetheleli Siphiwe Mahori, 14, was shot dead, allegedly by a foreign shop owner on Monday. He was apparently part of a group that tried to rob the shop. The violence spilled over to Braamfischerville, Dobsonville, Emdeni, Zola and Protea Glen. http://www.timeslive.co.za/local/2015/01/22/somali-businessmen-s-car-stoned-in-soweto |

adamskutty: Somalis as Somalis didnt even exist in the time of the prophet in 700's. Because in the Quran it says that the prophets companions were sent to Zeyla then part of Abyssinia. Zeyla is now part of Somalia. This shows that their were no Somali identity and the word was not used at that time. It was only after the clans became Muslim that they went to war against Ethiopia. Funny how your making up history that even people in Southern Ethiopia dont even know about. |

gallivant: In 1529, Imam Ahmad's Adal troops defeated a larger Ethiopian contingent at the Battle of Shimbra Kure. The victory came at a heavy cost but it solidified the Somali forces' morale, providing proof that they could stand up to the sizable Ethiopian army. The victories that gave the followers of Imam Ahmad the upper hand came in 1531. The first was at Antukyah, where cannon fire at the start of the battle panicked the Ethiopian soldiers. The second was on 28 October at Amba Sel, when troops under the Imam not only defeated but dispersed the Ethiopian army and captured items of the Imperial regalia. These victories allowed the Somalis to enter the Ethiopian highlands, where they began to sack and burn numerous churches, including Atronsa Maryam, where the remains of several Emperors had been interred.[10] The country was looted by the Ahmad's forces, who destroyed several Christian monuments and oppressed the non-Muslim Amhara and Tigray. Dawit II died in 1540 and his heir was captured by the forces of Imam Ahmad; the Empress was unable to react as she was besieged in the capital. In 1543, Ethiopian guerrillas were able to defeat the Somalis with the help of the Portuguese navy, which brought 400 musketeers led by Cristóvão da Gama. Although da Gama was captured in the Battle of Wofla, and later killed, in 1543 Ahmad himself was killed and his army destroyed in the Battle of Wayna Daga, with the help of surviving Portuguese musketeers. The Ethiopian/Portuguese force consolidated their victory by ambushing and destroying a second force under one of the Imam's subordinates. This turned the war around. The surviving Somalis were forced to withdraw from Ethiopia, leaving both kingdoms severely weakened. |
