You can buy from ebay either UK or us or aliexpress. I just ordered for mine from ebay uk. Just remember to buy disposable liners, that way when the baby poos it won't stain the nappy you just remove the liner and throw away. I'm ordering 8 for a start.

Breakdown of cost savings when cloth diapers are used.

Assumptions
Assuming child is potty trained at 2.5 years.

Assuming 4 diapers are used per day @ 70 naira each

Total cost of disposable= 365 days * 2.5 years *70 naira * 4 per day (255,500 naira per child on diapers!!)

With the soap, electricity and water cost, cloth diapering full time will cost approximately 181,248 per child and much less for subsequent children. Thus saving approximately 74,252 naira per child and much more on subsequent children.
See table for breakdown.

Apart from cost savings, other advantages of cloth diapers include:

1) They are a healthier choice of diapering, as they are free from chemicals contained in disposable diapers.

2) They are a better choice for the environment, helping to reduce the environmental pollution caused by disposables.

3) They are made of are breathable material thus reducing the heat on baby's bottom.

4) Cloth potty training pants help toddlers’ potty train quickly when compared with disposable pull up pant.

5) Parents will never run out of baby diapers as long as they have been washed.

6) Being able to use the same diaper for two children such as a toddler and an infant, during the same period.

Cloth Diaper FAQs

What is a modern Cloth Diaper?
A modern cloth diaper is a washable, reusable diaper made of any one (or several) types of fabric . A modern modern cloth diaper usually requires a cloth diaper cover that is One size (fits a child from birth up until potty training). The sizing of the one size diaper cover is achieved by strategic placement of snaps/Velcro/aplix closures on the front of the diaper. This allows for the front of the diaper to be folded over and for the closure to be snapped on top of each other. As the baby grows, several snap settings allow for waist and leg growth.

Do people really still use cloth diapers?

As a matter of fact, cloth diapering has become quite the vogue thing to do ,especially among the educated ,fashionable ,health and environmental conscious parents. Even the rich and famous, from singers and TV personalities, to Hollywood stars, have been spotted with their children in cloth diapers. They include: Christina Aguilera (Singer), Tony Blair (Politician), Celine Dion (Singer), Michael J. Fox (Actor), Julia Roberts (Actress), Usher (Singer).

What do I do with the poop? Good question!!
I think everybody asks us this question. It is important to note that it is EASY! Modern inventions (like flushable diaper liners and the diaper sprayer) have taken the grossness factor out of this issue.
If you are not using a flushable diaper liner, as with any other diaper, remove as much solid poop as possible at the time of diaper change (shake into toilet or use a diaper sprayer/shower hose) and flush!
But with a flushable diaper liner, all you have to do is to lift the poop with the liner ,or turn it over ,into the toilet and flush!

What are flushable diaper liners?
Flushable liners are used between the diaper and the baby's skin, letting moisture (urine) pass through to the diaper while preventing solids waste from getting on the diaper. They are made with soft and biodegradable materials. They can be easily flushed away in the toilet. They help to easily dispose off baby poop while also preventing the solid wastes from staining the cloth diapers, thus making cloth diaper laundry easier.

My baby is in a daycare center, will I be able to cloth diaper?

Yes you can. Your initial discussion with the daycare will be more successful when you take along one of the diapers and demonstrate the ease of use. They require that you provide a place to store used diapers and that you take your diapers home with you each night for washing. You can purchase a diaper wet bag for this purpose. Remember that ease of use is going to be an essential bargaining chip!Because public perception of cloth diapering still revolves primarily around flat diapers, vinyl diaper covers and pins, it may help to have one diaper on hand that you can use to demonstrate the ease of use.

Will my house smell like a diaper pail / bin?
You shouldn't have any more odor than you experience with disposable diaper. Many cloth diapering parents actually claim to smell less diaper pail/bin odor when using cloth diapers simply because their cloth diapers aren't full of perfumes (like disposables).
The best way to combat diaper pail/bin odor is to wash cloth diapers frequently, at least every other day. Finally,be sure that your diaper pail/bin has a lid on it and keep it closed.

What about washing?
The number one thing to remember when caring for your diapers is they are just another load! It is as easy as washing your normal baby clothes. There is no magical solution that you should need and no crazy tricks. You can also hand wash as easily too.
How long does it take to dry on a clothline?
Depending on the time of the day and season of the year and the type of diaper, modern cloth diapers can take between 3 to 5 hours to dry on a cloth line.

How long can it be used on a baby?
Depending on the age of your baby, type of modern cloth diaper system you are using and brand,a diaper should last between 6-8 hours.
What if my diaper starts smelling?
If you're having problems with diapers that smell after washing, try an extra rinse. Sometimes detergent residue can cause diapers to smell.
Do I have to sanitize the washing machine after washing my cloth diapers?Absolutely not. If the diapers are clean, the washing machine is clean.

I am traveling can I use cloth diapers?
Yes of course! Its like saying I am traveling, can I wear reusable clothes?Just make sure you have the necessary accessories such as wet bags and disposable liners that will ease the storage of the used diapers till you get to your destination. Also, depending on the cloth diaper system you use ,your babies’ age and the length of your journey, you can increase the diaper absorbency by using 2 or more diaper inserts.

How many years can I use it for?
This depends on your frequency of washing, how you take care of them and the number of children using it for per time. However most modern cloth diapers will last for more than one child. They get better with age because the more you wash them the more absorbent they become.
Which is the best brand of modern cloth diaper?
The Rumparooz brand of cloth diaper is the best. www.clothdiaper.ng

This your calculation is very modest,You forgot the very expensive pull up pants, those are really expensive and daycare centers request you bring lots while your child is potty training. It's only those that use low quality disposables that will not see cloth diapers as a cost saving solution. In this our economy with rising cost of living and raising children who wont want to save!!
Expecting the ones i ordered and i hope to get the soon o!!

6 EFFECTIVE WAYS TO HELP YOUR BABY SLEEP AT NIGHT
Mothers must understand that babies have a different sleep cycle from adults. Babies are in the Rapid Eye Movement (REM) state for around 50% of the sleep time. During the REM state, babies are easily woken up. The REM sleep promotes brain building and helps them to be able to get mummy’s attention when they are hungry, cold, hot or can’t breathe well. By the second to third month, babies will have shorter period of REM sleep and longer period of non REM (deep sleep).

All this info is great but i think we should hear a Nigerian perspective on cloth diapers. It is easy to assume everyone has access to a washing machine and constant light but that's not the reality (3/4 of Lagos will certainly not have clean water or light to do laundry everyday) . I would like to hear from a Mummy in Nigeria who can tell us about her experience, including where she lives, how old is her child, what are the day-to-day implications of it, does her daycare use it, what's the ease of storing dirty diapers and how many times does she wash and what detergent she uses (because cloth diaper companies here in the US will make specific detergent recommendations like Rockin' Green, which is supposed to improve the absorption of cloth diapers).

So anyone wants to speak honestly about their experience? Pictures of the user wi be nice as well.

About 17 years ago, a relation gave me a couple of very similar diapers. It didnt have a leak proof back though. My only problem with it is that it is very thick and when/if your dryer isnt available, it wont dry with air quickly and it can cause a rash on your baby's butt smiley

Hmm...

Inasmuch as this is cost saving in a way compared to diapers,it can also be very stressful in terms of usage.

Consider when a child poos. The stress of washing, and drying?

Then consider if these cloth diapers are not properly washed well or dried properly?

I still prefer diapers any day, anytime, at least for now and in Nigeria.

That is why you have the liners to save you the stress of dealing with poo. The liner protects your diaper from poop stains, when poo happens you just flush the liner with the poop and rewash the diaper. Here is a video of the TenderPlus reusable diaper brand( click link to watch) :http://www.tenderplus.com.ng/how-to-use-tenderplus-rumparooz-modern-cloth-diaper/
When you baby poos on their dress or jeans, I am sure you do not thrash it.
Also these reusable diapers help your child potty train as it can be pulled on and off by a toddler when they start learning how to use the potty and in case your child accidentally pees before getting to the potty, the cloth diaper/ reusbale diaper soaker will save you the stress of cleaning pee.
Also they are chemical free, no chemicals not irritations.

You are right in today's fast paced world convenience sometimes trumps other things. Hence why disposable will reign supreme

EfemenaXY:
Re-usable cloth nappies are without a doubt, the best in terms of being environmentally friendly.

Question is, with regards to time, how efficient are they for today's working mums? In the mad rush-rush world we live in, rather than spend precious time washing, rinsing, conditioning, drying, ironing and folding away these nappies after use, it's so much easier to just change and discard into the bin.

I still have fond memories of those nappies sha. Softer than towels...ah! Was guilty of nicking a couple of my younger sisters' nappies for my primary six Home Economics assignment... embarassed lipsrsealed

Not my fault o! Teacher say make we sew baby bibs or else....who wan get flogged anyway tongue
