but he was talking about generating 160 000MW with $3.2trillion,or cant you read?

The current capacity is 4,500 megawatts.
“The cost of providing electricity per megawatt on average is $2billion. To get to where South Africa is, you will need about $3.2trillion (about N672trillion). Where will you find that kind of money?” he asked
.

____

Once again, "where South Africa is" could NEVER mean 160 000 MW. Never.

THOSE PROJECTIONS YOU KEEP SHOWING AREN'T MENTIONING THE FACT THAT YOUR OIL AND GAS RESERVES ARE DECLINING AND ITS ALSO NOT MENTIONING "NEW DISCOVERIES IN OTHER COUNTRIES" AND RECENT OIL CRISIS. Save us the PROJECTION NONSENSE, we have seen projections that claimed SA's population would be 34 million in 2010 due to AIDS. Note: these projections were done using % of that time.

Another example is recent OIL AND GAS DIECOVERIES in East and Southern Africa(Namibia,RSA,Mozambique,Tanzania,Madagascar) will harm Nigeria. Note: Nigeria depends on foreign investment to achieve what was shown on the projections...Meaning Nigeria needs to attract investment, unfortunately you guys are getting any new investors.
Bad news US is not longer buying your oil...most western oil firms are pulling out of Nigeria due to new oil and gas discoveries in more stable countries.
grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Again your GEOGRAPHICAL POSITION you're located on the corner of Africa, unlike SA is located on the bottom of AFRICA and can serve both WEST/EUROPE/US and EAST/ASIA.
Again most ASIAN oil and gas investors will chose east Africa than west Africa for obvious reasons.
grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin Those who have seen projections know that by now Ivory Coast would have been up there... grin grin grin grin

Dream on, I hope God answers your prayers. BRICS will still stand firm above MINT even in the year 3000.

Your views are merely advanced by the right groups who are merely scared of the leftist growing power which seems to thrive despite all the challenges. Their only hope is now only on MINT to challenge BRICS and neutralise them from deleting G8 out of the league of being seen as important. Their fear is China.

to get to where SA is?,by the way,where is SA?,you are generating barely 40 000MW of power,our minister was mentioning 160 000MW of power!,so do the mathematics,hasnt that surpassed you?,is 40 000MW bigger than 160 000MW?

Chief!! your power grid is 4000 MW and you are fortunately used to load shedding. You can't keep power for 24 hrs a day.

SA is not used to even spending an hour without electricity, that's why when eskom takes power for merely 4hours it makes world news headlines.

If u were to do a projection in 2009, you would have missed this info below. What am trying to say PROJECTIONS only use current figures to base their calculations and do not show future discoveries like Oil and gas or mineral wealth. grin grin grin grin Back in the day Zimbabwe were projected to be among the top 5 in Africa, then they were the fod basket f Southern Africa and look at our brothers now. Am not player hating on my Zim cousins but wanna show u that projections will always be projections.... grin grin grin

Here's a good example today SA's and overseas companies have realized last year that SA waters were UNEXPLORED....Note:SA is sorrounded by both Indian and Atlantic ocean and has the longest shoreline in Africa. These new oil and gas activities will be added on SA economy that will change PROJECTIONS that were made about SA. SA like many countries will REBASE HER ECONOMY AND START COUNTING OIL AND GAS MOOLA. grin grin

Vast majority of SA’s offshore oil and gas blocks already under licence, application
Sasol, Eni partner on SA hydrocarbon exploration

Producers were also looking for supply alter-natives to the oil-rich, but politically unstable, Middle East oilfields and have been further attracted by recent legislation in terms of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, which Salomo argued had provided a degree of risk-share with the South African government.

Offshore exploration activity over the past two years had produced some 21 000 km2 of three-dimensional survey data and over 36 200 km2 of two-dimensional data.

While emphasising that an accurate quantifi-cation of South Africa’s offshore oil and gas potential remained elusive, at present, Salomo maintained that, based on geological modelling and long-term predictions, Petroleum Agency SA, which promotes exploration for onshore and offshore oil and gas resources, had estimated prospective offshore oil and gas resources at 21.75-billion barrels and 62.4-trillion cubic feet respectively.

Of this, 10.2-billion barrels of oil and 27.7-tril- lion cubic feet of gas was attributed to prospec-tive resources along the West Coast of South Africa, while 9.55-billion barrels of oil and 25.5-trillion cubic feet of gas was estimated for blocks off the country’s South Coast.

“Prospective resources along the East Coast of the country are estimated at two-billion barrels of oil and nine-trillion cubic feet of gas.

Among the largest offshore oil and gas pro-jects currently under way was the Ibhubesi gas project off the West Coast – a joint venture between South African national oil company PetroSA and Australian independent energy group Sunbird Energy.

This project would see the development of a 400-km-long gas pipeline, two shorecrossing sites – one between Grotto Bay and Duyne-fontein and the other on the Saldanha peninsula – and the construction of an onshore gas-receiving facility near Ankerlig, in the Western Cape.

“The offshore field is expected to begin pro-duction in late-2017, early 2018, with an initial flow rate of 100-million standard cubic feet of gas day,” Salomo said.

South African A Darter missile in final tests

The A-Darter fifth generation air-to-air missile has undergone further testing, with a successful launch on Monday. During the most recent test, from a South African Air Force Gripen fighter, an A-Darter was launched at a target drone on a perpendicular trajectory to the launch aircraft, and at substantial distance. The missile's targeting system locked on to the target, flying 600 metres above the launch aircraft, the Brazilian Air Force said.

The success of the flight test marks one of the final stages of the missile development. According to Brazilian Air Force Colonel Julius Caesar Cardoso Tavares, the project manager for Brazil, with this release A-Darter is over 90% complete. It is expected that production will commence before the end of this year and the programme will be ready in the first half of 2016, and should eventually equip the Brazilian Air Force's Gripen NG fighters as well as the Gripen C/Ds and Hawks of the South African Air Force.

According to Tavares, the main feature of the latest generation of missiles is the ability to perform high-performance manoeuvres. "The guidance sensor detects the target and the missile then calculates the best route to intercept."The A-Darter is the flagship project of Denel Dynamics, the division in the group responsible for advanced systems technology in the missile and UAV environments.

With a length of 2.98 meters and weighing 90 kg, the A-Darter is not fitted with the normal small forward wings used for manoeuvring. Instead, the missile steers by directing the thrust of its rocket engine. It is thus able to perform manoeuvres that include load factors of up to 100 g, when the most modern fighter jets cannot exceed 9 g.Guided by a heat-seeking homing head, the A-Darter also can "see" more of an infrared frequency and can thus avoid being deceived by "flares", incandescent bait thrown by enemy aircraft to confuse missiles. Its maximum range is 12 miles (19 km).

The development partnership between South Africa and Brazil on the A-Darter began in 2006 and the goal is that both countries produce components for future exports. "In future, sales will be shared. There is already as agreement between the companies," said Tavares.South Africa, with missile development experience since the 1960s, sought to partner with Brazil due to the complexity of the project. "It's a high-tech missile," said Tavares. He said the A-Darter has innovations dominated by few countries in the world, which is not transferred when there is the purchase of weapons. "No one teaches how to do that," he said.

Three hundred million Brazilian r'eals (R1.3 billion) have been invested in the A-Darter so far, half being directed to Brazilian companies including Mectron, Avibras and Optoelectronics.

“The cost of providing electricity per megawatt on average is $2billion. To get to where South Africa is, you will need about $3.2trillion (about N672trillion). Where will you find that kind of money?” he asked.

And your GDP is already pegged at higher that South Africa's, but you don't have enough money to get where we are.
electricity in Nigeria has now been privatised like telecommunications.

But do we need electricity to beat south afrika? Nope. We don't.

Point to note is that today Nigeria is no 1 in Africa and tomorrow still holds true of that position.

Sweden and other Scandinavian countries have a higher standard of living than the mighty US but you and I know you do not compare them.

So let south Africa use Sweden as her model and we shall use US and China as ours . In a few years time we shall compare who is more powerful and prosperous.

Chief, I cannot be told about some fantasy which is predicted to happen in 2050 and suddenly jump to concur with it. A lot can happen along the way. Who knows if in 2050 Nigeria will still be a one solid country? Some American experts predicted that Nigeria will tear into two and their economy will crash and collapse. So, tell me why do you chose to believe one prophecy over another? I call it a prophecy because what those researchers have predicted is untrue. A lot more can happen along the way. Nigeria could discover gold and SA could as well discover Oil and change the whole lies that those researchers predicted.
