tsdarkside: Trillions have been disappearing from the treasury from the days of Babangida, Abubakar, Abacha, Obasanjo and even Buhari. It did not start with Jonathan. I am not supporting stealing but we must tell ourselves the bitter truth. |

I was at Naval Dockyard in VI yesterday. I am aware of the commissioning of the ships. Also, I got information about the ships from a site as recorded below; The Nigerian Navy is set to commission four newly acquired warships at the Naval Dockyard Ltd, Victoria Island, Lagos, on 19 February. Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan will preside over the commissioning of NNS Centenary, NNS Okpabana, NNS Prosperity and NNS Sagbama. A statement posted on the Nigerian Navy's website read: "The acquisition is a landmark achievement for the Nigerian Navy and the federal government. "The occasion is unique because this is the first time in the history of the Nigerian Navy that four capital warships will be commissioned at once." The ships will enhance ongoing efforts to improve security in the nation's maritime environment and help Nigeria meet security challenges. "This is the first time in the history of the Nigerian Navy that four capital warships will be commissioned at once." NNS Centenary was acquired from China as part of a contract awarded by the Nigerian Navy in April 2012. A P-18N offshore patrol vessel (OPV), it was launched in Wuhan, China, in January 2014, Navy Recognition reported. NNS Okpabana is a former US Coast Guard Hamilton-class high endurance cutter and was transferred to Nigeria in May 2014 to help combat illicit maritime activities in Nigerian waters and the Gulf of Guinea. The third warship, NNS Prosperity, is an ex-Irish Naval Force OPV, while NNS Sagbama is a 38m-long domestically built patrol craft. Now why is the commissioning coming at this period? for political reason or just to show how they spent the oil money. Despite increasing oil prices for so many years, Nigeria external debt increases in order to have more money in the foreign reserve to blind fold people. If you do simple arithmetic of subtracting the external debt from foreign reserve you will now know the extent of financial recklessness of the administration. IBB used increase in oil price to build roads and industries. OBJ paid debt, started most restructuring of the economy ( Petroleum, Railway, Power, Financial, etc) and left $50 billion dollar foreign reserve in addition to billion of dollar as operational/working capital for the next government from $5.5 billion foreign reserve in 1999 and huge debt which Nigeria used her money to service the interest through debt servicing yearly. Debt servicing takes some percentage of Nigeria's yearly budget until the issue of the debt was resolved. Now, coming back to Naval ships commissioning, this is my constituency. There are classes of ships; some are Aircraft carriers, Destroyers, Frigates, Patrol craft, Mine layers etc. Nigeria has the NNS Thunder (F90) as the largest, followed by NNS Aradu (F89) I would not know the situation of Aradu for now. These are frigates. It is when I now the class of ships being commissioned that I can determine if the publicity worths it or it is just another political campaign. 1 Like |

As I said earlier in posting above, the class of the warship will determine the motive behind the publicity at this political battle time. Also, the ships will be compared with those bought by The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) used for patrolling. They must not be in the same class, otherwise ........... |
Re: Commissioning Of 4 Nigerian Navy Warships By President Jonathan by slimfit1(m): 12:49pm On Feb 19, 2015 |
hotgunz: Thank you very much I'm asking the president the same question. I'm sure the resources spent on those ships would have made life miserable for bokos but ship that will never survive a modern battle is more important ask the generals what is more important to us not you us right now even as at 3 or 4 years ago when it was ordered. |
