IDEX 2015 Flying under a new name [IDX15D1] SAM J BASCH 22 February 2015 A final series of recent flight trials of the Seeker 400 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system from Denel Dynamics (South African Pavilion, Stands 12-C21 and UM-46) has cleared it for imminent production this year. In the event, the system is being offered in both a ‘clean’ ISR-only and an armed reconnaissance version, with the latter designated Snyper, said Sello Ntsihlele, Denel Dynamics’ UAVs general manager. “Our latest trials involved the full gamut of performance tests, including range and altitude, safety, endurance and functional payload,” he stated. “This brought us to the baseline as specified by the client, allowing us to head for production.” It appears that sensitivities about armed UAVs have prompted the South African Air Force (SAAF) to retain the Seeker 400 designation for a pure surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft. Seeker 400 is the latest and most advanced of Denel Dynamics’ UAV portfolio, with an operating altitude of 18,000ft, 16 hours’ endurance and a cruising speed of 150km/h. With a payload capacity of 100kg, it can carry dual payloads comprising synthetic aperture radar, optronics turret and digital video system for different tactical missions. Seeker 400 builds on the heritage of the smaller Seeker 200, derived from the Seeker II, which had significant export success. Both versions are on display at IDEX this year. “By aligning the design with international specifications for an armed surveillance UAV, we can offer Snyper with four Impi-S missiles,” Ntsihlele explained. “That still allows for a 40kg payload, typically the Goshawk II HD from Airbus DS Optronics, although we are still optimising Snyper’s structure.” The Impi-S is derived from the proven Denel Dynamics short-range (5,000m) Ingwe and long-range (10,000m) Mokopa anti-armour missiles. According to Ntsihlele, potential international clients have indicated a preference for the existing Denel Dynamics forward tactical ground station, despite a smaller ground station being available for ease of transport. The tactical ground station typically more than doubles the line-of- sight range of the aircraft – up to 750km in the case of Seeker 400. 1 Like

Mbombe for Jordan Extensive evaluation trials done, the Mbombe 6x6 armoured combat vehicle is ready for production. South Africa’s Paramount Group (Stand 12-C22) and the King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB) of Jordan (Stand 01-B08) yesterday signed a major production contract at IDEX for the first 50 Mbombe vehicles. “The production of Mbombe in Jordan signals an important milestone in the continuing growth of the defence industrial capability in the Middle East,” said Major General Omar Al Kaldi, chief executive of KADDB. “By integrating our technologies, engineering skills and know-how, we bring innovation to the industry.” Signing of the contract followed extensive vehicle trials in 50°C desert environments in Jordan and the UAE, right down to -50°C during winter in Kazakhstan. Mbombe successfully completed the rigorous trials, covering more than 10,000km in the world’s most harsh and challenging environments. Clearly pleased with Jordan’s decision to select the South African-developed Mbombe 6x6, Ivor Ichikowitz, founder and executive chairman of Paramount, noted the long history of collaboration with Jordan. “We are very excited to support the development of a defence industrial base in Jordan that will contribute to employment, skills development and technology transfer, as well as training.” Unlike most South African-designed mine-protected vehicles, Mbombe uses flat-hull technology, and is the first to offer all-round protection against a variety of threats. Besides ballistic protection up to 14.5mm heavy machine gun rounds, it is similarly protected against 155mm artillery bursts. With Level 4 mine protection, it can withstand a 10kg mine detonating under the hull or wheels, and a 50kg TNT blast from IEDs. 1 Like

Paramount Group announces multi-million dollar contract for production of world-leading combat vehicles in Jordan Boost for military and industrial development inthe Middle East Abu Dhabi - Paramount Group, Africa's largest privately owned defence and aerospace business and Jordan's state-owned defence company, the King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB) has today signed a major contract for the production of the world's most advanced armoured combat vehicles, the 6x6 Mbombe infantry combat vehicle, which is specifically designed to meet the demands of modern conflicts around the world. The contract for the production of the first 50 Mbombes was signed by the CEO of KADDB, Major-General Omar Al Kaldi and the Chairman of Paramount Group, Ivor Ichikowitz at IDEX 2015, the largest defence expo in the Middle East. CEO of King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB), Major General Omar Al Kaldi said: "The production of Mbombe in Jordan signals an important milestone in the continuing growth of the defence industrial capability in the Middle East. The Mbombe is a world-class product that is optimally suited for the requirements of defence forces in the region. The Mbombe will become the platform for the future 6x6 requirements of the Jordanian Armed Forces. By integrating our technologies, engineering skills and know-how we are looking forward to bringing innovation to the industry. " Ivor Ichikowitz, Founder and Executive Chairman of Paramount Group said: "We are extremely privileged by Jordan's decision to select the Mbombe 6x6 for its armed forces. Jordan has a strategic position and role in the Middle East in building stability and security across the region. " Paramount Group and the Jordanian defence industry have a long history of collaboration and we are very excited to support the development of a defence industrial base in Jordan that will contribute to employment, skills development and technology transfer and training. This is an important milestone for Jordan and South Africa's defence collaboration". The signing of the contract follows an extensive programme of vehicle trials comprising 50°Celsius desert environments in Jordan and the UAE, to -50° Celsius during winter trials in Kazakhstan. The Mbombe successfully completed the rigorous trials and in the process covered more than 10,000 km in the world's most harsh and challenging enviornments. The South African developed Infantry Combat Vehicle, Mbombe, represents the latest in armoured and land mine protected technology in the world. The Mbombe is a six-wheeled vehicle that employs a ground-breaking new form of construction technologyoffering outstanding protection, mobility and firepower. It is designed to provide unrivalled protection against landmines, IEDs, side blasts and RPG attacks. Ichikowitz added: "The nature of threats that armed forces in the Middle East are facing has intensified. Armed forces demand world-leading technologies and capabilities to combat these threats." "The South African defence industry has become one of the most advanced developers of defence technologies in the world and Paramount Group today is the custodian of much of this technology. It has always been our philosophy to share technology, transfer skills and to assist countries in driving industrialisation and to create jobs. The signing of this contract provides us with the first concrete step in doing this here in Jordan." Mbombe is the first vehicle in its class to use flat hull mine proteced technology, and the first to offer all-round protection against a variety of threats. Ballistic protection is provided against 14.5mm heavy machine gun rounds, while it offers similar levels of protection against 155mm artillery burst. Level 4 mine protection is offered against 10kg mines detonating under the hull or wheels. Against IEDs, it can withstand a 50kg TNT blast. Production of the 50 Mbombe's will commence immediately with manufacturing taking place in Jordan and South Africa. 1 Like |

DENEL DYNAMICS DISPLAYS ARMED SEEKER 400 Like i said in my last post regarding Seeker 400. A lil birdy says watch out for this one being ordered by the SA Airforce. Now this story adds a little more to that. Denel Dynamics showed an armed version of its Seeker 400 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for the first time at the IDEX show currently underway in Abu Dhabi.Sello Ntsihlele, UAV general manager of the company in the Denel Group specialising in UAVs and missiles, told the IDEX show daily that a final series of recent flight trials of the Seeker 400 system cleared it for production this year. "The system is being offered in both a 'clean' ISR Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance-only and an armed reconnaissance version designated Snyper," he said."The latest trials involved the full gamut of performance tests, including range and altitude, safety, endurance and functional payload. This brought us to the baseline as specified by the client, allowing us to head for production. "The Seeker 400 is the latest and most advanced of Denel Dynamics' UAV portfolio, with an operating altitude of 18 000ft, 16 hours endurance and a cruising speed of 150 km/h. With a payload capacity of 100 kg it can carry dual payloads comprising synthetic aperture radar, optronics turret and digital video system for different tactical missions. The Seeker 400 builds on the heritage of the smaller Seeker 200, derived from the Seeker II, which had significant export success. Both versions are on display at IDEX. "By aligning the design with international specifications for an armed surveillance UAV, we can offer Snyper with four Impi-S missiles. That still allows for a 40 kg payload, typically the Goshawk II HD from Airbus DS Optronics, although we are still optimising Snyper's structure," Ntsihlele told the IDEX daily publication. The Impi-S is derived from the proven Denel Dynamics short-range (5 000 m) Ingwe and long-range (10 000 m) Mokopa anti-armour missiles. According to Ntsihlele, potential international clients have indicated a preference for the existing Denel Dynamics forward tactical ground station, despite a smaller ground station being available for ease of transport. The tactical ground station typically more than doubles the line-of- sight range of the aircraft - up to 750 km in the case of Seeker 400. The IDEX show daily, produced by IHS Jane's, suggested that the South African Air Force has ordered the type. However, at the time of publication the SAAF had not responded to a request for comment on the possible UAV acquisition or whether 10 Squadron, which operated the Kentron Seeker RPV in the late 80s, will be re-activated. 1 Like |

BH is very prudent and more intelligent than your army. Once it sees that your army is powerful in conventional war they resort to guerilla style of offensive and suicide bombings to demoralise and frustrate your military. 1 Like |

EVarn: There will no be total annihilation. Think. The Boko Haram came out of your pathetic socio-economic situation. Until that is addressed, the military game won't achieve total annihilation. Nigeria's problems are self-created and have now become the problem of other countries. http://www.voanews.com/content/boko-haram-resorts-to-guerilla-tactics-as-pressure-mounts/2655726.html “Now they are going to activate cells in cities and attempt to hit at cities, and continue the war, but not in occupying territories, and not in being very defensive. You know they are going to go underground, but just a motley [group] of armed insurgents, fighting in some chosen areas," said Abdulkadir. But I believe that the attack is going to continue more with suicide bombings but also attack on urban populations.” http://america.aljazeera.com/opinions/2015/2/african-union-forces-may-exacerbate-boko-haram-threat.html African Union forces may exacerbate Boko Haram threat 2 Likes |
