Atheists Have A Religion by folaski: 2:11pm On Mar 11, 2015 |
All human beings are religious without any exception. It is what they worship and how they worship that differs. For anyone to say he/she does not have a religion is not true. This is because we all hold ideologies or believes systems. For instance if you are a strong believer in Carl Max's philosophy of life, that will be the guiding principle that governs your life. So in a sense Carl Max is your god who's opinion guides your life. You have idolised him. If you are so bound to anything or anyone then you have a god in them ad so you are religious. Atheist take note : you have a god and a religion . 2 Likes |

So tell us the ideologies that atheists share, I'm sure you're the usual guy who copies and pastes stuff without any knowledge....So you'll probably start listing materialism...and scientific axioms that have nothing to do with atheism. 2 Likes |

Why do we bother arguing about definitions when we've got dictionaries? folaski: For instance if you are a strong believer in Carl Max's philosophy of life, that will be the guiding principle that governs your life. So in a sense Carl Max is your god who's opinion guides your life. You have idolised him.Role models do not equate to gods. Even if you decide to use that word, bear in mind that it has different meanings and does not always mean deity as used in the religious sense. If you are so bound to anything or anyone then you have a god in them ad so you are religious. Also, being enthusiastic about something/someone doesn't make you religious. 2 Likes |

Karl Marx...did any one of you read his work in original language? Did any one of you studied where his phrase "Die Religion ... ist das Opium des Volkes" origins from? Did any one of you studied in what context, time and thinking line it settled? Who did study Marx's critics on Hegel's philosophy? Are you aware of the difference between Marx ideas of religion and Lenin's copycat? It's probably one of the most wrongly interpreted and cited phrases in history.... Anyone who didn't and called others names like dumb or clueless is just talking like an areaboy. |
Re: Atheists Have A Religion by FOLYKAZE(m): 11:53am On Mar 12, 2015 |
DProDG: Defining the word "religion" is fraught with lot difficulties. No one definition can encompass all the varieties of belief and practice that have been called religion. Actually, it is a universal social institution, but it takes a multitude of forms. The dictionaries you have will only define one aspect or form of it while leaving the rest uncovered which is uneven justice. DProDG: An influence person is god according to dictionary. Titan which is god and mean powerful person. According to many organised religion; especially christianity, human is god. So this assertion is wrong. DProDG: reverance is equivalent to worship which is a very constant word in many definitions. We worship people and that makes them a god. |
Re: Atheists Have A Religion by FOLYKAZE(m): 11:56am On Mar 12, 2015 |
onetrack: many influencial people GOD. Those ones influencing you are your GODS. You know them |
Re: Atheists Have A Religion by Nobody: 1:06pm On Mar 12, 2015 |
FOLYKAZE:The conventional definition of a religion only has to do with the worship of a deity, based on faith. Any group or organisation that does such can be classified as a religion. An influence person is god according to dictionary.I used the word deity previously so we could put the semantics surrounding 'god' to rest. You said it yourself, the word 'god' has different meanings and yet the OP uses it as one. And no, according to Christianity, Yahweh/Jehovah is God. Yes, more word games. God≠deity. |

Re: Atheists Have A Religion by FOLYKAZE(m): 2:58pm On Mar 12, 2015 |
DProDG: The Op is talking about religion generally and not conventional form of it. And going by your assertion that religion has to do with worship of deity then we have to agree that confusionism, taosim and buddhism is not a religion. This assertion as you know is wrong because confusionism, taoism, buddhism and jainism neither worship deity not necessarily recognise it existense. DProDG: Deity is the samething as God. Human as well is God. History justified that kings and emperiors are worship in the ancient worlds. In many cultures today, human being are being worship as God. I can list human god in there number to you. DProDG: To which Jesus said 'ye are gods' reffering to fellow humans. I dont even need to denegrate to animals serve as gods. . . . DProDG: wrong sir Reference to http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=definition%20deity&spell=1&sa=X , deity = god/goddess That put to corner. . . Religion as defined by many scholars spread over atheism. Going by your conventional religion definition stated as worship of deity, atheism is still under the tent of religion. Let me define those two important term in religion; worship and deity/god. 1. Worship is acknowledging worth of someone or something. 2. God/deity is very much a cap that fit man's head esp influencial person. Atheists generally acknowledge the worth of influencial person. This when put back in few words mean atheist worship god. This is a religion. There are many definition of religion atheisms still stand under for shade. Prof. Robert Bellah defines religion as a set of symbolic forms and acts that relate man to the ultimate conditions of his existence. This definition certainly extends the concept to cover non-theistic philosophies of life such as materialism, naturalism etc and including atheism. Edmund Optiz said your religion is the fundamental way you approach, understand, and evaluate all subjects. It consists of your first principles, the truths you regard as self-evident, the basic axioms you take for granted, and through which you view everything else. So pls tell me sir, from the two definitions how atheism doesnt fit in. |
Re: Atheists Have A Religion by Nobody: 6:36pm On Mar 12, 2015 |
FOLYKAZE:Okay, so ideology? And going by your assertion that religion has to do with worship of deity then we have to agree that confusionism, taosim and buddhism is not a religion. This assertion as you know is wrong because confusionism, taoism, buddhism and jainism neither worship deity not necessarily recognise it existense.Non-theistic religions are regarded as philosophies but are occasionally referred to as religions because of their similarities, so I stand by my assertion(I must add 'the belief in' and not just 'worship of' though). Yes, but influential people(gods) are never worshiped, eg Karl Marx. However people that are considered deities, are(most often than not), eg Kim Jong Un. Did you notice that none of the definitions have anything to do with 'an influential person' as you described previously? Rather, they refer to divinity. Don't get hooked in your own word games. That put to corner. . . [s]Religion as defined by many scholars spread over atheism[/s]. Going by your conventional religion definition stated as worship of deity, [s]atheism is still under the tent of religion[/s].Yet again, you refer to religion as an ideology, which is fine until you decide to put Christianity under the same umbrella. Since when did definitions by random professors trump those of dictionaries? If that's the case, here are some other individual definitions... "Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of a spiritless situation. It is the opiate of the people." ~ Karl Marx "Religion is the daughter of Hope and Fear, explaining to ignorance the nature of the Unknowable." ~ Ambrose Bierce So pls tell me sir, from the two definitions how atheism doesnt fit in.You pick two random individual definitions that more or less describe philosophies and ask me how atheism doesn't fall under? Ok... |

laniyi07: What is particularly noticeable is the way the Genesis flood story follows the Gilgamesh flood tale "point by point and in the same order", even when the story permits other alternatives. In a 2001 Torah commentary released on behalf of the Conservative Movement of Judaism, rabbinic scholar Robert Wexler stated: "The most likely assumption we can make is that both Genesis and Gilgamesh drew their material from a common tradition about the flood that existed in Mesopotamia. These stories then diverged in the retelling." http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_of_Gilgamesh |

folaski: lolzzz... atheism is just disbelief in any god or gods... i see no way its a religion... its not belief, it is asking for evidence .."Prove it" before i believe... its just a way of saying "I dont want to believe, i want to know" So i think y'all should go check the definition of religion again.. 1 Like |
