No Gains For Almajiri Schools’ Graduates – Fashola by macpetrus(m): 7:28am On Mar 13, 2015 |
Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, says the Almajiri schools being established by the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government in the northern part of the country have no feasible end gains. Fashola said this at an event on Thursday ─ Support Our Schools Breakfast Meeting with the Governor─ held at the City Hall on the Lagos Island. The governor explained that the purpose of training someone was for the person to be able to use the knowledge gained and the skills acquired to his benefit and the good of society. He said that could not be said of the Almajiri schools as they had no competitive advantage for the graduates. He said, “If you train people to acquire certain skills, you must develop avenue where the skills will be useful and that will be the end gain. For instance, graduates of our technical and vocational colleges will become our major contractors. “And so, it worries me, what is the end gain of products of the Almajiri schools? Will you put your child there? Will a company looking through its job appraisal consider such graduates from Almajiri schools? What chance will the product of the Almajiri schools have working for multinational companies? Are we giving the children a chance when we segregate them into Almajiri schools? Think about it.” Fashola said as part of measures to encourage vocational and technical education in the state, his administration had issued over 600 contracts as annual maintenance projects of Lagos schools, adding that graduates of the state’s technical schools were the main beneficiaries. “We have issued maintenance contract to all our schools. We have issued about 600 contracts of annual maintenance of our schools and they ranged between N2m to N4m per annum. Our graduates in the technical and vocational colleges are the substantial beneficiaries of the contracts. We now want to ensure that every school in Lagos has regular and uninterrupted power supply,” he added. Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Olayinka Oladunjoye had expressed government’s gratitude to organisations that embraced the ‘Support our school’ initiative, saying the support had contributed to the success of the Fashola’s administration in the educational sector. http://www.punchng.com/news/no-gains-for-almajiri-schools-graduates-fashola/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter 18 Likes 2 Shares |

Fashola attacks with facts. Descartes:@bold...you must have attended an almajiri school where pupils sit on the floor while their federal government goes about boasting as it's an incredible achievement southwest people are very sophisticated in the sense that they see through falsehood, unlike you "azikiwe" slaves CyberWolf:what we are saying is that he should stop boasting about it as if it's something unique he did. With all the resources at his disposal, it's a mere school where kids sit on the floor he's basing his campaign on KwoiZabo:can you compare the above pictures with the picture of amaechi's school below? www.nairaland.com/attachments/2204470_tl_jpegb89a925f5325a7d7309210447889112d 62 Likes 2 Shares |

What is fashola trying to say,?that the school is of no benefit to the people? Is a pity that a man of his level can just come out in public to expose the level of his IQ, well to make him understand better...you count one before counting two, fashola want the government to register them into the same school he trains his children in to enable them compete with others 90 Likes 5 Shares |

Fashola i really like you but the way you are going is really becoming embarassing.please ask yourself this few questions 1. What were the almajiri's doing before the schools were built? 2. What has the northern elite done over the years concerning the almajiri's? 3. Would it have been better if the schools were not built atall and this children be allowed to continue being used as a tool for violence? 4. Has the saying 'no knowledge gained is waste' all of a sudden become null and void because you want to oppose as an opposition that you are? You sir should know that knowledge frees the mind from mental slavery and we all know that some subjects has been added to their curricculum such as integrated science, maths etc which if this was done about two decades ago there would be a high probability that this issue of boko haram will not exists. Please sir always try to compare from various angles before you speak.you are not perfect,Gej is not perfect, buhari is not perfect but i'll still vote GEJ cause he made a move to give those children a better life. 217 Likes 24 Shares |

Fashola's outburst on Almajiri schools in d north is a clear evidence of the type of Govt that awaits Nigerians if APC wins. God forbid. Clearly apc will never give eduction priority. It is obvious Fashola prefers the almajiri roming the streets of d north rather than attending school whearas in Lagos where he is as governors children are attending schools. Clearly Fashola hates d north. No doubt too that Apc hates d north. Tinubu only wanted to use buhari to ascend d presidency with d hope buhari dies. 117 Likes 10 Shares |

Segeggs: No knowledge gained is a waste but rather its an empowerment to developing a creative mind which will enhance productivity and self actualization. Is the Governor saying that it is better for those kids without future to roam the streets of the North carrying plates and begging for food rather than to have a sound mind that will ensure they are not easily recruited by the likes of BOKO HARAM. is this not fighting terrorism indirectly ? We must not forget that no NORTHERN leader has EVER bothered to liberate the downtrodden in the North by initiating this kind of laudable project . JONATHAN established 9 universities in the NORTH to ensure NORTHERNERS are educated enough to avoid being deceived by religious elements whose game is use religion to destabilize the polity. 85 Likes 7 Shares |

These are he best hands in APC and they are talking nonsense. Almajiri schools are where gBOKO(western Education) runs side by side with Islamiya (Islamic education). We are talking about Basic education here that emancipates a man and help him fit into modern society and Fashola is trying to score cheap political points. 72 Likes 5 Shares |

Its is obvious that this supposedly wise Gov has never been to the norh or seen An Almajiri except in Pictures.... These schools no matter how unfeasible it is, is the best thing that happened to those kids.... At least they wud gain the knowledge of how their destiny is in their hands and how they can be anything they want to be, as opposed to the other brain washing teachings they get..... Finally, even if the only thing they learn is Personal Hygiene, That wud be a major achievement.. 62 Likes |

Fashola; what's wrong this time? New week, new complaint. Have you fixed the problems in Lagos? If you couldn't fix the problems in Lagos in 8 solid years; and you expect GEJ to fix all the problems in Nigeria in 4 years; then I won't be wrong to label you Nigeria most stu. pid governor. 75 Likes 2 Shares |

As for your talk on 9 universities, pls post pictures of the universities or keep quiet cos they only exist on newspapers. Check their shoddy websites for confirmation. 10 Likes 1 Share |

Re: No Gains For Almajiri Schools’ Graduates – Fashola by Nobody: 8:31am On Mar 13, 2015 |
From my understanding, Almajiri schools are just like our Primary Schools over here but with Islamic studies and basic maths, science etc. What can a kid do after Primary Education ? Simply put, it is the bedrock for continuation of Education. Jonathan did not stop at building 150 Almajiri schools, he went ahead to build 9 new Universities in the North in addition to the existing ones, these are also meant for kids that will graduate from the Almajiri schools to seek further education. I think Fashola has over the years become maligned and unreasonable, sometimes it beats my imagination why a person will hate progress of other tribes. He deported Igbos and Hausas sometimes ago, calling them social nuisance and misfits to Lagos, now he is kicking against Education of the kids in the North by the Federal Government. The truth in life is, you can make all the money, you can steal all the money, you can buy happiness, but you can not buy a reputation. You build a reputation. Fashola has unfortunately built a biased reputation and even the Yorubas will somehow state clearly that Fashola's legacy has been dwarfed by his senseless vituperation. 65 Likes 7 Shares |

Fashola utterances of late are indirectly against APC which he's suppose to promote. If you take time to analysis is recent outbursts during campaigns you will left with no choice than to conclude he's inflicting more injuries to already wounded APC. The other time he accused Agbaje of been too old whereas his presidential candidate is three old. Fash might be secretly working against his party interest. I think his party should place him under watch. 33 Likes 1 Share |

Fashola is becoming a wicked clown. Its obvious he prefers these kids to receive their classes under mango trees as usual then go begging in the evenings. Has he gone through the curricula of these schools ? The answer is a resounding NO 12 Likes 1 Share |
