Billyonaire: Firstly I am not an empty head so I reject that description. Maybe you have a point in that 99.999% of rich people in Nigeria are not crooks, maybe the figure is closer to 99.1% okay I stand corrected -if you read between the lines. Your response did not surprise me, Nigeria is the standard for you, your benchmark. I know people whose exposure is limited to Nigeria and you are one of them (This is not about travelling abroad spending a few weeks in New York or London, this is about interaction and being a part of a system that works and develops, prospers a nation and its people). Rogues or "million or Billion"aires who march up and down the Nigerian landscape are not known for their contribution to economy and industry (we have none) in the country, but only for "having money" Let GEJ and his voodoo economic team come out and tell Nigerian why we are here and why the largest "fictitious" economy in the Africa cannot feed its children, women, the old and other vulnerable people in society, while people like "Billyonaire" transverse the landscape bringing mayhem, instability, systemic failure, poverty, hunger, despair and hopelessness. I have seen few "Billionaires" in Nigeria die needlessly when they face simple health emergencies. You mentioned Dangote losing a portion of his wealth. What about the millions of hard working men and women in society whose purchasing power and savings have just been decimated? And yet it appears there is no government running the country. The purpose of life is not to come and accumulate unnecessary and needless wealth. If you dont know, everything is GEJ's fault - why? because he is the president and the welfare and economic security of 170m people lies with him. But this clueless ignoramus? God help us. |

kunle75:. Almajiri schools are meant to combine elements of Western education with their typical Madrasa education in a controlled environment. Should we leave impressionable youngsters at the mercy of radical clerics to fill their minds with hate for every moderate person including fellow Muslims? 1.4 million people did last JAMB, should people not aspire because we don't have 1.4 million places in uni/poly/monotechnics? Or because all graduates cannot get Shell BP jobs upon graduation? Did any other president/HoS proffer a better solution to Almajiri issue since 1960? In all prosperous countries worldwide, are all kids not compulsorily in school up to age of 14 to 16? Failure of previous governments contributed to the huge population Boko can recruit from. Should we not start doing something to prevent similar stuff, 20 years from now? Or you think it should be all about fire brigade approach of here & now? 1 Like |

Nawa o. It's really a shame that this APC politicians are up to no good for the country. They just don't want to acknowledge Jonathan's efforts in anyway. They keep giving stupid excuses all the time. Jonathan's regime has done more to the north than any northerner has ever done. But yet, they're so ungrateful and they keep hating him. They hated him even before he became a president for no reason. APC keeps blaming GEJ for everything. They've never ever commended anything good that he has done. They blamed and accused him for bringing boko haram to Nigeria, they blamed him for building almajiri schools and taking them off the streets, shockingly they also blamed him for the robbery that happened yesterday in Lagos. That is pure wickedness and not politics. I'm sick and tired of their sh*t. At least no matter the differences, learn to appreciate along with your criticism. Now we know so clearly who is clueless and senseless. This is a sure indication that APC can't do any good for our dear country Nigeria. VOTE Wisely |

theoctopus: The problem here with many of you is reading and comprehension . The question is, what's next for them after the almajiri education? What part of our socio economic existence in Nigeria employs the products of almajiri education and as what to do what. ? Btw, what ever college or university education you get is called skill. Skills is not limited to vocational education. |

[quote author=macpetrus post=31570082]Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, says the Almajiri schools being established by the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government in the northern part of the country have no feasible end gains. Fashola said this at an event on Thursday ─ Support Our Schools Breakfast Meeting with the Governor─ held at the City Hall on the Lagos Island. The governor explained that the purpose of training someone was for the person to be able to use the knowledge gained and the skills acquired to his benefit and the good of society. He said that could not be said of the Almajiri schools as they had no competitive advantage for the graduates. He said, “If you train people to acquire certain skills, you must develop avenue where the skills will be useful and that will be the end gain. For instance, graduates of our technical and vocational colleges will become our major contractors. “And so, it worries me, what is the end gain of products of the Almajiri schools? Will you put your child there? Will a company looking through its job appraisal consider such graduates from Almajiri schools? What chance will the product of the Almajiri schools have working for multinational companies? Are we giving the children a chance when we segregate them into Almajiri schools? Think about it.” Fashola said as part of measures to encourage vocational and technical education in the state, his administration had issued over 600 contracts as annual maintenance projects of Lagos schools, adding that graduates of the state’s technical schools were the main beneficiaries. “We have issued maintenance contract to all our schools. We have issued about 600 contracts of annual maintenance of our schools and they ranged between N2m to N4m per annum. Our graduates in the technical and vocational colleges are the substantial beneficiaries of the contracts. We now want to ensure that every school in Lagos has regular and uninterrupted power supply,” he added. Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Olayinka Oladunjoye had expressed government’s gratitude to organisations that embraced the ‘Support our school’ initiative, saying the support had contributed to the success of the Fashola’s administration in the educational sector. they wanted an almajiri school n now they have it... what is this dude saying... in Nigeria just everybody is talking.. right or wrong no one cares... |

I have been observing and noting fashola's comments lately, and i must say he's beginning to lose it big time. He should leave the real politiking to the politicians cos he isnt one. He seems to talk before thinking things through these days just cos he wants to promote apc at the expense of his reputation. Almajiri schools were targeted at a particular set of children that have been disadvantaged over the years leading to them being used to cause violence cos of their ignorance. If getting them to school to be refined is the only thing achieved, then its worth commending. When your house is on fire, you direct all your efforts at quenching it first before any other considerations, same applies here, lets get them out of their ignorance then we would know what we would do with them when we get to that bridge. |

Here is one of fasholas school. This school is located in Agungi Lekki Area. A supposed rich peoples environenviron. How can a man whose house is not in perfect order run down another just for vane sayings. So he would rather have the almajiria roaming the streets and later trained to be bokos then give them a school?. No wonder even under his nose where education is highly valued some kids attend this kind of school. Smh 1 Like
