Nope, Hope was introduced as Bola's maid, right from the beginning. In the first scene when Bola was introduced, I wrote that she had Bola's son(then a baby) strapped to her back when she opened the gate for Tade.

However, Bola has a younger sister that much has not been said about.

Chapter 19


Mellowing out with a chilled bottle of beer, Bola supervised Hope's cleaning of the kitchen; washing the sinks, cleaning the cooker and wiping off stains from the wall tiles. Time for another bottle of beer...The doorbell rang.

Bola hated uninvited guests and she did her best to avoid them.

But fate had other ideas.

Ten p.m. Who could that be? Bola got irritated, then she became nervous. They've been carried away by the cleaning- the gate was still unlocked. She dropped her empty can of beer in the trash can. Hope moved towards the door, but Bola waved her away. She tip toed to the door, using the peep hole.

Standing on the lit porch, clutching a side bag and smiling sheepishly was Gboye. Bola hissed loud enough to make a rattler envious of her skills, before opening the door for him. He pretended like he didn't hear.

Gboyega Adewole, had a way of dropping by whenever he chose to, sometimes staying up to three, four days at a stretch. Bola tolerated him because they had grown up together, hawked together and tilled their parents farmlands together as teenagers, in Ilobu.

They all went to secondary school together and remained closely knitted until university separated them. Gboye had lived a reckless life as an undergraduate, had even traveled to South Africa for sometime, only to return to rewrite JAMB. He'd had brushes with the law enforcement agencies, survived cult attacks. Before Bola's sudden fortune, the only time family heard from him had to do with money. Now, he had become a parasite.


"Hi, Bolatito."

Without answering him, she called out to Hope to go and lock the gate. Hope dashed past her, exchanging quick glances with Gboye. She had become excited at his presence.

"What are you doing here this weekend, and by this time, Gboyega?" She picked her second can of beer from the well stocked fridge in the kitchen. She opened the can and sipped, without offering Gboye any.

He walked towards the fridge! But Bola would have none of it. "Don't even dare, gboyega. I didn't offer you refreshment, don't entertain yourself."

He smiled. "I'm hungry o, what can I eat?"

"Visitors who come late don't get the offer of food." She told him.

"I've not had anything after my breakfast today. Bola, please---"

"Ghoyega, you have siblings in Oshogbo, why have you chosen to bother me, your cousin with your incessant visits?" She asked, anger evident in her rising voice. Hope entered the kitchen and continued cleaning.

"Eh...stop the cleaning. Go and put my babies on the bed and tuck them in, or are they going to sleep on the couch till tomorrow? Amebo!"

Hope's hope of listening in to their conversation was dashed. With a sunken spirit, she walked out of the kitchen.

"I need to talk to you." Gboye finally said. He had dropped his side bag at his feet, while he leaned on the fridge with one hand. "Can we talk in your room?"

Bola suddenly became nervous. Gboye has never sounded this serious. She smelled trouble. A run-in with the law again? A pregnant girlfriend? Money? She stood up from the footstool and lead him to her room.

He sat quietly on the dressing chair, while bola sat on the well-made bed, her hand on chin.

"I need one million naira." He broke the silence.

Bola laughed out loud. "I honestly don't print money, Gboye."

Unperturbed, he answered, "I know, but you have it. I'm sorry it may sound like blackmail, but I have Wande Johnson's data. Don't let me go get the money from her."

Bola looked at him with scorn. "So, you want to blackmail me after all I've done for you?" She shook her head and looked at him with disgust. "I honestly don't care. Tell her, I don't mind."

Gboye adjudted himself on the seat, removed his shoes and socks, releasing a nasty stench.

"Please take your shoes outside."

He quickly did and returned within seconds. "Bola, have you told Tade he is not the father of------"

"Shut the hell up, Gboye. Pick your miserable self, your smelly shoes and get out of my house this instant. Call my husband on his hotline, maybe he'll listen to your BS." With that, she dragged him out of the seat and pushed him out of the room.

"I'm sorry bola, I'm so sorry..." He pleaded.

"Hope!" She shouted. "Pick the gate key and see this man out of the gate."

"Ma, it's eleven pm o!" Hope reminded her

"So?" She relaxed a bit. "Ok, I'll let you crash for the night. When I wake up, please don't let me see you again.". She faced him.

"I promise you, I'll be gone before you wake up." He said dejectedly. His plans had gone awry. He should have been more subtle, he thought. Bola had been really nice to him, he had miscalculated.

Bola headed back to her room, sat down on the bed, head bowed in deep thoughts. She looked at her phone. Gboye must have gone through it when she was careless. She became so agitated. How much does he know? To give in to his demand or not? What if he had evidence? Had she been too harsh on him? Time will tell, she thought as she relaxed on the bed, her opened can of beer getting warm on the bedside table.

Chapter 20

Tade left his office just in time to get caught in the rush-hour traffic on the Dugbe axis. He was heading towards gate-iwo road and he knew he was going to be stuck for a while. He considered postponing his trip to Oshogbo, but he was particularly eager to get this over with. He cut in front of cars at will, receiving angry honks and verbal abuse in the process. At the first opportunity, he eased the CRV out of the built up traffic and headed to gate, taking customs.

Dr Bet was expecting the samples before six p.m. He had told Bola a web of lies so he can have access to his kids in her absence. Charles had advised him to wait till today- his baby's birthday and take the two of them out, to make it easy for him to get the swabs without Bola's suspicion. Now, he drove like a maniac so he could get to the children's school before two p.m, take them out and return them home before four p.m, set out and be in ibadan before six.

He had pleaded with charles to go with him, but charles had refused, even though he had been helpful with the dna stuff. Josh had taken the day off. He was left alone. He felt his suit's inner pocket for the hospital envelopes meant for the oral sawbs, found it and relaxed again. By now, he had linked the Asejire express road. Fridays are always tough for commuters in ibadan.

By 1:49pm, he pulled up in front of the kids' school. First, he picked the girl then went for Dele. They were excited to see him. He had introduced himself to the proprietress and their minders as their uncle, of course, bola had notified the school about their uncle's visit.

"Daddy!" Dele screamed and jumped at him.

"Hey! Young man." He lifted him up and hugged him. "Happy birthday, princess." He lifted her up too and kissed her forehead.

She looked beautiful in her princess Sophia dress and shoe. It was her one year birthday. How time flies, Tade thought. The twins will clock nine months in a matter of days.

He handed out a large Barbie and cookies to his baby girl, a huge toy car to his boy. The kids were very excited. He took them to Spices and returned them to a very anxious Bola by 3:58pm. He set out for ibadan almost immediately. He really hoped the dna result will come out positive.

He rang Charles immediately he hit the ikire/Asejire lap of the journey. He had promised to take Wande and the twins out later in the day.

"Charley, how far?"

"Ore, do you have it?"

"Yes o! Please, you'll just help me drop it with the doctor so I can meet up with Wande."

"Right. We meet at Tantalizers."

"Thanks for being a wonderful friend, charles."

Josh had deserted him. The only thing he's been doing lately is his driving job. He even had to call in sick today of all days!

His phone rang again.

"Hey, honey!" It was Wande

"Babe, I'm just leaving the meeting venue. I'll pick you guys in twenty or less."

He heaved a big sigh of relief as his car picked up speed.

Truth be told, Tade was practically a nobody before he met Wande. Wande didnt just pick him up. She spoilt him and now hez rotten. One tin i knw for sure is that, with how influential Wande's family is, thaey'd do everytin to get back most of the tinx Tade took away.

I'm afraid you havent, cos if you do, you will know that fraud or no fraud, he's still the father of her kids, and nothing can change that, and from the look of things, it's not that Wande cant pack out of that house for him now, but she still stay with him, and do you know why?
