farm price of pig is now 290-300 per kg.
farmers sell at different sizes to different customers. typically from 50kg upwards.. duration to attain market weight depends on the quality of your feed and other management practices.
pigs are usually sold for slaughter from 6months upwards, weight at this age depends on what you do right or wrong

Finally,I have been able to read every posts on this thread from beginning to the end. I never wanted to contribute till I finish reading the thread. A very great thread I must commend. One of the few threads in nairaland that never got derailed nor had abuses or insults after 16 pages. (very rear on nairaland)
I am starting a pig farm. I have made my studies and I just started my civil construction. I will be visiting most of the farms I noticed on this thread even as far as Ilorin.
very great thread.
May God bless us all in all our endeavors.
There is this saying in my language (Ishan) that if you rear pigs and pigs serve you and yet you don't get reach, it will be difficult for such person to get rich in any other business

please house why is large white breed very selective,i just got one and due to transportation stress, i gave ironiii ,multivamin,and LA,i observed slugglish attiutude ,i decided to mingle with other breed ,come see serious fight grin i need to seperate them and left some before getting home the animal is very week,i need to call vet for proper medical treatment but d animal dont eat cassava peel but they rush fresh bread,i put cabbage not acceptable,i want to know best feed for this breed
pigs are social animals dt will resist an intruder. And when u take an animal frm its abode it will take days if nt weeks to acclimatise to its nw environment. You cant expect a pig dt has been feed all tru its life concentrates and expect it to b happy wt cassava peelings wc contains little nutrients. Wt age is d large white and what composition of feed are u giving? because for me large white has good appetite.

Hi Fellow farmers,

It is another season, our sow has farrowed, and am selling off the weaners

We have about 180 weaners off for grabs 80 females and 100 Males, all a mix of

Large white ( Obasanjos breed) + PIC, SA ( www.pic.com) ( PIC 433 and PIC 310 semens). all born from thru Artificial Insemination

My weaners vary in weight from 8kg-15kg of weight, they are between 35days old to 45days old.

Am selling them for N8,000 each , at the ratio of ( 2 females to 1 Male). ( Minimum of 10 females and 5Males)

I will recommend it majorly for those looking for breeders stock

Our farm is based in ilorin, Kwara State; but we have a van that does delivery at a " reasonable fee".

if you buy a minimum of 30 ( 20 females + 10 Males) we will consult for you, give you

feed formula ,pig premix from SA, visit your farm and make recommendations;
and on a monthly basis get an e-mail from us to check on the stock you have bought from us, and how they are doing and advice .

Our first batch will go out on 21st of March; and the last batch will be 5th of April.

We also have some sow we intend to sell off ( majorly for consumption) @ N350 per kg, they are from 150kg-250kg.

We dont allow visitors/ especially pig farmers to our farm because of bio-security.

Kindly contact me via e-mai: deji@fulfillsa.co.za

Bros why is your animal more expensive as per the cost of 350 per kg. Its still way below that in Lagos not forgetting that logistics would still be added.
I like the weaners. We will talk more on that
Re: Pig Farmers Lets Meet Here by dejia(m): 11:28pm On Mar 13, 2015
@ Akhis:

Thanks for your comment, i think expensive is a relative word; some people sell weaners for N2,500 some sell for N8,000 i know of another farm that sells its own for N20,000; pork is sold for N600 in Lagos and in some other places in Lagos it is sold for N1,300; local pigs are sold for N250, some N300 per kg; you have pure water for N5 and table water for N50 ; both thru the same purification process.
Pigs are different from pigs, the quality of meat, the fat level and other factors matters.

Hello Fellow farmers,

Thanks for those who have mailed and orders.

I have received several questions, and i feel its best i answer them thru this platform, so that many others can learn from it

* Can your pigs achieve 80kg in 6months after weaning?

My answer it is YES , but with other conditions , i always like to compare pigs with Chicken

A broiler can achieve 2kg weight in 10weeks, if feed well and taken care of.

if you buy broilers and you dont offer it balanced diet, it wont achieve 2kg within 10weeks, meaning

breed isnt all that is required; you need the following to get the best FCR

* Good Breed ( Genetics)

* Good Feed

* Good Management

The 3 works hard in hard, if you cant practice the 3 correctly, pls dont bother to buy my weaners. I will recommend

you buy cheap weaners; ( if you cant do the same, dont buy broilers, go and buy local chicken).

** When can i get A.I training etc?

I did mine in kanhym estate in SA; they have about 6,000 sow; i dont know anybody offering it in Nigeria
I only know of about 2 farms with A.I facilities, but at the moment, they dont offer training, neither do they sell semens to other farmers

I also think the training might be useful, if you dont have access to semens.

We are looking at setting up a small A.I Station before the end of the year and will offer training.

** Can you i get in-sow from A.I?

We have had several request for this, in the past we have decline, because of the challenges with moving in-sow on bad roads
but we want to give it a trial;

We have selected some sow, that will be inseminated 22nd of March; by the 20th of April, with our pregnancy detector, we will be certain.

we will be able to deliver from the 30th of April for those who have paid; in-sow are always tricky and risky;

its 50/50; i dont recommend it for 1st timers.

it will cost 70k each.

@ Julibaba:

* * I dont have pictures of my sow right now; i only got one see attached.am in SA, will be back on the farm by weekend to inseminate

* We dont have boars, we only use artificial insemination; i have posted some pictures in the past

Why is your weaner 8000. are you selling pig or cow. how much will i sell 8000 weaner to make a gain.

This idea is a bogus marketing trick which cannot profit a farmer.

As a nairalander you suppose to help new farmers to achieve easily not reap them off.

In the picture you post i can see some runt piglets and not pure like those online.

your price is fraudulent .why no farmer so far testify your pig is super and you say no visitor can come to your farm.

you are a sweet mouth marketer not real farmer. pig is not expensive like you project and misled.

I advice beginner to go out and findout facts not from internet scam behaving as farmer
Re: Pig Farmers Lets Meet Here by eazeefix: 5:06pm On Mar 16, 2015
This is open market Deji is a committed pig farmer and his efforts to improve our genetics should be commended.
He is offering breeders not Fattener pigs. I bought 6 breeder 12 weeks old growers from obasanjo farm @ 30k each. So where is the fraud.
If you are a breeder you wouldn't mind the cost of introducing superior genes into your brood.
I am buying a few from him becos I am looking for some traits I want to stamp into my pigs.
If you can't afford his pigs it is Ok but I do not subscribe to the insults. It is an open market. I sell my breeders for 5k I don't sell my fatteners someone came from oke aro and packed 25 she wanted 20 so fellow farmers if u see what u like and like what u see u won't mind paying for it.

I remember some of the words of my grandpa:

There will always be distractions in a market place, but a focused trader minds his business without bothering about the noise distractions.

Buy if you can afford, walk away if you cannot afford. No insults, no name calling.

Only those that values gold will see the intrinsic value in a gem.

I doubt if these guys are actually serious pig farmers.
If they think his terms are ridiculous, let them pay a visit to Obj's farm.
-i guarantee them the price will be higher. I've bought pregnant sows from there so I know.
-they will never allow anyone in. If you don't like the way they do business, walk away.
People should try and make their investigations before coming online making false accusations.
Fyi, I've been selling large white weaners for N8,000 for two years now so there is nothing new there.
