Nice, but you should have given us space to ask question, or are you just out to market your people? They look disarming though. My question is, how do your people see Africans? |

Penssuwa:I mean, i wanted to show my people since i know most of you have never been exposed to us. But yeah my bad bro. Well, Dominicans see Africans as anybody else see them, i dont want to sound bad but u know how the typical image of Africans is portray around as all poor, asking for food, etc which of course i know its no true bcs many African countries are booming. The average Dominicans dont think much about Africans, and neither about Europeans, Dominicans embrace their African heritages, which is already blend in our mix culture. But the view of Africans is not that strong because most Dominicans arent expose to them but only throw the media and we all already know how the media works about Africans. Honestly there isnt much influence straight from Africa, the only influence we have is the one that came around 300-500 years ago. Dominicans dont look much outside of the Latin America zone... Am talking about the majority, but there are some minority Dominicans who would look up to Africans as a people of Africaness cultural influence. Dont worry, if you meet a Dominican, they wont be racist or have a bad view about, many would threat you great as any person bcs we also have black Dominicans and we all see each other as the same. 3 Likes |

yodanyrd: Your pictures are great and all, but you have diversity in Africa as well, Which is not a big deal. So diversity is not new, and this is only west Africa, image entire continent vs a little island. Instead of spanning million pictures of people. Post historical monuments, Tell us your history, How healthy is the Dominican Republic economy. Tell us about your infrastructure of post them rail, business area, Telecommunication or IT areas. . Post different cities, and what is village or your small town like. Those of the things i like to know and make a comparison. 4 Likes |

MisterG: Nah bro, dont take it personal, i dont know much how u guys deal here, so dont take offense from me bro. I was posting pics of my people.. i dont know why u sound mad.. Well they are many such as Lembar the FIRST slave man in the whole Americas Continent to revort against the Spanish which we Dominicans take pride on him. We have the Indian Native Enriquillo who grow up among the Spanish in Santo Domingo in the early 1,500's and he was the first Indian to take many Indians and rebelled against the Spanish occupation of the island and even success for a while bcs the Spanish made a deal to leave the Indians alone. We have many White Spanish Dominicans who fought against the Spaniards from Spain such as Caceres, & Juan Pablo Duarte. We also have Mulatos(Mixes) such Gregorio Luperon who fought against the Haitian brutal military occupation. We Dominicans are proud of all our herous, no matter if they were Indians, Black, White, Mixes, or anything. Dominicans Republic is currently the 9th largest economy in Latin America. Its a Caribbean Regional Power, its the second economy in Central-America / Caribbean. It has one of the biggest Top economy grow in the whole Americas with a grow of 7.5%, while most L.A. countries economy grow 1.5%. We have one of the most fatest & moder Metro Train in Latin America, we had it around 2010-11. Its very new and run throw out the Capital. We have one of the best internet & telecommunications access in Latin America, most Dominicans own phones, or smart phones. The internet, one of the faster in the Caribbean. Many people who dont know much about Dominicans, think we are just the "Spanish speaking" version of Haitians. |

Another question; do you guys listen to African songs or have you listened to any African music? Do you have any popular musician in ur country....and his name. Do you have any perculiar culture or are your people of the too-liberal type. |

Penssuwa: No brother, i have never meet or seem a Dominican listening to African songs, & pretty sure even if they would want too, it would be hard to find it. I actually did watched some African music videos few months ago, i end up in an African youtube channel and from there i watched some, there was one which is call "mama africa" i think that's how its call.. but trying to listen to them, no so much cuz i dont understand the language, buti do love the rhymes. Oh YEAH.. haven't you heard of BACHATA music?? wow that's weird, it's all over the world, it's a international genre. We have the highest paid & famous Latino musician which is Remeo Santos His video are one of the most watched in youtube. Romeo Santos: "Propuesta Indecente" 628,000,000 Million views. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFs3PIZb3js He also have others songs/videos. I will post them later. Also we have Prince Royce with his "Darte Un Bezo" 503,000,000 Million views. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdOXnTbyk0g They are both Dominicans. Bachata is one of the most top know/best music in Latin America. It's instruments are a mixture of our Spanish guitar and our African bongos and other western influence & native Dominican instrument influences. We also have other Very Highly famous singers such as Juan Luis Guerra J Alvarez Arcangel Nicky Jam(half DR) and others. 1 Like |

Penssuwa: Well, like most Latin America countries, our culture is base mostly in the country Latin(southern Euro) base Cultural influence, in other words, catholic, latin base language, tradition, etc. The country was once very conservative but now we have a more open mid country, with some areas still conservative and other specially the cities very liberals. |

Re: I Am Dominican From Dominica Republic... ASK Me Anything. by yodanyrd: 11:55pm On Mar 19, 2015 |
teeowl: Well, if you mean discrimination between Dominicans, no there isn't. Dominicans are a very united people despite our difference in colors, races, and phenotype. If there could be any discrimination, it could happen between a very high class white Dominicans who might want to keep the whiteness and no let any of her children marry a darker one. What we have in D.R. it Classism. Which mean you can be dark a.f. but if you have money, you are look up too and you can be the whitest looking Dominican and if you are poor, you would be treat like any body else or sometime worse depend on who you are. With this, am not saying people go around treating each other bad lol, but it's just an example. So yeah, Classism is what we have.. no so much racism... Now, of course, some Dominicans don't want nothing to do with Haitians, Let Me Make this Clear.. Dominican do not like Haitians NOT because they are black.. that's a lie and a fallacy against us. There are many black Dominicans and we all treat each other with respect and see each others as brothers. However Dominicans have some negative view about Haitians because of our pass history and their massacre & occupation of our territory, our high different in economy/religion and the way they carry themselves which is very different from us. Many Haitians are entering the country illegal and are taking jobs away from Dominicans by getting cheap pay which have furious many Dominicans. Dominicans are 10 Million and now the country have almost 3 Million Haitians who 98.9% are Illegals, which is costing the country more than 500 Million dollars per years by giving them free education, free health care, and other costs which they would have to pay back in Haiti. This is why 70% of Haitians don't know how to read/write because they gotta pay to get education in Haiti. 1 Like |

yodanyrd: Definitely not mad. You should had use a map first, as showing the location of your country, not everyone knows where or what a Dominican is. If i ask my fellow East African (horner), he or she would not have a clue what that is or what a Dominican is, because you are not in the radar from our perspective. Then you present your people, and show pictures of your different cities, from people enjoying themselves in restrauants, entertainment, train systems, business district, etc. You should had presented it similar to this. It would been more enjoyable instead of a parade. https://www.nairaland.com/2199930/northern-kenya-culture-people https://www.nairaland.com/2111309/east-african-coast-culture-people https://www.nairaland.com/2081752/cushitic-people-most-beautiful-people Yours is more like picture porn, in comparison to what Gallivant presented in regards to Kenya. However it is all good continue on. What is your cultural music or traditional dances. 1 Like |

MisterG: I mean, am now here, and never knew people would make tread like that. It's true what you said, i should had give more information. I thought many already knew about us, because i search "Dominican" and it was mentioned in many treads. Thanks for giving me some tips. But next time, have some respect for my people, they might look "porn" but you need to remember, we are Latin-Western world, so it's more a liberal thing than anything else. I wouldn't call it porn when many in the picture of the Kenya tread appear almost naked, no offense but you get what am saying. Now, our traditional music are Bachata, Merengue, Mambo, Perico Ripiao but the most famous ones throw out L.A. are the first 2 and they are a blend of Euro/Afro heritage. We have a more Afro tradional dance call "Palos". 3 Likes |

yodanyrd: I mean, am now here, and never knew people would make tread like that. It's true what you said, i should had give more information. I thought many already knew about us, because i search "Dominican" and it was mentioned in many treads Probably so, I am not here on Nairaland that often to notice. Maybe due to a possibility your people are related to them, whereas the website i normally visit Ethiopian, Eritreans, and Somali your people are not in our radar. Since we are not related to you, in a genetic level. Kenya tread appear almost naked, no offense but you get what am saying. It is the contexts, anyone can see nothing is sexual and that the societies he presented are traditional from his first thread. Now, our traditional music are Bachata, Merengue, Mambo, Perico Ripiao but the most famous ones throw out L.A. are the first 2 and they are a blend of Euro/Afro heritage. I wonder if that similar to Cuban Salsa music. |

yodanyrd:Wow, thatz a nice one indeed, but frankly speaking, it beats me to hear that you've not heard African songs that much, especially at this age when African musics are rocking airwaves in America. Maybe you can google these songs: Beautiful Onyinye by P square ft Rick Ross , Personally by P square, Aye by Davido & Black is beautiful by Flavour. I'll surely check those videos u posted the links at my leisure. |
