@the guy requesting for value adding to onion. There is no value added to onions world wide.

The only improvement may be that if the op own a store at mile12 and sell for long than for short, but of what use if she can sell them on the spot and satisfy with the profit?.

She can as well distribute them to hotels, hospitals, etc with her own van or export them.but all these are not value adding.value adding is like tomatoes=Tin Tomatoes, yam=pound yam flour. Etc you cant turn onions to something else.

I have a j5 load of onions (onions with the stems not cut) enroute to port harcourt. Unfortunately the friend that encouraged me to send them down is a liar and has "vanished". I don't even where to take them, talk less of selling process. They will be expected in port harcourt tomorrow noon due to vehicle break down. What do i do? Do you have contacts in port harcourt too? Or can anyone help me out pls.

WoW. Its only in the north that this type of onions is being consumed. When it gets to PH, the stem will have to be removed and then re-bagged. Also the union in PH is another issue. I hope you don't run at shortage because you will be charged. I will try and help in my own little way sir.

Catered 4.. I just created time in my busy office to read ur tread from the begining to the end. I must say, u are an inspiration to our younger generation.. I always av passion for buying and selling even with my white collar job.. I am gbenga by name. I live and work in zaria... Sometin lead to the other as i found myself bringing nice ijebu garri from south to north. Discovered my colleages in d office loved it cos ijebu garri is far better than available zaria garri in the market. The network just started from there as i now see enough colleages and most of them southern families asking for the ijebu garri..
Financial breakdown..
I buy like 10 bags for a start @ 8,500
Transported them 1,500 per bag to zaria..
And sold them 14,000 per bag here in zaria...some in bags, some in half and quater..
There are some expences like 1000 for logistics like recharge card, bacco sack, nylon, and local fueling of my sienna bus within zaria for home delivey... In all...i see 3,000 per bag sha... Which i believe is better than doing all this online business that u wont be sure if u will even see ur capital at the end..
Why am i posting this?
Am posting this to see partners like myself in the northern part of the country, so we could partner i get a bigger number of bag of garri that a trailler or 911 could carry with reduce price like 1000 for a bag..
And also i av a trust worthy elder woman along lagos - ibadan express that i place my order...
I can check me out on facebook if u douth my authenticity.... Engr onakomaya adegbenga... My number is 07032728941...
Lastly, i av to appologise to Catered4 for posting this on her trend..promised to personally call u to apologise.. Peace my people..

U mean 50kg?

Catered4:

U mean 50kg?

I thought the full bag weighs 50kg? The half bags i saw at the market here in my hometown(Nnewi) was really half and small, just like half of 50kg. Pls help me make enquiry from them and how much they sell. Thank you.
Re: A Nairalander Tales Of Her Onions Business by Derbyman(m): 9:14am On Mar 23, 2015
Catered4:

Here is the breakdown sir.
A bag is N9500 for mixed onions and N 11,000 for big onions
The loading from the farm to the park (Alabaru) is N100 per bag
The sack and raffia is N200
Transportation - Trailer is N1200, J5 is N1500 and 18 seater is more.
Now a bag of onions in the market goes for N14,000, N15,000 or more depending on the state, location and market or even companies buying from you (supply).
So sir do your calculation yourself. Thank you sir.

Madam debbydee please can you explain what you mean by stories that touch. I want to believe that when I opened this thread, I never asked anyone reading to go into the onion business. I was only refering to all those who intends starting the business not just onions but all foods. I also remember calling the attention of all those who are already into the business to come shed more light on the business.
So far so good, Ive met those who are into other food business aside onions and I asked them to drop it on the thread in case if there are some persons interested in going into it. I have personally linked some up with clients who are interested in trading from the south to the north. I dont do business with un-verified persons and I will not encourage anyone to do the same. So whats with you and this stories that touch.
If you've had a bad experience before or now, why dont you let us know instead of parading my thread with stories that touch.
Judging from your profile and your previous post, you are a business woman I believe. You have one way or the othere advertised yourself and I want to believe you are doing what you are doing because of the passion you have for it. Your customer choose you because they love it and are willing to patronise you. If I dont like the cloth on your Dp, I wont patronise you. I must like it first before I can call you.

Like wise everyone in this thread. Everyone of them are not COPY CAT. This business is not just for one person. The market is opened to all. It now depends on how every individual go about it. They all have every right to make use of the opened opportunity if they choose to...
Isn't it funny? Your own fellow woman opened a thread, shared her experience, and the best you could do is to say stories that touch. Not even a word of encouragement from you. A guy posted his Ijebu garri business on my thread and you are quick to encourage him to avoid stories that touch. Madam I don't know you before and I believe we haven't met. If we have, then reveal yourself right here on the thread. I don't do dirty business.
If you've had a bad experience, why don't you spill it out and let everyone learn from your experience.
I'm not here to scam anyone. I've never done it before and I will never do it. I wont soil my name and my husband name for some bags of onions. I have those who wants to partner with me but I told them NO. I don't need one. Each man to his own business. I'm ok with what I'm doing. I'm a responsible wife and mother. I cherish my dignity. A good name is better than Diamond Biko. I'm a business woman and by Gods grace, God has been so faithful. #GodWin.

There are some persons here on nairaland that ran away with my bags of onions without paying (a male and a female). They know them selves. I didnt come here shouting stories that touch. I left it for God. 'Allah Isa'.

Please I will appreciate everyone minding their business. If you are here for the agri food business, then drop whatever it is you have to say or ask. If not, kindly read and leave the thread. No offence please!

Thank you!
