patches689: Your helicopter is carrying an unarmed, open roof, slow speed, dry land only, zero armour protection Gecko vehicle and you call that an advantage Fool, your air force can even carry Keke Marwa Tricycle instead of Gecko NAF, I meant Mi-171 Terminator can carry VBL light armoured vehicles while "The multifunctional cargo cabin has a length of 5.34m, width of 2.34m and a height of 1.8m. It provides enough internal space to carry 4,000kg of payload. "The Mi-171Sh was specifically designed for operating in combat missions in local armed conflicts." The helicopter can transport up to 4,000kg of cargo externally under sling. The main cabin features internal winch facilities, while the floor has tie-down rings for cargo transport." http://www.army-technology.com/projects/mi-171sh-combat-transport-helicopter/ Nigerian air force armed combat Super Puma helicopters can do the same job. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurocopter_AS332_Super_Puma NAF has two options, our Mi-171 helicopter and Super Puma can each carry 4,000 kg load, so any of them can sling airlift our army's combat 3,500 kg VBL amphibious light armoured vehicles to frontline. PROVED. Obsolete SANDF has no LAV that a helicopter can carry, or you helicopter want to carry your MRAP ? . 1 Like |

patches689: India has NOT bought one single Rafale till today, and they are NOT replacing Su-30, India is just spreading it's weapon procurement base to include both western and eastern origin to avoid crippling effect of arms embargo, like Pakistan is now doing same after F-16 political issues, Pakis now add Chinese JF-17 to their air force combat inventory list, or does that mean the JF-17 is replacing the F-16 ? Use your head....oh sorry, your Southie nation produces world bottom level brains . 3 Likes |

patches689: Delivery date means NOTHING, your SAAF got the old 1995 Gripen C/D version and NOTHING more than that ! Brazil is buying the more modern Gripen E and Sweden is doing the same. Your SAAF Gripen C/D version is obsolescent since 20 years ago it was introduced into service, 20 year old version and obsolescent . . 2 Likes |

agaugust: THE QUESTION IS: DID THEY RECEIVE ORDERS TO RAP.E SELEKA OR NOT? THEY WERE ONLY SENT TO GUARD SAFE WITHDRAWAL OF SOUTH AFRICAN TROOPS. HOWEVER, ONLY SIX GRIPENS WILL RAP.E THE WHOLE OF NAF. FACT!!!! FACT!!!! FACT!!!! |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Msauza(m): 6:42am On Mar 26, 2015 |
agaugust: THE FIRST GRIPENS WERE FIRST INTRODUCED IN 1997. SOUTH AFRICAN GRIPENS WERE MANUFACTURED IN 2005 AND THE FIRST BATCH WERE DELIVERED IN 2010 FOLLOWED BY OTHERS AROUND 2012. SOUTH AFRICAN GRIPENS ARE STILL NEW FROM THE BOX CHIEF. |

Henry120:You just proved my point mate! Gripen has: Better Wing loading(making it more maneuverable) Better Stall speed Better Rang Better avionics Better RCS Can land/takeoff on way shorter run ways Faster carries the same load, % wise compared to its empty weight. Enough said, thanks for the spec btw! you helped prove my point. |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by patches689: 7:25am On Mar 26, 2015 |
agaugust: First you said that you could carry the Cobra has well So now its only one LAV Then you said it was the Hind and the M171 Now its only the M171 Your story keeps changing. So you have one platform that can carry one LAV? So what? This all goes back to your orignional point of argument: lack of standardization of nigerian military equipment. You have two types of LAV when you only need one? SANDF has the capabilility and actually trains to perform us - show us Nigeria slinging one vehical under a helicopter. Your pilots and men dont know how to do it! So, first 1. Explain why you need 2 LAV's (apart from the fact that your military is poorly designed and planned and has ended up with a disorganized mess) 2. Show us the Nigerian military training for "air-lift" capabilities. And FYI - we do have a ULAV... its called the Hornet, look it up |

Henry120: Generals don't buy equipment, only Nigerian Generals do. The Gripens are rotated I produce the evidence provide by SAAF General at the Seriti commission about how they were operated, and crawled back to your cave. Only to come back now with the same claim. SAAF Gripens are not operational. Again: 5 Gripens and 6 Hawks can't be challenged from Cape Town to Free town. NAF can't deploy outside Nigeria for air combat. |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by MikeCZAR: 8:45am On Mar 26, 2015 |
Henry120:The Gripens are undergoing Operational test and Evaluation. The squadron will not be ramped up to full wartime capacity as funding won't allow that or pilots will get less flying. The pilots SAAF has are enough to deter any enemy wanna be. Not all those 26 planes are gonna be available at any given time, that number makes it possible to continue training, executing missions and if possible deploy. Why does Nigeria have 12 F-7s: How many can you deploy? How many will be left for training? How many will be available for deployment? How many will be left at home for deterrence? Would new crews get training, as the remaining air frames will be used to prepare air crews going to replace the deployed guys? |

Henry120:The SANDF is not a rebel air force like most. It is supported by one of the best defence industries in the world. One of the things that the industry provides is scientific understanding of new equipment thus helping the SANDF integrate that system into its doctrine or come up with a new doctrine for the latest generation system. Examples: 1. How to deploy air defence guns with CRAM capabilities in public places to defend things like events, parliament etc Understanding the fall and trajectory of the CRAM shells, enabling deployment and usage in public place without endangering civilians. 2. Usage of the latest generation bodylift missiles and HMD(s), providing the SANDF with scientific understanding about the performance of the systems. When and how to use the HMD & missile's over the shoulder or look and shoot capabilities with endangering your wingman. This helps SA know how to use, integrate and draw up if needed doctrine for new systems, unlike some who even call PMC(s) to train them from operating to operational usage of vehicles. VEHICLES! Not how to operate buy how to fight. 1 Like |

EVarn: Let me break it down where I had Issues with your post; EVarn: This is a Lie because France's help came towards the end of the conflict when Kwashiokor has secured Victory for Nigeria, however, I agree completely on the crushing Biafra part, I would love to read a History I was indirectly part of in blue tales of undiluted reality. Dont forget that Colonel Odumegwu Ogukwu, the then leader of the Peoples Army of Biafra was a trained Nigerian Army general, and prior to his declared sucession,he was also governor of eastern nigeria under the supreme military council. He had manpower numbering over 30,000 before the war,and 100,000 during the climax of battle.he had a large cache of the nigerian armoury in his control.Yet,we won the war,and the rest is history. This is another lie, Ojukwu never attained the rank of a General in the Nigerian army, the best he got was a colonel, if Ojukwu raised upto 30,000 men, he wouldn't have resorted to kidnapping to make up for his fighters, why do you think Niger deltans like Isaac Adaka boro was vehemently against Ojukwu's revolution? To believe you pushed the number to 100,000 is most laughable, Nigeria with a population of 170m in 2015 has 138,000 soldiers, if you subtract the Boko haram casualties, that number will significantly drop to 95,000, then in 1967, what is the population of Nigeria to think that Ojukwu's eastern region, 1/4th of the federation by land mass and population will raise that outrageous number? I also found the "LARGE CACHE OF WEAPONS" laughable, when next you meet an Igbo man aged 60 and above, sing this song to his hearing" that was our chanting slogan and morale booster for every war front. "Ojukwu nye anyi egbe, nye anyi mma, na - hausa abatakwala Awka" it means; "Ojukwu give us dane/local gun, give us machete that the Nigerian forces have over run Awka (the present day capital of Anambra state and the seat of improvised weapons for Ojukwu's army and till date, we fondly called it "Egbe Awka" " with that song still playing in my head, how do I ratiocinate your "LARGE CACHE OF ARMS" claims? very laughable indeed!! Nigeria won the war no doubt but if you want to be honest, that victory was not as a result of a superior war strategy, never mind that Biafra was militarily disadvantaged with no organised Navy and a tiny air force, that victory of the Nigeria side is attributed to Awolowo's crude Blockade policy, Kwashiokor killed more Biafrans than the Nigerian bullet, if you dont know that much, then I will excuse your ignorance. |

MikeCZAR: I can almost see the tears roll down your cheeks. Still doesn't explain why the SANDF only has 9 Pilots for 26 planes after 16 years. Errr........ the problem with the bolded part of your statement is, the SANDF had to contract Cuban mercenaries to fix trucks you've always had in service. This is the skill deficiency your defence minister was alluding to. 3 Likes |
