Hi NLers,

There's a feeling of satisfaction when as an employee who has just gotten a better employment offer, with Better Pay, Better working conditions.. present your resignation letter to your ex-managers.
Especially as a dedicated staff who has taken a lot of bullshyt from Bosses lol. The look on the faces of these Managers could be rewarding at that point.
This Happened to a colleague .. He was called in for a secret meeting. The management promised to give him a new car, send him for trainings abroad, increase his salary by 75percent if he withdraws his letter. Funny thing was that they strongly advised him not to disclose to any other member of staff. No documentation, No signed agreement.
As a wise person who has seen the Near and Far of the organisation in just 3 years, he humbly rejected their bogus promises and moved on.

A friend of mine recently resigned from a major investment manager in Paris and accepted an offer from a US hedge fund company. His exit was a noticeable loss to his department. He was good. His boss wanted him to stay back, but his mind was already elsewhere...And this was after they had gotten him the much coveted permit to work in France.

If you're a valuable employee and a firm got you cheaply, they would begin to beg you to stay when you resign because they know that they may spend several times more replacing you. But the question is, before tendering resignation, were their eyes closed to the fact that you're a valuable employee?

I do not encourage people to accept counter offers. I personally do not accept it. If a firm could but didn't compensate a talented employee according to market rate, the firm doesn't deserve the employee. Your friend did the right thing IMHO.

it really depends on marketing value. there are 2 types of salaries, underpaid and overpaid. If you are underpaid, then boss will be not happy to leave you, because he know you are underpaid. if overpaid, you will certainly not leave.

Right, until they try to push out the person

Folks dont know the value of what they have until they lose it. As a boss/manager why wait for a dedicated and valuable employee to threaten to live before you upgrade their pay or other allowances. Pls people should learn to reward hard work.

Lool, we don't live in an ideal world. I know someone, a nairalander, who was earning 240K/month and delivering high quality work at his former place of employment. The people in the same industry who deliver the same quality of work earn about 3-4 times better, yet the firm thought this person was a fool until he tendered his resignation...Eye clear come clear.

The replacement for this person demanded around 70% more, and they are even lucky to get that replacement for that price..

I resigned yesterday.. *smiles* I was with my boss doing a couple of international business deal documentation and files transfer up to the late hours of Yesterday.

When we wre done, I handed over my letter to his suppt.pharmacist.

He openly told me He wished he could beat my New offer. "I wish I could Keep you, you are the type of staff every organisation would love to keep". These words made me happy. Lol. The redness of His eyes too made me pity him.. Buh hey I had already signed for another coy.. I have to go boss. *smiles

You should thank him for those words, especially if he didn't cheat you and he paid you based on his company's capacity..Those are confidence giving words.

I don't blame them. He believed he could say anything because graduates many...It's their threat to make people slave for them, forgetting that some people have got choices.

I have noticed that the more choices your employer perceives you have, the higher their respect for you..

When I dropped my resignation letter at my last job, my boss wasn't angry, just said he was happy I was moving higher in my career. The pay was terrible but he was a great boss, actually the best I've had. I felt bad resigning but I just couldn't cope with the salary and working conditions( which changed over time from what was agreed on initially)

That was a great boss indeed..He paid what he could afford, not maximizing bottom line on your head.

Woke up that bright morning, rushed to the office and quietly typed my resignation letter.....waiting to get alert for salary payment before i drop my letter. Trust me if i had submitted my letter before that day,i wonder how on earth i will be paid my last salary.
My boss will do everything to punish you for leaving the company,at least i learnt a lesson from the guys that left before me.
When i gave him the letter,he said OK with one mean and unfriendly expression,..hope you have dropped the company's laptop and properties in your custody.
For me i wasn't expecting anything different,at least i went with my money grin grin grin grin
So happy i left.

She shock grin
At first she was surprised cos it came out all of a sudden....then she said she was happy for me and that she wanted me to "fly" and go places, that the bank was not a great place for someone like me, not a good career path.

In my second office, my boss eye turn red and his voice broke. It was embarrassing

In my case. My boss begged me to stay because of my experience. She went as far as giving me a promotion but I just wanted a new experience and something better.

OMG!

I resigned yesterday... He was really shocked as he never saw it coming. He has been a good boss and I appreciate all his mentorship but there are offers one can't just reject.

I was treated fairly even though I was the only Igbo in a Yoruba corporate community. I was a valuable asset; so were others. I'll miss them. I've had to reject more than 5 offers from different firms over the past five months.

But the fear of the unknown is still haunting me. The "What Ifs" of the new world. I'll be resuming in my new office next week and I hope to make a positive difference which has always been my aim.

Today is my LAST day here and I'm still in the office (two hours after COB) trying to put the house in order. The shock couldn't even allow my boss to come say "Goodbye" to me (didn't come to work). sad

wow!!! This comes in handy, I resigned on Tuesday and to my surprise two other jnr staffs followed suit saying if I'm gone then they can't stay cos to them I was their backbone there.

Well I left the company cos have been owed for 3months after working under strenuous condition.

Now the good news is this, just yesterday I decided to take a stroll to ATM to make withdrawal I met a banker friend that complained he missed my contact that their branch need a staff for a new department in their branch that it based on recommendation so I just rushed back home and hand him a copy of my cv.

Today have been called for an interview and the head of operations said I might start training next week.
